You really don't have to lie to do big things. Hell, look at cosplayers like SugarxSpice. Those girls make their own costumes extraordinary and have received a well deserved good reputation for it. I'd personally rather have a good reputation for my own work than look good and be caught with my pants down about it later.
To be honest with you, she's a model. Ok. If she didn't make her costumes and admitted it wouldn't make me loose respect for her. But, it's the opposite. Respect is earned, not given.
