What's your favourite Anime OST?

Right now i'm really enjoying Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo's soundtracks.

Anything by Yoko Kanno or Yuki Kajiura (that's a little broad, I know). Right now the Noir and Madlax soundtracks have been getting a lot of airtime, and the Arjuna ones are always a favorite...

Bakuretsu Tenshi, Samurai Champloo and Maburaho are my current faves. Noir, Ai Yori Aoshi, Love Hina (incl Character albums), R.O.D. and R.O.D. the TV are some of my all-time faves. Oh yeah, as kikori sez... anything by Yoko Kanno.

Kenshin has probably one of the best OST from my anime collection. I like the way it composed diffrently from modern music. Very Japanese style.

Though it's not really anime, Final Fantasy series have a wide collection when it comes to music. Perhaps those who play this series might know what I'm talking about. But give it a try if you haven't.

The Final Fantasy piano collections are simply excellent . Highly recommended, and if you play the piano, there is sheet music available. They're a lot of fun to play.

Card Captor Sakura and Xenosaga OSTs are my fav currently.
I dunno how to describe music really...but all i can say they're cool~ :rolleyes: Other good ones are like Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Kenshin, Chrono Cross/Trigger
Heck, but my mum keeps on complaining about these game/animetracks lol.

As a rule, I don't like whole soundtracks...usually just a few songs from every soundtrack.

That being said, I love most of the stuff done by Yuki Kajiura (Hack Sign, Noir) and Yoko Kanno (Earth Girl Arjuna, Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne).

I can definetly recommend the Juuni Kokiki (twelve kingdoms) OST.
And the BMG for Angelic layer is simply ... angelic.

Speaking of angels, try Heibane Renmai for a really melancholic listening.
The single Blue Flow is one of my all time favorites.

Yes Gundam seed is the one man..Liked the scene when they played Meteor on chapter Sword from the sky ( forgot the epsiode though) and heart of sword from Samurai X these 2 are currently on my top list.

Actually, the whole Cardcaptor Sakura soundtrack series is the most versatile I've ever heard. It's a tie, I guess. (Incidentally, the Yoko Kanno/Maaya Sakamoto Opening for the third season was not the best of the Opening and Ending songs in the series. Go figure).

FLCL, Cowboy Bebop and the Ghost in the Shell franchise had the best soundtracks. I think that a soundtrack is something makes or breaks a series. When it's good, it can be enough to make me want to watch it again by itself. When it's bad, it weighs down the whole package to the point it's almost impossible to overcome.

The music made by Yoko Kanno and Yuku Kajiura are simply wonderful and if it was a vote of composers they would be in the top. But if I was to pick a single OST it might be either the first one of Noir, the Refrain tracks from Neon Genesis Evangelion or the Pray soundtrack from Final Fantasy.

I love Touch's OST. They are old but pretty catchy and sentimental too.

Madlax O.S.T.2 has a hold of me in ways it shouldn't be allowed to. it'd actually be quicker to list the tracks I'm not amazingly fond of. Those being...Your Place, A Plot, cold, hearts, (all sound too familiar in one way or another), Friday and Cannabinoids. Nothing particularly wrong with the last two, just the general flow and style doesn't grab me as much as oh say every other track. Stuff like 'fall on you', 'saints' and 'if I die' are not only excellent compositions but remind me of some of the sweet emotional scenes in the anime. Emotionally choking over music...I'm still not sure entirely if it's a good thing or not.

I also LOVE the samurai champloo soundtrack. It's great

Aside from that, the soundtracks to most anime don't impress me...

...although Legend of the Galactic Heroes make good use of classical music. :D

Otherwise I listen regularly to the Bubblegum Crisis (OAV) and the Gundam F-91 OSTs: though they are in 2 completely different genres, both are very cool

Naruto has some of the best music with Toshiro Masuda and Little By Little, and FLOW, and mass missle, and Hound Dog, and Sambo Master, and the list goes on... I just enjoy Naruto's OST cuz he fuses it with traditional and rock

Cowboy Bebop - no contest! There is such a varity of music, and much of it works well even without the visuals. Yoko Kanno seems to be able to do magic in any genre of music. It's also good that even though it's an anime called Cowboy Bebop, there isn't a lot of j-pop or country music.

Well let's see.

I got several quite good soundtracks I listen to and I like most of them. (seems logical as I'm listening to them... ;P )

But telling which one is the best... well...let's try to make a top 5, without saying No 1 is better than No 5...

1. Madlax - I just love big parts of the madlax soundtracks, including the singles (which actualy contain a few of the best songs of them all)

2. Same goes for the RoD soundtrack. RoD-TV is somewhat nice, too but not that good.

3. Well, well.. most of the Final Fantasy sountracks are quite good or.. well, let's say up to FF X. I don't like listening to FF XI soundtrack at all, though I even got the cd. Yes, bought... ;)

4. Kannaduki no Miko soundtrack is the newest one that reached my ear and made me enjoy it overall.

5. Last but not least is that Steamboy soundtrack. Speacily "the chase" is just great.


This is just a bit of those which I listen to frequently and I'm looking forward to two OSTs to improve my little collection. As you might guess by the mentioned soundtracks I prefer to listen to classical, or let's say impressing non vocal soundtracks. That's what I love RoD for, that's why I love a lot of FF-songs. Of course there are quite a lot vocal songs I like, just like parts of the Madlax - soundtrack.. it depends.

The last two have something in common: They're composed by the same person (incedentally also worked on Noir, another OST I love).

I think they are good for setting up the mood for GITS.

Yoko Kanno is a genius... and Steven Conte is my most favorite singer. If I had to pick the music from one anime, it would have to be Cowboy Bebop. Apart from the fact that I almost never listened to jazz before that, yet I loved the soundtrack, the music has led me to the revelation that our ( or maybe just my own) taste in music is much more contextual than I previously believed (ie. Associating music you wouldn't normally listen to with something you like and you start to like it). Before I get strung up by Yoko's fans, I am NOT saying the music is bad without the show. The music is brilliant. It's the effect of the music that I'm stressing. It allowed me to see that I shouldn't only listen to the types and genres of music I think are cool ( which is generally what most people think is uncool) but instead that if it sounds good, listen to it (sounds stupidly obvious, but take a look at what you're listening to and ask yourself why you listen to that an dnot something else). I haven't completely gotten over my predjudices but my listening has diversified greatly and I thank Yoko for it.

Music that changes your understanding of music itself is an amazing thing.
(I know what you're thinking...but no, I'm not on drugs, but yes, I'm a little bit crazy)

The most impactful anime OST i've ever heard was Cowboy Bebop. There's a reason why Yoko Kanno is considered the best in her field for the past 20 odd years.

Other than that, Yuki Kajiura does good work too.

Other than those 2 composers, I've found the following good listening:
- Witch Hunter Robin OST
- Kanon/Air OST (good for those moments you want to cry in a corner... no i'm kidding. The BGMs range from upbeat to whimsical to yeah, the emo-songs as I like to call them.)
- Gundam Seed and GSD OST (Considering how much i disliked the anime, I do consider the OST 1 of its redeeming points)
- Mai Hime OST
- Naruto Season 1 OST (popularized the synth rock- classical wind instrument mix)
