So it seems there are alot of mixed feelings about Square - Enix. Yeah its true that Enix never made anything decent. Just half-assed RPGs and other crap. And then you have the fact that people are tired of hearing about the FF series in general. I dunno. I've always been true to Square and the series. Even though things started to suck beggining with FFVIII. The idea of FFXI brought some new light into the MMO world but it was soon diminished by WoW and others. Not sure what they're gonna do about current FFXI subscribers. I think its gonna be worth a try at the very least. Some are saying that there will be no monthly fees. Hard to believe. But then again that can easily be done if they plan on doing alot of online item buying. So in other words they make money...REAL LIFE money from all the extras. Anyone else got any input on this?

My only input to this is I don't believe Enix sucked......at all. I enjoyed Star Ocean and Star Ocean 2. I enjoyed all Dragon Warriors up to DW7, which was the best one..... and Valkyrie Profile is a pretty interesting game. In all honestly, I think Enix was better than Square in the days. That is my personal take.

As hard as it is, I'll reserve judgement on this upcoming title for now. Though for the record, I've long been a Squaresoft fan back before the Square Enix merger.

Fan to both Square and Enix, little bit on the Enix side prior to the merge, mostly because of Valkyrie Profile and SO 2, those are simply the best RPGs in the PS era, IMO.
But then came Kingdom Hearts and FFX and I simply forgot that Enix even existed...
Not hyped at all for XIV though, not that much into MMORPGs, but looking extremely forward to versus XIII, Tetsuya Nomura is a God for me! =)

As a 3-year player of FFXI, I have many mixed feelings about FFXIV. It looks nice and all, and could possibly be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me getting a PS3, it would be one of the 3 games I would play on PS3.

My hang up involves starting fresh on ANOTHER mmo, having recently started WoW, and still playing FFXI and Guild Wars. Another hang up is the non-existant character transfer from FFXI... I understand the different world, different races (even tho they made the races look the same as XI, just calling them different names) and the fact that it would be a bit of an unfair advantage to start at lvl 75.

But It still stems from the averseness to starting over in a similar game to XI. I've put 3 years into my character, I love my character and dont want to see her disappear until the XI servers are finally shut down.

I will without a doubt be trying the beta, and will reserve my decision until I have put some time into it, but part of me kinda hopes it ends up like EQ2, decent but everyone prefers EQ.

I think the biggest thing hampering any progress in XI is the fact it remains, to this day, built around the PS2 since it came out 7 years ago. Honestly, I think if they did a full census, they would find that the MINORITY of players are on the PS2 today, not like when it first came out and they were the majority.

If they could re-vamp the graphics engine and tweak it for the current-gen consoles/PCs, I feel it would breathe new life into it, since I LOVE the whole system of the game itself.

Anyway, long post over, my two cents.

Enix's Quintet stuff smokes half the shit Square ever released, and the Actraiser games were great. They've made plenty of great games.

I couldn't really care less about this game though, MMORPGs are pretty mind numbing in general, but given Square's recent track record, I can't imagine this being very good.

I just hope they improve the overall gameplay and make it more interactive and fun.....I never really liked the gameplay for the FFX1

Square>Enix because at least they published AND developed their games.

I can't agree that Enix was a bad developer, in spite of loathing their main Dragon Quest/Warrior series. But that's completely beside the point, since, despite the companies merging, one doesn't meddle with the other's affairs.

At any rate, I'm not interested on another FF MMO, at least not right now.

Well. Enix did have Actraiser. Damn...almost forgot about that one. And the Dragon Warrior series was great. But I think they were both better off as separate companies. They each brought something different. Now its just a big mix up. I am also, like many, playing WoW. But the thing with the Final Fantasy series as much as they have kinda gone downhill, I'm still always interested in what they're doing next. I guess I was a little biased just for the fact that FFII through VII took up alot of my life. lol In any case, I'm going to give it a shot next year. By then I would have grinded out a few 80's on WoW. SO I should be bored with it by then.

But that's the common mistake people often do. Even though they joined, they still work on their games separately. ;)

I'm going to probably play it, since I know ff xiv will be somehow like ff xi which is one of the game which is the less "Noob Friendly" possible.

Videos games today are always easier and easier to help casual and open public to the game to increase profits.

Noob friendly games like "World of Warcraft" for example to quote only one, it's so easy that you need 3 button to play it, the bosses in Pve are a joke (wut wtf boss killed 2 weeks after the release of the patch????) , and game tends to be easier and easier so easy that even a child of 4-5 y/o would be able to play it ...( and don't tell me I'm wrong, like raid dungeon access simplified, quests simplified, boss/raid dungeon/ mobs nerfed , you can solo 90% of the game, etc....).

For FFxi , the game was really far difficult than a normal mmo. Like money was hard to get, Xp was difficult as well, Grey MOB CAN EVEN KILL YOU and normal/ hard mob can aggro you from very far and hunt you down for 30min if needed . The content in Pve has never been updated a lot, even a boss in ffxi has almost never been killed since the creation of ffxi , and the quests are long and hard ...

There is a lot more example but It's not the subject here. For people who say that ffxiv is going to fail, well it will not fail for people who like to have a decent challenge. I hope it will be as hard as ff xi with all the improvement they did on ffxi. For the moment, lets wait and see since it has been only announced but I wonder when we will get a release date or new info for it.

Yeah...then why do people call them developers or say, that they made or create something? It's like giving all the credit to Enix and not admitting the developers of these games.

It would be nice to be able to use a controller for the PC version. I've been using WoW360 for Warcraft. Makes PvP a little easier. Makes you feel like you're playing Halo as far as character control.

On my case was an honest mistake, but that much is right. However, even as a publisher, they deserve credits for being the ones resposible for funding many important games to date, such as the Tri-Ace hits.

Yeah, I completely agree on that. It just bothered me, that there are so(or at least too) many people in this thread who said that these games are "Enix-games" and they didn't even mention the developer.

/edit: Damn post-symbol. It seems like I missclicked it.

Anyone got any info on character classes and races as of yet?

Kirarakun

From what I saw from the concept art that was released, probably the same races that were in FFXI like Humes, Mithra, Galka, Elvaan, and Tarutaru.

See, this is what I hope they don't do. WoW is a good game in its own right, but I don't want to see it leaking into my other MMOs.

I have played FFXI on and off since launch, and I was fairly hardcore into it for a while. I played WoW for a few years as well, and it was fun, but I kept going back to FFXI.

I understand WoW is the god tier of MMOs at the moment, but I hope SE has enough brains to stick to what their target audience wants. FFXI-2, not another WoW clone.

actually the battle system is unlike wow, in fact i dont think we've seen this kind of battle system in an mmo, where you basically queue your moves in the beginning of the battle or something like that
left and right hand deals different attacks
and the 5 races are basically the same ff11 races but with different names and slight difference
the 4 basic jobs are the disciples of hand, land, war and magic; they're basically the crafters, gatherers, warriors and wizards in that respective order
we've been told that you can reach end game status without ever going into battle, you can just be a gather and crafter all the way, and your job status is defined by the weapons you wear, if you see that your party has too many warriors, you can just change into a wizard right there and make a more balanced party for example

It's something like that.

What I've read in the latest review, it's got like, an active time gauge, like earlier Final Fantasies, and after every attack (there is no auto attack) the gauge fills up and then you can select a weak or strong attack (or other skills, I'm assuming) which adds more of an interactive feel to the combat, rather than starting an auto attack, sometimes hitting alt-1, then hitting alt-2, etc.
