TOUHOU! teach me how to play plz?

ok the 'teach me how to play' was abit confusing, as the game is an arcade style top down shooter. :D

what i mean is teach me how to play it well, i read in some sites that there are certain tricks?? i dont get it, really i dont.

i currently am playing T6-T8. the top down arcade style shooters (yeah, i dont really know what the genre is called)

Curtain Fire Shooter, that is the name for games like Touhou.
Curtain fire can also be translated at Hell Bullet.

The tricks are mostly game based.. we just learn the different ways spell cards work and how to avoid them.. it's mostly a try/fail kind of thing..

Watching the video's of people playing can help you learn some of the tricks to defeating some spell cards

- Hold down shoot like no tomorrow
- When you know you are going to get hit, press the spell button
- Eat a banana

You can't play Touhou. Touhou plays You.

-Most of the time, just keep steady until one ball gets near you, than move just a little bit while focused.
-Try learning the timing to successfully keep switching between focus > unfocus rapidly, without going suicide or losing control of the girl.
-Die a lot.
-Seriously, die a lot and you will eventually learn the enemy's shooting pattern and might die less.
-If you are having a hard time with the bosses, install shoot the bullet (9.5) and let it play you.
-Play on easy?

Hold shift for focused movement.
Watch replays.
Play at hard or lunatic and notice how easy the other difficulties are.
Move slowly when dodging.
Bomb as soon as the bullet hits you.
Watch other people's replays.

If you fail of these, you might as well as try some of Cave's shmups. Or Cho Aniki, lol

I dont see how you can do the death bomb thing, whats the window timeframe to do it? 1.2secs? less?

and its really hard to see the collision box with the sprite and graze thing and all, how small is it? like 6pixels?

so far i can go for 4levels on hard

Well when I started playing Touhou it was like this

Actually, the formula is much more simple than that.
Just hold the shoot button and dodge until either you or other stuff dies.

use 22" monitor + fullscreen mode :kakashi:, maybe your eyes can't catch those bullet if it too small :D

Also note that Easy Mode is actually harder than what You might expect and most of all...

Touhou's shooting game forcus on position and the mode(slow motion mode and normal mode). Remember the pattern on each stage. Easy mode is very easy. Thanks for more spell cards... You don't need to remember much pattern in game too.
