Gather all MtG players of hongfire and let us have a roll call.
What is your favourite card? Are you a fan of the Kamigawa set? What colour do you play most often? What is the most unique combo you've used in a game?
Personally, I'm a swampdweller and I also really like green.
My favourite card is the Questing Pheldagrif, just because it made me so happy when I got it. I also really like abusing the ability of the Power Conduit.
I currently have a Power Conduit/Fangren Firstborn deck. I realized that Rite of Passage and Caltrops make fangren firstborn ability. That with fungusaur and fangren firstborn, I get triple the fangren firstborn ability everytime I attack on the Fungusaur. It's not the most successful of decks, but it sure is fun to play. :p

I used to play. Quit since I have other interests like anime! I seemed to be spending to much on MtG cards also.

I used to play. Got plenty of cards, even some Kamigawa ones...I like collecting them better than playing though, and at the moment I don't have the time or money for either...
My favorite card is 'Elves of Deep Shadow' . No reason.

I used toplay MtG.. but I've stopped for a while.
Well the last time I played with an enchantment deck with cards like Yavimaya Enchantress, Argothian Enchantress, Ancestral Mask, and Rancor from the Urza block and Mercadian Masque. It's a White Green deck =D
I like the card called Serra's Sanctum.

I used to play it too but stopped when urza saga came out... Felt that the cards are getting overpowered. I really love my beta cards <3
stopped playing a while ago....too expensive, more & more kiddies playing and wanting to say "wOOt I pWnd U old man..."
In brief, not much interest and I wouldn't have the the time to play anymore

Tried it once. It never did appeal to me, though.
My friend is another case. He even goes into tournaments to play.
Me and a friend play all the time, got a modified Elven rage deck which i play with (Wellwisher, timberwatch elf and elven channeler :D). I really don't like the new cards, they seem overpowered compared to the older cards.

hmm its been years since i played...i started like 97 and stopped when the urza's series came out...it got to the point where tournaments were pointless because all the younger people build the same kind of deck((burn decks)) against my gain life deck((where i cant die literally with the worship/and that card that all enchanments cant be destroyed))...
by the way anyone want to buy my cards? o_O

started right after revised (ice age), stopped after fifth edition came out...I suddenly became poor :p (needed money to study and stuff)
fav cards: Yavimaya ants (there nice and evil :p) in evil green rush-decks that are probably totally outdated, lighting bolt and giant growth (gotta love the clasics), arcane denial :D, ankh of mishra in the evil, evil land-destruction-lock-deck of my brother, orcisch artillery (to annoy :D), dual lands :D
edit: I don't have the slightest idea of what cards all you people are talking about :p, I must be getting old :p

I don't play any more, but I collect them from time to time. I stopped after the Odyssey Block, but I think I'm trying to collect cards to play T1, later in the future. ~_~

It is true, all the newbies these days have been building the same decks. Ravager Affinity is boring! It used to be magic players would build decks with cards they had, not go out specifically to go find 4 of a specific card. They also always just look at what is winning in the tournaments and try to re-create that with and call it their own deck. I like coming up with weird combos so I keep collecting the cardboard crack. I'm lucky I have a few recreational players around the neighbourhood that get together at a comic shop to play.

Close to where i live (well, not exactly close, it's 600 km away) we have a store that specialises on selling Warhammer, mtg and pokemon cards. Some friends of mine make entire shopping lists, travel there, buy the cards they need (spends about 200$), make combos and decks, travel home and gets owned by my 2 years old modified Elven rage (nicknamed F****** cheatpack by my friends) deck:D. They seriously hate timberwatch elf (target gets +1/+1 for each elf in play) wellwisher (you gain one life for each elf in play) and wirewood channeler (adds one mana of any colour for each elf in play). My favourite card must be the Blanchwood armor, it's an enchant creature and gives it +1/+1 for each forest you control.

Cards really did get more powerfull since the old days... :(. Then again, evil lock decks still kick ass :D.

Elven tribal decks are just pure evil. They just get started so quickly and pound you down. One of my friends has a similar deck and it too is scary ass shit. All tribal decks are evil though. Soldiers, Snakes, Clerics, Zombies, Goblins... it's just an obvious thing to do. We have gotten so sick of being 0wned by these kinds of decks that we now have two different categories of playing within our little group that we rarely take them out to play anymore. That gives people chances to try their strange combos that they come up with. We generally just take the cards we have and see what we can do with them. We don't specifically go out to buy cards usually. One of my ridiculous decks is a creatureless, sapproling-generating, artifact-heavy, deck out deck. Spending money to seek out specific cards takes the fun out of building a unique deck I find. I always value originality in my opponents' decks.

I never bought specific cards for that deck, i bought the original Elven rage deck and tossed in a few cards which i didn't use in any other decks. At the most i have two of each card in the deck. Combos are one of the things that ruin the game, a friend of mine has an neverending combo that allows him to gain one mana and "ping" me for one life as long and as may times as he likes.

Hehe =D I once played with someone who used Worship. I had a Yavimaya Echantress in play but I've lost all of my Seal of Cleansing while his creatures weren't strong enough to get through my enchantress.. I lost the game because I had no more cards to draw from my library :)

Has anyone seen the new... well relatively new, Unhinged cards? They are so awesome. I got a Mox Lotus in one of those boosters, it produces an infinite amount of mana. Crazy!
I like building decks, playing them for awhile, and then dismantling them to build other decks. Infinite combos aren't allowed in our games which is good, cuz going against them really is a painful frustration.

I have spent most of my magic career building my elf deck. I have it fine tuned as to where I can have almost all my elves in game by the fourth turn, but with all the new expansions, my plans never seem to work correctly. I can't defend against all them new fangled super cards, so I guess I got kinda bored. I still like collecting them though, nothing better than getting a good rare in a booster pack. Speaking of which, I really like the samurai cards from the Kamigawa expansion, and I'm sorta working on making a good deck out of them....
I haven't seen unhinged, all I remember are the unglued cards from a couple of years back. My favorite unglued card was either the 'Elvish Impersonator' or the 'Ultimate Nightmare of Wizards of the Coast Customer Service'. Fun stuff.

It's been so long :)
I stopped playing when I started college, although I never played seriously anyway. I did play with a friend who competed in local tournaments and a few Qualifiers, but I used lots of proxies because I don't have the money to get all the latest cards. And once college started, I'm even less inclined to spend money on it (especially since no one I know plays it anyway).
Favorite card: Ball Lightning (yah, I was a big fan of the Sligh deck; aggressive play all the way).

Have you ever do draft? What my friend and I used to do is take some of our REALLY old cards and just randomly organized them into 15 card "packs" then do a draft with those packs. It's pretty fun because you get to use old cards, and you almost never come up with the same decks twice. Plus I have always thought that drafting is a true measurement of your skills because you can't pre-build a deck, and how good your deck is rarely depends on how many super-powered rares you have (in fact, some times some supposedly super-powered rares are crap in the wrong deck). How good your deck totally depends on how well you've done your draft as well as how good your deck building skill is. Sometimes some people do get lucky and put together an absolute monster of a deck, but most of the time the decks are all pretty even. You can do sealed deck too, although that depends more on luck than drafting.
I did well once with a deck consisting of nothing but commons and a few uncommons, but no rares. It was a zombie deck mixed with some red cards for extra creatures and some burn. All my creatures are weenies (the biggest one was only like 4/4), but they all got some kind of evasion or first striking and I got some cheap creature boosting enchantments. I was pretty proud of it too :D
Note for if you don't know how a draft works: You have a group of players and you each have 3 boosters. Then you each open up one pack. You take a card from the pack and pass your pack to the person next to you, then take a card from the pack passed to you and keep it moving until all 15 cards are gone. Then you repeat with the other packs. At the end you have a time limit to build a card deck of minimum size 40 from your cards and some lands, which are available to everyone and you can take as many as you want and as many kinds as you want. Then you play each other with you decks. There are other draft "formats" too, but this is the one we used to play.
Sealed deck is a format where everyone gets a 60-card starter and 2 boosters. You can supplement your packs with 5 additional lands of any type, but otherwise you must build a 40-card deck from only the cards from your starter and boosters.

Yay, a magic thread.
Hmm, so many quitters, so few people who still play it.
I play magic too, I have been since Tempest. I've been out of it during the Odyssey block, but I've been playing again for about 2 years. (all of you who quit, start again, it's still fun!:D) At first I started with white weenie (which was actually good at that time), but when I opened 3 titania's chosen at an Urza's Saga prerelease I was completely into elves. I made a crazy elf deck which could win in turn 3 or 4...... and so it became boring. After that I tried a lot of decks and one of my latest concoctions is my pride and joy now. It's a black and white deck filled with creature destruction and the allmighty "Phage the Untouchable", lady death herself. If she so much as touches an enemy, that person is sure to perish. Ofcourse you don't want to 'play' her the wrong way, cause if you do she'll kill you off just as easily. The deck is fun to play and it can actually win.:D For some reason I still have a white weenie and an elf deck, I don't really play with them anymore but it's still fun to have them.
My favorite card it "the Abyss", gotta love that card if you have it, if you play against it you'll probably hate it, I mean, who WOULD like to sac. a creature every turn?
I actually don't really like the new set Champions of Kamigawa, the idea is nice with Japanese mythology and all, but the cards are just a bit too wacky. Well, I'll just hope that the Betrayers of Kamigawa set is better.

Used to play up till abt the Mirrodin block. Even had a Black Lotus.
Fav card? Reya Dawnbringer.
When I quit, I think graveyard decks with ashen ghoul/nether shadow, and survival of the fittest combo decks were the rage..... it all seems so long ago.
Haven't played since Tempest and Stonghold. It was fun until you had to keep pace with the expansions or else you get murdered by shadowing creatures, etc.

I started playing recently. Bought a Kamikawa white deck (it's the best of the premade decks for Kamigawa - I own the 1 on 1 games). Got some good cards for it in boosters (Masako the Humorless - my fav.). But there is not many players that I can play with and I'm still not expierienced enough to play with some older players that hangout around the local "rpg and card games" store. Plus I don't like my white deck that much anymore - sure I win but it's getting boring when all games look the same.
I also played online (with MTGPlay) but it got deleted along with many other things during last hdd crash. Since I don't earn much money I think I will quit normal play and just keep playing online version.
BTW. Does enyone know where can I download full MTGPlay?(with all card packs including Kamigawa and fun decks and all the pictures?) - last time I got it from Suprnova (R.I.P.).

I think I was very lucky, as there were a lot of decks out there that'd probably beat be to a bleeding pulp, luckily I didn't face them.:) (remembers a deck of his friend with about 16 anti-my-deck cards. )

ah yes.....those were the days...... however, there aren't too many of my friends left who play for fun anymore..... I do have a friend (and his brother) who compete constantly in tournaments but playing them with my shitty decks is a lose-lose situation. It's not like i have anything that's worth anything anyways. I was more of a collector than a player (i have most of Urza's Saga 'cept like 3 cards) but I always had the strangest ideas for decks.....like my make-everything-black-then-light of day deck......or my 1-win regenerating drudge skeleton etc. deck..... but i've stopped playing when they started introducing all these new and crappy rules and abilities (double-strike wtf!).

Used to play, stopped after invasion though...just lost interest after a while. I was crazy about MtG and played 10-20 matches every day. I was easily the best player in my area. But one day i just decided to stop. God knows why. Made a small fortune selling off all my cards though.....

It's a great game, though I can't really find anyone to play with nowadays. So I haven't kept up to date with the new releases. I think I stopped around Urza.
I had a counter/phoenix deck, so my favourite card of course is the shard phoenix. Only reason I remember it so well is that I had a great match against a counter/Rainbow Effret deck, won since I could keep returning the phoenix.
I also had a white shadow deck, but it's too cheap to play with it now i guess :P

i only play extend for MTG, the best deck which took me 2 years to build was black lotus-sneak-serra avatar combo... 4 sets in my deck the rest are all artifacts such as masticore... it was fun playing bak then but then the card's price increases so much that i decided to sell them for quite a fortune. Those cards were never that valuable when it first came out though
my favourite card is not becaus eof its ability but its saying... if anyone who plays for sometime should know this quote:
"I am Dark, I am Light, Not even DEATH can free my soul."
guess who that is then... if you read the MTG novel u should be quite familiar with her

My most effective deck was Green/Red full of lightning bolts, incinerates, tinder walls, blood lust, giant growth...basically it was just fast, bring out elves and big creatures, bolt the defense, or when the big creature gets block blood lust the elf that gets through...
I stopped playing magic when Homelands came out, replayed a bit for mirrodin just in a sealed deck fashion with my friends just for nostalgia.

My fav cards were Bird of Paradise (got a whole set), Morphling :D , Masticore, Morphling, Tolarian Academy, Morphling, Force of Will...Oh did I say Morphling? :p

I used to play MTG when is was younger but most of my friends stopped playing it.After reading this thread i might just find my cards and make new decks.I used to have 3 decks that i played with.Best in my opinion was goblin rush deck that had enough firepower too to kill every creature my opponent would put on the game.Second deck used to rely on masses of rebel cards and get life cards.
Mtg started to interest me this past 3 months :)
until now I'm continuing to play it and yeah I too get irritated at that elf deck w/ the wellwisher + timberwatch elf + 4 Predator's strike + 4 monstrous growth . I even remember when 3 sophomores challenged him , 3 on 1 and they were all cooked.
I use white deck w/ mostly easy to cast creatures like suntail hawk

Oh man, just reading the first page it makes me sad to see so many people quit playing XD
Currently I have a mono-green Infi-Squierll deck that revolves around the now UNRESTRICTED earthcraft.
I also have a Green-Red Elf-Burn deck that revolves around the Fireball/Channel/Wellwisher/Stream of life combo. (Who DOSNT like fireballing someone for 500?)
And my last deck revolved around my most favorite combo! Splinter and Landshaper Myr. Change the opponents land into a artifact, and then splinter it!! Voila, no more of that land in the deck, hand, graveyard! =D
As for the kamigawa block, i love it. Its brought some really nice cards, and even Flanking!!! =D
Ive been playing magic since Arabian Nights, or Antiquities, i forget which one.....

Ive played for a few years now. My favorite deck is base around the new zuberas from COK. Get out zuberas and sac to good old phrex alter from invasion. Deck is practically an infinite combo that isnt infinite. It just starts up and keeps going until it kills you. But its not infinite.

Ahh, good old MTG, was a fairly interesting money sink and hobby, started in mirage and stopped at legacy, restarted to dabble a bit in darksteel. Lots of great cards in the past, so its really hard to pick one, especially with stuff like eye for an eye, reprisal, backlash, desert tornado, fling, and the like. Though I have to say one of the best quotes on a card has to be on Catapult Master: "There is no "i" in team, but there's a "we" in weapon." If you take into account what the card did, its a really clever line.

The Hyalopterous Lemure. It's cute and cuddly, and the artist drew it as a glass-winged furry animal (lemur) instead of a glass-winged spirit (lemure). I love defeating my opponents with cute cuddly creatures like it, and 0/1 starfish tokens. There's a certain degree of satisfaction when you do so against their dauntingly huge and threatening looking creatures. Being one of the few girls who play this game, I love cards that are underestimated like I am.
Besides, Hyalopterous is just a really cool word.
I used to play in high school a lot with my friends, stopped with Apocalypse deck, cause as a student I have other money priorgatives than buying cards:p
My favourite deck was a combination of black(swamp) and green(forest) color cards, got a bit slow but powerfull deck of mightest green creatures and deadliest black magic cards.

Ray of Command was such and awesome card, also Force of Will, I always liked blue's aspects of control and permission they bring to the game, but I didn't see a faster way to win games with blue, I remember there was a stasis deck that was just unbelieveably crazy.
The premise was basically set up with necropotence and stasis, your life and and your opponent's life didn't matter as much, you basically set up enough defense and stalling to lock the game with stasis and necropotence and have the opponent draw himself to death. I only played against that deck once, I'm sure my friend copied it from someone.
Hmmm i used to play magic some time ago...
had many good decks...
My favourite was a pure green elf deck...
all the mana generating elfs, cradle give me
lots of mana to summon huge green creatures..
go for the fast kill by summoning 6/6 and above
creatures by the fourth turn and if the game drags
on.. use the huge mana capacity to pump treefolk legend
nemata(i forgot how to spell it) the one that produces sparolings
(also forgot how to spell it)
Pure blue: 200 card deck... lots of counter spell with some tricky
blue creatures... mainly on counter-spell... got lots of cards and creatures
to return cards back to hand...
killer combo... 99% of the time i use this to win...
stasis and capsize... cast stasis... capsize or use creature's ability
to return capsize when the opposing player ends his/her turn...
do watever u want to do but keep enuf mana for at least one counter spell
enuf to return stasis back to your hand... return any untap mana that the
opposing player has put into play...
so as long as u do this... all of your oppenent's mana will be used up and his
creatures remains tapped forever....
since the largest creature in my deck is a 1/4, that's like the only way to win..
Also i keep 4 force of wills in the deck just in case...
well usually even if i can just attack with 1 damage per turn and still win cuz
basically after the stasis combo is out it's game over... i dun do that...
i'll be a bastard and frustrate my oppenents by not attacking them and instead
waiting for the game to end by library death... since my deck is 200 cards long
i wun lose... also i got cards to shuffle my graveyard back to my deck....
Green/blue.. type 2 deck during one period...one of my decks that cost the cheapest...
yet it has defeated decks with prices 15 times it's price...(estimation)...
this deck has no rare cards...
basically it's a discard deck... in this case u like to discard cards to play madness and flash backs...speed is everything... u have to finish off your oponents before the 10th turn.. after that it's gonna be really hard for u to find using this deck...

wow i havent touch or heard about them in like hmmmm wow.....i dont remember and im still surprised they comapny is still makeing cards? last time i check the latest cards were in my deck when i was still playing were....... heheh squirrels! all i can remeber is i like green cards and squirrels ("chatter of the squirrel" i believe and "squirrel mob")!!! sorry no combos here.....dont remember any.
I used to be a big red and black fan, attack and enchancements I believe it was.
But it didn't fit my strategies to well I soon noticed, so I guess green is my favourite.
My strategies are an easy fast build yet medium strong army, up for a fast attack to take out.
Aswell as saving life points and defense.
But sadly, I live in holland, I still have all my cards, but not many other people do.
its been AGES! since I've last played, I miss it.... :(
think I'm even starting to forget the rules and start to rust

are there any limits in cards you may use in a deck?

Do any of you all play tournaments? Or used to play tournaments?
Have you ever won anything? What was the prize card you got?

I dont play much outside prereleases. I dont have the cashflow to make real tournament decks, but im pretty good at making decks and playing so prereleases work great. I went 4-1-0 for my first tourney, 4-0-1 for my second with a draw the last game and a sad 3-2-0 for my last tourney. I got like 12, 16, and nothing respectively. MY second tourney was the sunburst set and I pulled two foil bringers in my prize packs which I thought was pretty neat.

I don't play in any tournaments but me and my friends go at eachother with in big group games. I only use one deck right now which consists of the full set of decrees (annihilation, savegery, Silence, Pain, Justice), Karona False God, A bunch of special slivers, a card combo of Survival of the fittest and Recurring Nightmare, and mana producers such as birds of paradise. My deck seems to be the second strongest out of my friends unless they decide to all attack me at once at the beginning when I don't have enough mana to get anything out. I also want to make a deck that will make the card Leviathon useful in any way (me and someone came up with the idea to just fling and revive it over and over again with recurring nightmare and fling cards).

I'm really disappointed by the new Saviours of Kamigawa set. The whole Kamigawa set was all just so specific. The cards and the mechanics were so specific that you really couldn't play them outside of block constructed. It was disappointing.
I'm just glad 9th edition is going to be out soon. I'm buying 2 boxes.

I used to play. Still have a few cards around.
there was a program that had every magic card in it and you could build your own decks and play against people online for free.
*edit*
I looked it up again and it was called mtgplay but they got sued for copyright :(
I'm not about to fork over a ton of money for the other online magic game.
It would be nice to have all the cards in a single player game. I'd consider buying that.
Too bad it didn't have a single player ver. I had the old pc game for magic which was fun even if the computer did stupid things sometimes.

Hmm no, actually, I've never played MTG, but I used to hang around a whole bunch of people who did, and I actually learned how to play (I think Ive forgotten by now). As for me, there was the one and only STAR WARS CCG!!!!! (NOT TCG). Hmm, maybe I should start a thread about that ^^

I used to play quite a long time ago. And I stopped I think when Urza's Legacy was released. Did I get that right? I'm not sure of the set's name. Any way I used to play a 4 color land destroyer deck. Red black white and blue.
I designed it to be very flexible as most cards included does more than one thing. But most of them destroys lands. It was quite difficult to use though and required careful planning and use of spells... I miss those days...

I am reminded of a fun and common card. The swamp mosquito. It was nice and cheap so you could get it out first or second turn. but those poison counters added up quick if you got a couple of them out and the other player lacked cheap air defence or at the very least make them waste a burn card on them and with black disturbed burial made sure they kept coming back. The black vice and the rack were nasty fun cards too. mmmm I miss magic...

I'm having a pretty hard time tracking down the mtg play and all the cards. anyone know of a good place to look? suprnova used to have it back in the day but most torrent sites I've seen don't have it. I've seen posts for something called magma magic machine but I can't find much about it? anyone have any info on it?

older players should know from my name.
I used to play back in the day. Started with Ice Age and stopped around the set that came after the Urza block. At that time I had a Black Suicide/Hatred deck. I stopped playing cuz my high school started banning card games or something. I thought about getting back in, but things seem weird. Magic used to based on fantasy, but now its everywhere. Ninjas? whats up with that.

Yeah I got out of it just after they brought in slivers and kindle and all sorts of other things that wern't very good. There were some nice cards in the later editions (at least what I saw from mtgplay back when I had it) but at the same time there was a fair share of crazy cards like indestructable type cards. I can remember this one card my friend had (can't remember the set) called light of day which was a pain in the ass with a pure black deck.

Yeah, I play. Used to be competetive, though. but considering it costs so much to keep up with the Type 2 settings, I fell out of it. My best tourney deck was a Grim Reminder Black Control deck, that basically punished you for doing what you do. it was basically built to be the anti-*insert popular overplayed deck here* deck. Ravager, O-Stone, Chrome Mox... basically every metagame card for Type 2 of the time. It was a lot of fun to be able to build my deck specifically to bone my opponent. :D
But my favorite decks are 2 that I built LOOOOOONG ago. Both are 3-colored Green. Meaning: Green is the engine, but it has 2 other colors helping it out. The first is Aluren-Recycle with bounce-creatures (creatures that bounced other creatures back to your hand). The kill card was Firestorm. Basically, you can play these bouncy creatures for free, draw cards because of it, to an infinite degree, then play Firestorm and discard your entire hand dealing 50 damage to everything on the table. Tons of fun. Green-Red with a splash of white. Became a big tourney deck in etended for a while in my area when people saw what it could do... but they usually went green-blue and killed with Brain Freeze (counterspell backup is always nice).
My other favorite deck is called "Look ma, no hand!" (only deck of mine with a title) It works best when I have zero cards in my hand. Ensnaring Bridge, Grafted Skullcap, Null Brooch and Killer Bees for the kill. Secondary kill was Seismic Assault. It's kind of an annoying deck, even though it's really fun to play... so I don't use it much. :P
Another interesting deck I've made is a variation on Elfball (tons of mana-producing elves and fireball for the kill). It uses Song of Blood as the kill card. The deck is 15 lands, 3 Song of Blood, and 42 1 and 2-cost creatures (mostly elves). I can usually have my entire hand on the table by second turn, and by that point, I nibble on your shins until I get my Song... and then WHAM! You get attacked by 20 5/1 and 6/1 creatures. Easily beaten by the right deck, but surprisingly effective against decks with no crowd control.

CORE set came out today!!! YAY!
I got my pre-ordered booster box today and open it all up at the store. It was fantabulous and definitely needed after my crappy day at work. It was made even better since my best friend and I split the box and opened them up together. ^^ He ripped a traumatize out of one of his boosters. I was seriously jealous.

MTG is a waste of money. i stopped couple years ago when they raised the price. once u stop, u ll realize how meaningless it is to exchange cardboard with money. The cards r so expensive, especially there is high chance u ll get something ****ty. Those greedy bastards at wizards. why cant they lower the price. that way more ppl will buy much more and everyone is happy. i draft n seal deck once in a while online with my friends nowadays. i dun c the point of having to own it in real life. However, i still have my collection of good cards like morphlings. the reason i kept them is they might rise in value in 10 years like black lotus. u nv know!

Hmm... I can't believe I've never seen this thread and then someone decides to revive it just for me. Anyways, I don't disagree with faithsoxfan entirely as it's pretty silly to exchange money for cardboard. But if you think about it, don't you do that with just about anything? Money is only paper anyways. :p Plus, you can get boosters for about $3 each if you just buy the boxes. Just like the old days.
So now back to the subject. I've been playing Magic for a hell of a long time; however, I quit for about 3 years and just recently started to buy booster packs because they reprinted a lot of the older good cards in Ninth Edition. For example, we have the Hypnotic Specter (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=NinthEdition&name=hypnotic_specter), Icy Manipulator (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=Mirrodin&name=icy_manipulator), Royal Assassin (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=NinthEdition&name=royal_assassin), Underworld Dreams (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=Legends&name=underworld_dreams), Howling Mine (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=NinthEdition&name=howling_mine), Clone (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=Onslaught&name=clone), etc. I go mono-black as black seems to be the most broken out of all the colours at the moment. Ravnica looks interesting. :D
wow can't believe i missed this thread. i used to play back in 94-97 back when they only sold the original and ice age cards. i still love the game but i'm stuck with rather old cards and the last time i played i got horribly pwned so i figured i'd just retire and keep my cards safely stored. it's a great game nonetheless imo. sorry to disrupt any heated discussion going on, i just can't believe i've never posted having played and loved this game.

I played/collected from early stages of Fallen Empires (just before Ice Age) right up untill the Urza's cycle was ending and the next set (Masque?) was coming out. I still have all my decks, but no body to play with, especially with all my ancient stuff ;P
My favorite decks were a forced creature eater (nettling imps + sengir vampires etc, old players will already understand), Elfaggeddon which was a white/green weenie deck based around mana producing creatures (llanowar elves and birds of paradise) with armaggeddons to hold off your opponents ability to do anything. And lastly, I had a blue lockdown deck. The obligatory counterspells, an enchantment that would let me tap a creature of my own to tap any permanent of an opponent mixed with horseshoe crabs, with a bit of creature control and a few creatures solely for damage output. =)
Despite my deck choices, my favorite colors were Red/Green.

I play on and off... for a reason. If I sit down at my local card place (never knew the exact name for those places) I'll spend lots o $$$$ on cards and spend however many hours arranging and re arranging my deck.
I like to play either fast decks, or build up type decks (like a Goblin deck)... Black/???? decks mainly, not a huge fan of pure black though. I'm horrid when it comes to defense but I have a mean offense.

always loved magic since i learned to play. My favorite color of all time is blue, and my favorite combo is a disable/plinking deck. The combo i would use is renegade wizards with supreme inquisitor to suck out ur best cards; pemminsaura/prodigal sorc for mass plink; crab that let's u untap it for 1 blue mana and a blue enchantment that says:"tap an untapped creature you control: tap target permanent. Thus i can lock down all your lands, suck out all your best cards straight from deck and out of play, then mass plink anything that you can throw out. I also play plenty of counterspells just in case you can get anything dangerous past me.
Sadly, I have lost/traded a good number of those cards and now am concentrated on a boros based deck from the ravnica block. That deck is centered around the beautiful card: SUNFORGER. It let's me play any red or white instant of 4 converted mana or less straight from my deck, so if i'm being attacked by your 9/14 autochthon worm, i can play a devouring light from inside my deck and remove it from play. Also let's me play shocks too :)

I don't play currently, though I still get the cards (Plan is to open a store and to have at least four copies of each card). Kamigawa was okay, but the overall impression I got from it was that it was Wizards trying a little too hard to impress the japanese market.
That isn't to say they *shouldn't* try to, but they haven't made a strictly Chinese set, or a strictly French set, or strictly Italian set, or strictly German set, and I really don't think they will. Still, has some good cards in it and a lot of crunchy flavor.
Favorite old card: Fireball.
Favorite new card: Gruul Warplow.
Favorite card of all time ever: Look At Me, I'm The DCI!
i used to play mtg years ago
with my friends
my deck was black with nice
amount of rats. my favorite card
was 'no mercy'
that's all i can remember
