I got most of my gantz from crystalnova too...

My thoughts: (warning, spoilers, trash and complains...)

=============Why Gantz is great !=========
1) Very Original story. I can't think of a stereotype story/plot template to put this plot into. Its totally interesting in its own way.

2) It interesting, how , Instead of showing all those Heavenly/saint-like, kind, beautiful people you always see in animes or mangas all the time, this story instead shows us the very ugly side of humanity. All the selfishness and bad attitude.
yeah, these things are somewhat the common reality in a complicated society like japan
(yeah, ok, not all of you will agree on this point.)

Note how in the beginning, almost everyone taken to the room by gantz are really flawed in their personality.
Many are jerks, bastards or outright criminals. And Almost everyone in the room are selfish bastards. Everyone is suspicious of everyone else, and doesn't want to believe.
Of course, that seems to be starting to change with the recent chapters.
Some good kind people are actually appearing in the room.

3) The art work is really good. Clear clean lines and nice shadings. Characters are drawn well. The Cover girls on the first page of every chapter look totally delicious.

===============Why gantz isn't so great==============

1) too many jerks and bastards appearing in the "hunts". The manga wasn't too bad, since i couldn't hear their voices. But in the anime, Those jerks were totally annoying, i felt like fast forwarding everytime one of them said something irritating.
Hate to say this, but the voice artists are really good at sounding like jerks.

2) Too many central characters dying left and right. Maybe its part of the "big picture" in the future. but still i didn't really like it.

3) Just pull the trigger damn it ! What's with the scared expression over and over again, Its already not the first time you've met a alien. They're aliens, just do it !
(well, at least now, kurono isn't scared anymore, and he's kicking alien ass.)

4) Not too much a valid point, but i feel that the manga could be alittle more detailed.
the action was great, but there could be a little more frames during the kick ass scenes.

Recent Comments as i was reading the manga

I wasn't too sad about Kushimoto and Kanto getting killed actually. Yeah, i sort of felt
bad about their deaths for a few chapters after, but totally forgot about them within the next few chapters.
Probably because Kushimoto really isn't suitable for kurono. and Kanto is a old rival of his.

I really really liked Kojima Tae from the first moment i saw her. I thought that it would be the start of a beautiful relationship for kurono, but No0oo, the author had to get her killed.

i'm wondering stupid little things, Like what kanto's brother going to do about his life when his brother is now missing.

Where do the dead bodies of people who got manipulated by gantz go ? Do those people just go Missing in the real world for the rest of eternity ? or do they surface somewhere else in the real world for as a mystery the police will have to solve?

when on a mission, isn't everyone supposed to be on a "different frequency" so that common people couldn't see them ?
So why was there a frequency (during that mission where Tae got killed), that kurono or any of the other people can switch to such that Tae could see them ?

I also wondered, Why hasn't anyone actually tried to kick gantz in the balls yet ?
(Its something i really want to do, Despite the stupid bomb in the head that gantz has planted.)

Overall, gantz is good. Give it a 6-7 for interesting storyline and good art.
Feels like it deserves higher, but lets see how the author continues the story first.
(we can't accurately rate a story until it is complete right ?)

What I like about Gantz is the fact that heroes die. That's life. No one is invincible. I've just gotten tired of superpowerful heroes who are gods. I hate that. There are way too many of them. For example, I hate Ichigo from Bleach. I can't help but hate them

I wasn't particularly for Katou's death because i thought he was the greatest character and i would have rather have seen kuruno die, but i was alright with it. Great People die. It always happens. Everyday. People need to take conscience of that.

And to answer on of you question about Katou's brother: he'll do whatever he needs to. Many more people are in way worse conditions than him in the world and they survive. So he should too. I'm not saying that he is lucky or that he deserved what he got, but i heard the argument about katou's brother too many times. The author isn't cruwl, he just tells you about real life. If you aren't happy with it you can tell god when you die.

Same thing with Tae. Love stories don't end up like little mermaid stories, or aladdin. Tae died. Love can be compromised by things more powerful. Like Death.

Shit happens in life. People are sometimes assholes. And we feel the ones who deserve to live don't live, but that's life, and it is not a reason to give up. I just love how gantz shows you what the world in which you live in is. Enough bullshit about how you must have a dream and about how gifted people are talented and invincible. Most people aren't superheroes. Most people are like Kuruno. Not perfect. With Rivals. Love isn't always reciprocal. Death is a reality. And people die without being able to help the ones who need it. And the ones who accept the rules survive. The strong and/or lucky ones survive.

That's life.

EDIT: The answer to your question about frequencies is in the Manga. There is a frequency for everything. If you are familiar with electromagnetism, then you know that light is only waves of certain frequencies. There exist other frequencies than the colors we can see but our eyes are unable to see them. So Gantz puts you into a frequency that is not familiar to human eyes (that's why the vampires use lenses or sunglasses). And the "invisibility" that was used by some people is in fact just a change of frequency. If they change their frequencies to the ones humans can see, then they become invisible to people in gantz but they can be seen by the human world. Hope this is clear.....hmmm~.~

yeah, agree with what you say about how "shit happens".
But still, its totally heart breaking to see good people die.
(manga's about enjoyment, not heartbreak. *sigh*)

no, the frequency problem is regarding :
Not - how come it can be done ?
But - Why was it allowed to be done ? Wasn't there a sort of unspoken rule that nobody should be able to see them during their missions ?
Imagine what would happen if people saw them doing all those super human things in those suits ?

Yeah i agree that mangas are for enjoyment too ^^ and i must say that gantz is depressing. :( but sometimes drama is enjoyable ;)

And about frequency, it is allowed because you don't have to be seen. If you are careful then you can fool the aliens without being seen by the humans. And if you are seem by the humans you head exploses. So there's really no problem with it. :p

The Cherry sidestory thing was okay, but it seemed like filler to me. I hope the mission begins next chapter, if this turns into a big filler arc its going to make me lose respect for the manga.

I think that the strenght of gantz comes from the fact that everyone can die (I wouldnt be suprised if Kurono suddenly dies, but he's survived so much that he might as well live for a couple of more volumes (and besides, making the readers to accept a new main character at this point is basicly impossible) :)) and no character can last forever. It makes the characters seem much more alive than any "immortal" character would, no matter how dull their character is

IMHO gantz's other major strenght is its character development: you have Kuronos character go through so many changes that you only remember that in the beginning he was a total wimp who cared for no-one but himself and now he's become more than Kato ever was. Of course there is not much room for the other characters to develop as they are mostly killed right of the bat, but that also makes you wonder how long every new character can last and you end up sipping every bit of knowledge about every likable character as you never know when they are going to die.

I have already bored myself to death with the traditional stuff where the evil never prevails for long and the story always ends happily. Gantz satisfies my pessimistic side (that is quiet a large chunck of my personality at the moment :)). And even if you read manga for enjoyment, its just a feeling. Sadness is a feeling just like any other, and If a story is so powerful it almost makes you cry I think it's well written.

1-Revive himself and forget everything
2-Get an extremely powerful weapon
3-Revive a person

I wonder what will he choose?If it were me,I would choose the second choice.When I have that weapon,I can gain more points and revive everyone

I thought I read that you had TWO options: to get the weapon and forget everything OR revive someone in the games memory. Although I might have been speed reading that page and I dont see any logic in getting a weapon and not remembering where you got it :)

No, you get the weapon and stay "dead". So you can use it to gain more points to maybe revive another person or two or as kei said all of them.

That's the only way the weapon option can make any sense

anwer to some questions:

*How come if everyone in the gantz team is in a diferent frecuency Tae could see them perfectly?
Well, Nishi(?), the 90-points guy, had a deveice which allowed him to become invisible but, in fact, it only changes your frecuency; from gantz team to normal -if there are only two frecuencies-. This explains why Nishi wore the suit UNDER his normal clothes, so as to not involve an innocent person(unlikely) and to protect himself, it seem gantz will do anything to ensure he remains in the dark even if it mean blowing someone's head off. However, the targets seem to be able to see in between frecuencies.

*Who are these vampire dudes?
They are Humans with nanomachines on them which for exchange for gantz-suit like abilities (A.K.A superstrenght) eats away their blood, gives them headaches and skin marks. To avoid these side effects, they have to drink blood -apparently only human blood will do-

What happend to the panda and the dog?
After the buddha mission the dog dissapears with his suit on, he might have wander off the 1k sq.area, got killed by someone/something or was seen by someone with his suit on. The panda was found in the streets with his suit on so, it is safe to think that he got its head blown off.

Questions the Manga will have to answer:
1)Why if Izumi like Gantz so much he -when he got 100 points- wanted out? The Vampires know him thus he knew them.
2)Are the Vampires the good guys and the Gantz team the bad guys as Kuruno suspects? That is, the vampires are an organization, Gantz are a group of dead people killing aliens to the rigth and left (whole familes)
3)What will happen when Katou meets Izumi; all of Kuruno's "girlfriends" meet each other?
4)Kuruno can not revive everyone in memory, at what piont will he say "Ok, i've done enough reviving the dead-dead.?
What's with the psychic dudes?
5) if revived, do one becomes a gantz menber or not? Does that person remebers anything that happend?

Perdictions:
-Reika dies
-Kuruno gets 100 points and revives Nishi/Katou (Nishi tells Kuruno all he knows)
-Kuruno gets 100 points and revives Nishi/Katou(katou becomes Kuruno's support)

Yeah, I really like the manga after seeing some of the anime. I do hope the author makes a decent story explanation for the vampires, which just seems like he likes throwing curveballs at readers to keep them on their toes. Yeah, I think that's what Kei would do is bring Katou back so he can have another ally vs. Izumi (what an a**hole psycho) and help him bring back Kishimoto. That's 200 points just on those 2. The psychic sensei never really explained how or why he got his powers (he was an alien as well?). I do sort of like the fact that the author hints at it that the gantz gang might be the "bad" guys and the aliens were just fine being unprovoked (the "good guys"?). I'm hooked though and can't wait for each chapter.

you mean that, how do they got the nanomachines? Well, I think it was the aliens who formed group to defent themself from gantz.The nanomachines makes them strong but eat their blood so they have to get more blood, unfortunally they can just go to the red cross or something, only fresh blood will do.

I think that Kei should bring back Nishi, the "i don't want to die mama" boy, so that he will tell kei everything he knows about gantz. But for some reason I doubt this happens because even he didn't not know about the motorcycle.
Kei is starting to act like Katou, so maybe he will not appear in the near future unless something bad happens in the current mission.

GANTZ is the best manga i ever seen. when i see the anime i like too much until chapter 18 when GONZO destroy the story to do a quickly ending. i hate those bastard for do such a thing.
i see the manga until cap 193 when begin the mision on the mall and i dont want reika dies!
i like gantz because show the deep feeling of the people when pass throug this situations. sort of game of feeling! :) so i like that.
i have a question for everyone:
YOU THINK THAT KATOU'S BROTHER MAY BE PART OF THE GANTZ PARTNERS, WITH KURONO, REIKA AND THE OTHERS?

I hope that make a second season, there are some rumors about it. I espacialy want to see the dino mission.

I think that some how Reika will become as good as Kuruno, I mean, she has already showned that she can defend herself on ch.194
I also get the feelling that this group: Reika, the grandpa, the fighter and the dude with the psychic(?) powers, will make it and get 100 points.
I personally can't wait until the author expands on the concept of Reika being/falling in love with Kuruno, Kuruno getting over Tae'death and growing fond of his idol Reika, and how this will affect Kuruno's day-to-day life and during missions, will Kuruno's popularity in school skyrocket?

If Katou's brother becomes part of gantz he will most likely die.

Kuruno HAS to get over Tae's DEATH. Getting over Tae altogether is another thing, It will be like Kuruno getting over Katou. Kuruno will never forget what happen with Tae but learn from it. Kuruno will get the 100 points alright, but will he revive Tae? or will he opt for Katou, the sniper dude, Lara(Sakura) or ask gantz for advice?

I have the felling that something important is going to happen in this mission, I mean, the mission just started and the vampires are already at the scene.

BTW, we still don't know what happens when someone is revied. It said "revive someone from memory" which technically means right before he/she dies or that last time that person was "saved", it could also mean that gantz will revive that person as a gantz member.

Back to Katou's brother... I do wonder what he has been up to, and who will he react to Katou if he comes back. I just can't wait but shocwaves takes too long in releasing its chapters.

I think maybe that the people who get "revived", like eventually Kishimoto and Katou, would start with the last memories at the start of the buddhas mission because that's the last time they went thru a Gantz teleport ( and their last "save point"). I think the people who get "revived" would be in the Gantz missions and not just returned to an ordinary life because they are already dead to the world, too much explaining would happen if they returned to their normal lives, and they didn't "earn" the points themselves for "revival".
Fighting vampires and those tentacle aliens is a huge ordeal because there are so many of them. The Vampires must know about Gantz and is just targetting the Gantz people as the biggest threat. They don't even care about the other "bad" aliens. The Vampires seem very nasty fighters, if just one of them is killing off a bunch of Gantz people and Kei may have to fight his brother eventually. I guess Gantz must be training all these dead humans to help fend off these occupying aliens. So who made Gantz? Another alien force that's on the "good" side built the Gantz technology and trying to help out the humans from being invaded by these "bad" aliens (...Maybe). Are there more Gantz rooms around the world? Most likely. Where do they "transported" aliens go when they get sent with the "Y-gun" (Katou's favorite gun)? The "transported" aliens get imprisoned/studied by the "good" alien/Gantz builders for intel as the "bad" aliens seem to be "teleported" somewhere. Well, these are just my theory spewings.
If Izuma already had 100 points, why would he want out but he still has his memories of Gantz? Where did he get the extending Katana? Who is the hottest girl in Gantz? Kishimoto is pretty hot but a horny Lara Croft look-alike is kinda tough to turn down (she was with Kei right when they met?!). Reika is no slouch either, when an idol/star wants to be with u that's a good choice too. I think I'd pick Kishimoto just because she's cute, has a huge rack, and isn't too tall, and she's seems like a good person (sucks, her copy is dead).
Is there any RPG ideas on a website somewhere? I was thinking of using Modern D20 or Marvel superheroes but I don't know. I was just wondering if anyone else had done something already and I guess it would be more fun if your friends in the game didn't know anything about Gantz. Whew, that's enough rambling for now.

You got to remeber that Kei himself is wondering it Gantz is the "good" or the "bad" guy.
I think it was in the Buddha missoion where one of the aliens ask "why are you killing us? we never do anything wrong yet you came to kill as all" or something like that, and that he Kei asked himself "are we the bad guys?"

Are you asking if there is a gantz game? there is a ps2 game in japan.

Seriously, the chance of Kurono getting over Tae is almost impossible. The only reason left for kurono to get 100 point is to revive tae, ever since kishimoto and katou's death, kurono have been depressed. Also in manga, kurono even said he will revive tae, not katou and not kishimoto. =X

i dont think that is accurate man i remember reading that he was going to "...revive them all..." it shows a pic of both kishimoto and katou and then i think he says their name

When the allien dude twisted its neck and then transformed in to a guy with 7-8 g-size tits all the while the gantz dude is still in intercourse(?) with it; That is sick!!
Moving on(2-3 pages), We have to give Reika credit for becoming so good, the way she separated the gantz dude from the alien kicked ass.

I am Kind of afraid of the near future of the gantz team, because they are becoming a "good" team, last time they where a "good" team they got all killed but Kuruno.

Reika and Cool Guy figured out he was a fake. Reika shot at the fake Kuronos gun and when it blew up it was blood. They started to whoop its punk ass but then it turned into the little Kid WTF? and put himself into another of the gantzers bodies.

Yeah... what's with the little kid? Does that mean that the county side general is dead since he was protecting the little kid? If not how did the alien new how the little kid looked like?
The fact that the alien can "switch" bodies makes him alot more dangerous because if you don't kill it fast enough it will switch into you.

Anybody else find it sad that way that Reika decided that the Kuruno was a fake? It touched her in the shoulder, show her alittle affection and becuase she knew He wouldn't do that she shoot him.

And again... RUN Reika, RUN!!! It might switch into you

It seems this mission will last forever, with the aliens at one side (how many are they? like a million?? =S ) and the vampires at the other side.

Also seems like many ppl will die, when they star shooting themselves coz of the guy who changes body or just get inside their bodies =S... WTF, if Izumi sees this, i'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind killing everybody around just to prevent the vampire from getting inside anyone ^^

Alright, just got Chapter 201 man this mission is getting crazier.

The alien pops out of that one guy as a huge fly then he gets into the other random Gantz fodder guy and rips his body to pieces since he comes out as an elephant. Then the best part comes when Kurono and Old Boy come along.Kurono slices the aliens head off with the KATANA :eek: take that Izumi.

hi guyz! i'm new here but not new to gantz. gantz rockzz!!! ive been hooked from the very beginning. reflecting on ur gantz discussion i'd like to ask anyones opinion on some matters concerning gantz
1)i'm sure most of u guys seen the latest chpts n read the prev posts concerning the frequency/invisibility thing rite? question is, how come the oni alien could be seen by other ppl? i mean since the first mission it was clear that everything concerning the gantz mission was on a whole different freq. even in the dinohunt mission the ppl couldn't c the dinos (eventhough they were sliced/diced by the dinos). but on this mission the oni could be seen by other ppl. hows that possible?
2)concerning the fake-reika. while she was busy f**king the "cool guy" the ppl around couldnt see/care less until it transformed. can these oni change freq at will?
3)does anyone hv any idea what actually happens once an alien is "sent up" using the sending/capture/y-gun?

Welcome and to answer some of your questions:

1)Im guessing that the oni aliens are on the same frequency as people the only differenc is unlike the normal vampires ,who needed the special sunglasses or contacts, I think they can naturally see people on different frequencies.

2)As far as the the fake reika I go and say that probably all the boss onis can change frequencis since they are all pretty powerful.

3)Your guess is as good as mine.

1) I think that it is safe to say that aliens can change through frequencies, I mean, the statues and dinos where seen by everyone but then they changed frequencies to fight the gants gang but also to surpress public knowledge.
The vampires, were humans first so they need the sunglasses to see through frequencies

2) I gotta read that ch. again, but I don't think that normal people saw them at anytime though

3)We don't know

And now for somequestion of my own, there are only two frequencies rigth? on and off.
in the "on" only people on that frequency such as aliens and other ganzters can see you. in the "off" mode normal people can see you like tea.
this would explain why Nishi wore his gantz suit under normal clothes and why when Tea, by accident, photographed a gantz member and that dude died rigth there.

i think any alien that is "wanted" by GANTZ is given the ability to see the gantzers. this way it'll be more fun (for GANTZ)if the aliens could see their enemy. remember Tae Kojima? she was a weak ass normal human with no powers whatsoever. if the gantzers had to change their frequency just so tae or any other alien could see them is just... well, dumb, right?if they had to do that then the ppl around them will know GANTZ plus they would b putting themselves at a disadvantage.also, Tae couldnt see them during the KNIGHTS mission when she caught the gantzer on film but she could see them all in plain sight when she was targeted by GANTZ. i dont know how but its a good guess. maybe it's a contol element not just to hide the existence of GANTZ but also to categorize the aliens. uptil now the WANTED aliens were of the same type/species (Onion/Bird/statue/dinos/knight). so on each mission, only 1 type of alien can see the gantzers. thats why other aliens dont intrude in the middle of the mission. the vamps are not "aliens" but they know how to intrude into a mission (contacts).

-to eddyg17, i'm sure the statues were unseen n i'm confident the public couldn't c the dinos. take note. were reading a manga by an artist here, the artist showed us the gantz-alien frequency n the normals frequency. he wanted to show that although on different frequencies, both frequencies exist on the same plane. what happens in 1 frequency effects the other. long story short. DiNo Mission - the normals were running around in fear because they could only see explosions n ppl being dismembered without a reason+the cops werent shooting at all since they dont know what to shoot+the newspapers headline said it was a terrorist attack and not "DINOSAURS ATTACKS!!!" or something like that. Statue/ashura Mission- the gantzers had to help a normal when he didnt realized he was about 2 b stepped by the grumpy/rowdy alien.

so far the artist has shown us only 2 frequencies,so its easy to assume theres only "on"/"off", but its possible there r more. radios have more than 1 frequencies right? even the switch was a circular dial for the device. i think the gantzers slowly tunes their frequency so it woudnt b in-sync with the target(invisible). i said tune because everytime they go invisible they slowly fade(phase-out). if it was an on/off switch they wouldnt fade out but just turn invisible the moment they press tha button. its possible that they turn the dial end-to-end to become invisible but there are also frequencies between the 2 ends. think about it

about tae photographing the gantzer and later being targeted by GANTZ, i know it has something to do with the frequencies as well. i'm not in any photography club, but i do know that camera's, especially the old ones hv different shutter speeds(1x,10x,...) to take pictures. since the gantzer was playing with the device he might hv tuned in to the same frequency as Tae's camera thus getting caught on film when Tae just happened to b focusing in his direction. it could also be because of the cameras focusing index. can anyone in the photography club back me up on this theory? if there were only 2 frequencies - "on" only people on that frequency such as aliens and other gantzers can see you. "off" mode normal people can see you, how come the gantzer who got blown up was only seen by tae through her camera n not other ppl? this proves that theres more then 2 frequencies or the "off" mode couldn't be seen by normals so no need to hide the suit. but it contradicts the fact that the ppl in the gantz-alien freq can see the normals so if a gantzer were to change frequencies to the normals freq, he could still b seen. well, maybe it's not the shutter speed but the lense since the vamps also use contact lenses to see the gantzers

this may seem a bit too much, but thats what i think. i think the oni are aliens who exist in the same freq as the normals. thats y the normals could see them. they could see the gantzers because they r targeted by GANTZ. i dont think they could freely change frequencies. but the fake reika-cool guy scene still has me wondering

If I am not mistaken, Tae herself didn't know she had taken the picture of a gantz member, and he exploted when he was in the "on" mode. The aliens just have to be able to change through frequencies because the dinos and statues have to remain perfectly still while they r seen be the general population but they can change frequencies to dissapear and figth the gantzers under secrecy.
Tae couldn't see the gantzers, she got killed by an invisible Izumi (on her perspective).

Now, to get thing more complicated, on the current mission the tentacle aliens seem to be able to see through frecuancies. The general population is seen most of the tentacle aliens figth and being killed by and invisible force (the ganzt team) The ditto (pokemon, anyone?) alien must have changed frecuencies to be able to f*ck the "cool guy" uniterrupted.

If these aliens are able to see through frequencies then the frecuency tunner would serve no purpose when it comes to hunting but, perhaps, to be able to switch and warn by standers about pending danger.

Does anyone have a theory about what the vampires are? They start as human and stay on the human frequency, unlike the aliens which can naturally see the gantz fighters. I think they're a there are two sides, Gantz and the vampires, and the aliens are a bunch of unconnected third parties.

If they wear clothes on top of thier suit like nishi did then they can tell people to get out of the way and in what direction to run, ofcourse the probability of poeple actually listening and doing what they are told is low unless there are explosion and people dying out of the blue.

as long as they dont reveal themself as a gantz member they r ok.

Also, for someone to actually take the time and try to warn people would be difficult because they r in the middle of a battle -I think this is the point u r trying to make-

I think that the vampires r the "good" guys. let me explain.
There is a mission -I think it is the buddha mission- when one of the aliens asked to Kuruno why was he attacking them, that they (the aliens) have never harm anyone and seek peacefull lives.
Kuruno then think and woders if it is that Gantz and thus He himself and the gang the "bad" guys.
Now, that fact that the Vampires and the alieans seem to be working together makes them seem as if they r the "good" guys. The Vampiers are originally human but thank to some very advance technology, maybe alien technology, they are able to gain super strength through the nano machines and they can see the gantz member by means of the sunglasses.

This last few chapter have been a breeze to read -more than usual, that is-
When are they going to switch to Izumi, cherry boy's sensei or Kuruno's group?
And in the last ch.(205) We finaly comfirm our guess: Countyside general + gantz suit = Gogeta SuperSaiyan 4

I'd have to say he's SuperSaiyan 5 with a craving for pain and bruses on him and his oppponents. He's cool but wacked, completely wacked (only when in a fight).

As for the breezing through chapters: NEARLY EVERY chapter is a breeze to read through. They put so much effort into the 3d rendered backgrounds and forget that the readers are only going to look at that cell for 5 secs tops! The same time it took me to read up to vol5 of GTO, i had finished up to ch196 in Gantz.

Gantz is pretty awesome, but I still only gave it an 8. Anyone who gives it a ten hasn't read 20th Century Boys, I think ;) Only problem is I can't find chapter 200, argh! I could skip and grab up to 205 from those Rockstar dudes but don't want to miss anything... Tokyo Tosho has chapter 200 but I get a message it's not on that URL. Ah well, I'm sure it'll turn up somewhere, in the meantime I'll catch up on some other manga I haven't finished yet.

My apologies if people already touched on it (I see there's like a ton of old posts in this thread and haven't worked through them all yet) but early on in Gantz there was a reference to an "Eichmann Test"? I think they mean some psychological experiment I read about, it happened like 30 years ago and wouldn't be considered ethical nowadays but was still very insightful. Basically the researchers placed an ad in a newspaper about test administrators wanted. Those who answered the ad would ask a subject questions over a microphone (generic math questions and the like). If the subject answered incorrectly, the respondents would be told to press a button which would administer a shock to the unseen person taking the test. The more wrong answers, the stronger the shock. Of course it was fake, but the person giving the shock didn't know this. How far would people go, given that they were told it was all legal and acceptable? The majority of people would keep on giving shocks until they "killed" the person taking the test. I guess the guy in Gantz mentioned it (some teacher who was killed right away) because it was all about what it takes to make a person kill someone else...

It's hard to describe, but sort of like a cult thing called "Friend" taking over the world... Pretty scary, jumps back and forth in time a lot. I haven't finished it, not sure if it's all translated yet. I know the title is a reference to a song, but I can't remember if that's the title of the song or just one of the lyrics. For some reason I have "20th Century Boys, making 20th Century noise" running around in my head. Very cool though.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add one thing though. When the shocks started getting stronger, the guy over the speaker taking the test would ask to be let out of the chair he was strapped to. Then he'd start crying, screaming, begging for mercy, and finally go silent equalling death. Spooky stuff.

I've gotten away from Gantz a little bit so I'll try bringing it back. Some people have been saying maybe the aliens or vampires are good and Gantz is bad. Hmm, it pretty much goes without saying that Gantz is bad, but I think about 75 percent of the aliens are also bad. I do think people should try communicating with the aliens more, at least the ones that aren't determined to kill you instantly. If it was me, I'd try and get one of the other people to start a conversation so their head explodes instead of mine, in case it's forbidden :) I really think all the Vampires are bad though, they seem pretty nasty... Maybe the aliens, or some of them anyway, could help if they knew what was going on? I get the feeling something is limiting Gantz's actions too, so there could be other powers out there.

I recently started reading Gantz (almost uptodate) and I enjoy it quite a lot.

The thing that is really interesting about is the way they deal with other characters. Time is spent designing the character and giving them a basic personality and then they're usually killed in the following chapter or two. Its great because I always ask but why where they like that? or what did they do? and stuff, it really frustrates me in a way, but I also kinda like it.

You also pretty much know you'll never find about the characters in future chapters, because once they die then they are pretty much forgotten.

What chapter are you up to? The last one I'm aware of is 206, and although there's nothing obvious about it I'm starting to get a feeling we're heading towards the end. I mean the aliens, or vampires, or whatever (I'm not sure about anything at this point!) are getting so insanely tough that I'm afraid it'll turn into dragonball or something. Of course the manga is way too cool for that, so there'll probably be some kind of resolution. Just an idea, but maybe earth is like a prison for aliens and Gantz is the warden? He could be recruiting dead humans to serve as executioners... Yeah it's disturbing how so many people die but it's also more realistic that way I think. Frankly I wouldn't last very long in that world :(

Hmm, I shouldn't say near, but maybe kind of turning point indicating we're starting to head in that direction? Certainly there's an opportunity to address a lot of issues in the upcoming confrontation anyway. Like, if there's a hierarchy of aliens they're fighting, they did just decapitate a bunch of the "executives" after all :) Not like I want it to end in a hurry or anything, but after 200 plus chapters seems we're due for a least a few answers. Guess we'll find out in due course...

Not like he hasn't killed off practically everyone before :( Ah, remember the good old days when the worst thing they had to fight was a giant hypersonic dinosaur that shot lasers from it's eyes and was completely invulnerable except for one tiny spot? I think he always has to leave one character alive at least. They better have whoever lives get 100 points though! Be interesting if Kurono dies and gets brought back. Out of all the people who've been killed off so far, I think the soldier guy who died on his first mission against that freaky Shiva thing would be the most useful to bring back. If he had only lasted long enough to get some more familiarity with things, he could have been a critical ally. Still could be...

If I was him, I would bring back Katou.

He is not only strong, a good figther and a team pleayer but He would also serve as a guinea pig. Bringing back a person "from memory" means as in before he/she was killed -with memories of its death and stuff-, but it does not especify it the person brought back would be brougth back as a gantz-er or a civilian. As I fan of the manga I would like to see Izumi and Katou face to face and how would they react to one another.

After Katou, if the person brougth back is borugth back as a gantz-er, I would choose -in order- the sniper dude, Sakura(Lara's look alike) and then Muscle Rider or Rieka in the event that they die.

AHHH!!... forget it!! after "reading" 206 it is clear that Kuruno will use his 100 pts. to bring back Tae no matter what.

Since in the latest chapter they stopped the timer, that might indicate something weird is going on... Maybe they won't bother with points at all in this mission? Or maybe he'll get enough to bring back more than one person? It's easy to be impatient about what'll happen next, guess I just have to be glad I'm getting it at all :)

Probably the only reason for him to not bring back Tae would be that it's too dangerous right now and he wants to figure out some things first. I wonder if he could get 100 points and wait a while? But then he's taking the chance he'll die before using the points and everything going to waste...

Yeah, that's the critical question isn't it? It seems like the vampire / alien distinction is breaking down... This is a hard manga to figure out at the best of times, but I'm also reading a bunch of other stuff inbetween chapters and that makes me even more confused. Anyway have a bad feeling this could be a repeat of the temple fight, only 1 person surviving.

... Imagine that some how the kid makes it trough many more mission adding into months and then even years!! He could become a Gantz hunter expert or something -If he were to live long enough and not wanting out-

Let's see... I know one of the psychic guys died fighting the flame boss. Umm, didn't both of them die? Seems like they'd be absolutely essential since their abilities let them bypass conventional defenses... But if there's one of them out there, could there be others? And I still wonder if there's a Gantz in other cities as well, but I think so far there hasn't been any indication. After all that's happened, you'd think Tokyo would just be evacuated because of the danger to the public. And I seem to remember a bit with Kurono's brother being a vampire, so you'd think they'd have to be humans and not aliens. Maybe none of the things they've been fighting were aliens, and Gantz was lying all along.

There is definitely a lot to be answered. And Karis Fra Mauro says, Gantz maybe (and probably) was lying all along...but even this wouldn't explain everything because if everyone was normal, then the people on the streets wouldn't be so weak and surprised.
I can't wait for the next issue....I NEED to know why the Gantz Timer suddenly went BLANK !!!!! WTH !!! This sure sounds like the last mission, but I still feel so lost...

Im pretty sure there are gantz in other cities or atleast another group that we havent meet yet because the job of the vampires is to pretty much kill the hunters if so what have they been doing until now? the Vampires seen to be part of a larger network of anti-hunters association, I mean, they can conntact deamons for help.

Yeah, there is a distinctly international feel to the vampires being part of something larger... That would indicate Gantz in other locations. But, what if rather than being on other cities it's other planets? Like one Gantz per planet, and the vampires are not limited to earth? I speculate that the teleportation weapon sent aliens to another planet, too bad it's so hard to use though. It would be kind of lame if this were the last mission, but I could imagine it being the case. The poor guy writing Gantz might just throw up his hands in frustration at all the unanswered questions he's raised and want to end it after 200 plus chapters. Like, have Kurono be the only survivor and then bring back Tae. The End. :( Probably won't happen that way however. Oh hey, here's an idea. How about if an alien that was defeated with the teleportation weapon made a return? Would be a great vehicle for explaining things.

They've been calling them aliens, then demons, but this guy is something else. It's like they're fighting Raiden the god of lightning. Plus he says he plans on killing all of mankind. that was funny. on another point, it's easy to find out what happens after this: you just have to read (or look at the pictures) in the jap version and you'll find out. the downside is that it takes the fun away from investigating or guessing what will happen next and it IS what many refer to "spoiling". Chapter 210 I think... Of course I check around for new stuff more or less constantly :) It's funny in theory but it'll be a lot less funny if it happens for real. Probably won't though. Probably... I do not believe any of the other 'main' gantzers will be killed by this lightning demon. The psychic kid and kinniku rider were more expected to die because they had little side stories during this mission (which built up to their deaths). None of the other main characters got any sort of side story, so I don't expect any of them to die.

Cool guy and little kid are still prime targets though.

I prefer to think it's due to them being finally visible to the non-gantzer population. I mean, during every mission they've been invisible (they couldn't interact physically with anybody but yes with anything, except when Kurono jumped and saved Tae), and now the people in that street are seeing a group of freaky cosplayers dressed in black latex. Dude!!! wtf!!!!! I gotta see the next chapter (211)!!

On a side note: Rockstar is a really fast scanlator :D

Your logic is still flawed. If what you say is pertinent, then why isn't Reika dead yet? She's got a lot of background, a secret crush for Kurono and is becoming quite important as much as a main character. How about this: if she dies in the following two chapters, your deduced pattern will be valid :D

Besides, Tae's background was quite larger compared to the mewtwo-kid's and the countryside-general's background story which is why the kid was expected to die, we might expect the fighting guy to die too, but not Tae. You're saying: small sidestory = imminent death. Maybe. We'll see.

Has anybody noticed that lately Rockstar has been scanlating no more raws, rather like already printed jap editions? are we up to date with the current edition in japan?

Ah, joy... Another chapter of Gantz out :) Seems like the fight is getting nastier though. Looking bad for Kurono, the problem with him inspiring people is the risk of them becoming even more demoralized when something goes wrong with the leader. Aside from him and muscleman, nobody is doing much more than watching in a mixture of awe and horror. The rest of the team needs to get involved fast if they want to beat this thing. I wonder if "Raiden" needs time to recharge his thunder? Or maybe he only uses it on someone he feels is an actual threat, and therefore warrants it.

Hee hee, I think that about sums it up :) Too bad the old guy got zapped, I think his presence is one of the things that sets Gantz apart from so much of the other stuff out there. Well, one of many things anyway. It just occured to me, since the timer stopped, maybe after this fight they won't get transported back to the room? That could be really important if Kurono, for example, is mortally wounded and counting on being healed at the end of the mission. But don't be a stranger yaminohaka, where do you think it's heading? Are you up to date with the manga?

Anyone here read chapter 212 yet? Kurono is starting to kick that demon's guy (aka Raiden) butt. I think that lately with the way that the story has progressed it's getting a little too messed up for my taste. I mean i'm not saying that it's bad or anything, but the way that they introduced vampires and aliens like that, when before it was supposedly just aliens. I mean WTF? By the way do you any of you guys think that Kurono is going to pass on reviving Tae or one of his friends for the first time he manages to get a 100 points? Cause I think that he might have to with the way things have been going, with the all the super strong opponents they've faced lately. So if he wants to continue with the games and get a 100 points 5 times over than he might have to sacrifice the first one for that reason. (5 cause of the weapon, revival of Tae, his friend Kato and Kie, and one more to free himself, and maybe a additional one if the old guy dies)
Oh and by the way does anybody have any thoughts or theories as to how the story is going to progress? I think that maybe Kei's brother the vampire is going to come along and have a heart to heart converstion about the situation at hand and maybe explain some of the details about gantz. What do you all think?

That would be a good way to answer some questions, hadn't thought of that... But I have a feeling his brother would just want to kill him, the vampires are really bloodthirsty after all. It's so hard to predict what'll happen in this manga, since it's been shown practically anyone can die at any time. Even NOT during a mission :( They're making progress against Raiden all right, but seem to be running out of members pretty fast too. Sometimes I get the feeling the writer overextended himself and not even he knows what's going on ;) If I'm right on that point, don't be surprised if it ends soon without explaining most things. The whole Tae relationship is really great though, one of the aspects of Gantz that sets it apart from other stuff. It's so hard to get past a person's outer appearance, and care for who they really are... Hopefully it works out for them in the end.

Well I hear that's it's really good, but I haven't seen it myself personally. The anime is supposedly suppose to follow the earlier parts of the manga and ends at 26 eps. Who is chrono? The psychic dude? He his death -hopefully not- was not in vain!!. The monets I saw him put his hand on raiden I knew something like raiden lossing his sigth would happen.

Where is Izumi? Kuruno just made his comeback, and "cool guy" has just snaped out of it -although he is still hidding- where is Izumi? Is he dead? did I miss that part?

One other thing, where are all the camara-phones we saw when Kuruno got killed?

The next chapter should be the last one on this mission, as in the alien is dead. And the chapter after that we will find out if Gantz will teleport the team to the room and give or the points or not.

I read up to the lastest chapter and it look like they will be able to kill that monster if they don't mess up. That monster is the strongest I have ever seen, so quick and so much power.

I just hope the Vampires won't be as strong as him. If they do, then Kurono and his gang will have a hard time beating them, and I can't wait for the Kurono and His brother face to face fight. If there is one.

I see one last kick ass lightning bolt coming before Raiden bites the dust. As much as I like the series, I am a little frustrated always waiting and knowing it could be years before it wraps up. Ah, so impatient... ;) If you think about it, it would totally make sense for the story to move off planet at some point. For example, shoot your human ally with that "transport" gun. And if that happened, it could REALLY go for a long time. Depends on how the writer feels I suppose. Still, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Awesome manga! :D

The story is getting more and more ominous...Even *if* they win the battle against Raiden, they're still in a LOT of trouble. Sure, the vampires might not have Raiden's raw power, but they are a HELL of a lot smarter and nastier, particularly with the ability to form swords/guns out of air.

Personally, I have a feeling that Izumi, if he survives, will cash in his points for the 'Ultimate Weapon'. If not, we'll probably never get the chance to see it.

Too bad Chrono and his sempai kicked the bucket...And just when he was getting heroic! Ah, well...That's happened before, and it's probably gonna happen again.

On a side note...What happened to the Gantz Cycle, the one they used on the dinosaur mission? Any chance they'll bring it out soon?

I guess I owe you an apology :p It seems that I forgot that HF wiped out every thread in the torrent section when the tracker went back up (sort of). And that included many good threads that contained many compiled volumes and chapters from really great mangas.

I tried searching on the internet and the only torrent I found is one that contained all the chapters from ch1 to ch182 and the current chapter scanlated (by ROCKSTAR) is ch213. So it's more or less incomplete.

Somehow I can see Tae as being way more inspirational than the typical shoujo in distress type. For one thing, instead of fighting to save her life you're fighting to restore her to life. But the key element is that she's a normal girl. Of course there are plenty of the usual hot babes in Gantz, no complaints there! But Tae is so realistic, to me at least she seems like someone I could actually know and visualize. One of the many reasons Gantz is so apart from usual manga. It would be easy to just rely on action and violence for appeal, but they took a chance with her. I really hope things work out with her in the end... Actually the whole business of possibly being able to bring people back to life is quite inspired. It avoids the usual pitfalls of predictability with you knowing the hero will always live, or the excess darkness of people dying like flies and disappearing forever. I thought maybe chapter 214 would be the end of the fight with Raiden, since Kurono pretty much punched his head around backwards in 213. No such luck... Still worried about another lightning bolt though :(

I predict that there wil be atleast 3-4 chapter b4 this battle ends. Izumi finaly woke up, now he is going to say something along the lines of "Kuruno you are so cool but im still the best"
Anyhow, the sooner they are done with raiden the sooner we can find out whats with Gantz and the timer dissapering.

Do you guys think that He will bring back Tae? or you bring back Tae? I, for one, would bring back Katou to see what happens or ask Izumi if he knows what happens with the person that is brought back -Tae as a gantz member = Tea in Gantz until she dies agian.-

I think the reason I'm always rushing to get stuff translated is I first take an interest in a series when it's already been going for a while. So, the first 50 or 100 chapters I download all at once. Tough making the adjustment to waiting for each new one to come out. Of course if it wasn't for the guys translating in the first place I'd have nothing, so thanks to them...

The vampire thing doesn't bother me for the moment. They clearly weren't expecting the team to come out alive, and didn't really give me the impression they'd stick around just in case. I imagine they'll pop up next mission. At the latest... The whole public thing is strange though. Of course I'm used to the writer taking his sweet time to explain stuff :) Interesting that even "baka" got over 100 points. I was worried they might cap your points at 100, make you choose and then start over from zero or something. Kind of cheap how Izumi stepped in at the last minute there, be pretty lame if he scams all the points from Kurono because of that... The scoring system is quite opaque however, so can't say for sure either way. I don't expect we'll know everything about what's going on, but it's a safe bet at least a few major issues will be addressed over the next few chapters.

The general public has been able to see the gantz team since the beginnig of the figth with raiden. Remember when the whole gantz team phaseshifted to fight Raiden, and Kuruno said "Believe me, we can kill you" that was also the time when the the Gantz clock dissapeared.
The reason Im guessing to why the timer disspeared is because gantz can only keep the team and aliens invicible for a certain period of time and that this whole time the timer only meant that and that when the timer went down to zero the team and the aliean would be made visible.

About "Baka" getting 100 point. it comes to no surprise to me, the whole team was killed lots of aliens in this mission and "Baka" did something to Raiden, maybe he is getting the most point out of everybody because his doing to Raiden was what brought Raiden's down fall. but, actually killing the alien must also be worth something, looks like Kuruno is not getting points form Raiden.

I don't think that gantz just can keep them invicible just for a period of time. There is no point in giving them a certain amount of time if gantz can't keep them invicible. I mean, there was still 15 minutes left, when the clock dissapeared and i'm quite sure that the clock stopping and the people seeing the fight, this was not planned to begin with... just that the circumstances changed and for some reason that I can't even imagine, Gantz did what it did.

Keeping the team and targets invisible may be a combination of factors, both time and the intensity of battle... That would explain why it happened before the timer reached zero. I've probably been reading more meaning into that than there is because I'd like it to lead into answering all those other questions that've been drifting around :) I should probably take back what I said about poor Baka too, got so carried away with the fight at the end that I forgot all the craziness leading up to it too.

hmmm... i dont think that gantz has a limit factor to the invisibility. hes probably just having fun and trying to mess with chrono since he hates him now.
anyways, hopefully the author will explain why this and that happened later on in futuree chapters. if baka got those huge amount of point for just hurting raiden... i wonder what about old guy and muscle rider... comon chrono!!! get 300 points!!!

Kuruno and the team becoming visible -to the general public- was, of course, not planed. The team only wanted to become visible to Raiden only, it just happend to be that both Raiden and the genral public were in the same "frecuency".

I believe that the clock disapeared as a consequence to the general public being able to see the gantz team.
Maybe The timer only means how much time can Gatz keep them invicible in one try. Once the timer reached Zero everybody is visible but they can turn invisible back again and the clock would restart.

I would give him a 100 points for effort and heroic action (Remember how GANTZ rewards heroic action?) alone. I mean, that guy was really, really badass this time: He pretty much fought Raiden to a standstill, and was the second guy to injure him.

Wonder why Kurono favored the Gantz Saber over the X Gun this time? Any explanation for that?

finally caught up with the series, took long enough to find them all and wow. I'm even more in love with Gantz than I was before.

And i dont think its Gantz that "makes" them invisible or even keeps them invisible. If that were the case then they couldnt change frequencies.
When they're transported to the room they change frequencies, but with the map device then can change the frequency at will. From what I can tell there are at least 3 frequencies [3 used so far]. Theres what i'll call frequency #1: normal, the plain of existence that normal humans exist on [frequency 1 can only see frequency 1]. #2: the gantz frequence, people on the first frequency cant see them, but people on 2 can see frequency 1 and 2. This is the frequency they are automatically changed to when summoned by gantz. Then theres the just recently used frequency #3. This is when Kurono went into #1 to talk to Tae and save her. When shes crouching behind the wall with the 3 guys who are about to attack her. Kurono dissapears and they cant see him attacking. Since they are on frequency #2 they can see 1 and 2, but they couldnt see him. Then he changes back and can be seen again. So I think they control the frequencies, but gantz [when transporting them] changes them to frequency 2 as a default.
Not sure why Tae could see the 3 guys though, unless they changed to frequency 1, then Kurono was on 2, which would make sense as they couldnt see him and then my whole theory above is off. Like the other targets Gantz designates, they cannot be seen by humans [frequency #2]. But Tae is human, therefore defaulted to #1. Kurono had to change frequencies to let her see him. So maybe there are only 2 and everyone changed to #1 therefore completely exposed, and that might be why gantz shut off the timer. If she is on 2 though, how'd she change frequencies? Does Gantz have power over people who havnt died and arent aliens?
Those are my thoughts.

One thing I wanna know is that if someone with 100pts chooses to bring someone back from memory, do they have to then fight for freedom [fight to get 100 pts then choose]? Or are they free from the start of their new life?

Personally, If I was in that kind of situation, give me the BFG!!! or whatever the really powerful weapon is.

I actually think this whole bring-back-to-life business is going to ruin the manga, at least for me. What is the point of anyone dying now if you can simply get enough points and bring them back? I am hoping there is some sort of twisted catch, else this manga could end up having a mushy happy ending. One of the things that really got me into gantz in the first place was the graphic brutality and willingness to kill off some main characters in gruesome ways. But now it's like they have continues, kind of takes out a lot of the suspense for me now.

Even if Kurono dies sometime in the near future, with all the friends he made now I am pretty sure someone would wish him back as soon as they got the points. Kinda like the dragonballs in Dragonball Z lol

getting a hundred points may SOUND easy... but hell, chrono lost like... a billion friends so far. baka is nearly dead (or was) and now he cant use his psychic abilities since it can be used only so many times. its not like killing the aliens will be easy every time as we've seen gantz member getting own countless times.

hmmm... not quite sure how it worked... but since tae was the enemy, she can see gantz members, even though she was human. since gantz is a fair player, he wont do cheap things like not know your enemy who is trying to kill you. not quite sure how he was able to let tae see them... i think gantz IS able to control visibility. that or the fact that tae took a picture of a gantz member and realize chrono was on top of her, probably had something to do with it...

to answer another question. comon... do you think ANYONE is strong enough to pull off 100 points now that the vamps are here and the aliens are stronger... sure izumu (or whatever his fag name is) got 100 points last time with TWO other people... (wait... did his friends also get 100 points? no way to figure that one out...) and im pretty sure that only oldguy and reika would try and bring him back if they get 100 points.

It's funny you mention dragonball, I was mentally comparing the two myself... There are SOOOO many obstacles, I wouldn't worry about everyone getting revived. I still think that soldier guy would be a good choice though. At some point they may run out of aliens to kill anyway. I think all the low level ones like in the early missions are staying the heck away from earth now. I don't think the innocent civilians are saved in memory either, (although Tae being in memory does sort of muddy the situation) so with the huge number of bystanders being killed it's dark no matter how you look at it. It would be kind of cool to spend 100 points getting the super weapon and then killing Gantz with it for revenge though ;) Also it's taken 200-plus chapters to get to a point where even 1 person is revived. You'd think at some point in time the goverment would start figuring out what's going on too. I wonder if they aren't partially aware already, but don't feel it's appropriate to act? Or if there's some kind of government involvement, on some level... Like maybe they were approached by aliens and presented with a take it or leave it offer, where all the other choices were even worse. "You let us turn your planet into an extreme sports arena, and we don't blow it up"

What I am trying to say it that maybe gantz can only keep the team on frequency other than #1 only for a certan amount of time in a single "woop" (I dont know what else to say =) ) and if everybody turns the frecuancy #1 then Gantz gets a breather and the clock restarts -after some one changes frencuencies back again-

We will soon find out. What Im guessing is the person revived is revived as a gantz member who will have to fight for his eventual freedom or die -again- in the process. Needless to say that getting 100pts. is very hard.

Dont worry about "Baka" and him loosing his powers, evertime they are retrun the room they are "fixed" by gantz.

Well i know getting 100 points aint easy, but it's just if you play long enough everybody will get revived, at least the important people. Nobody cares about that grandma and kid that got done in. One thing I think is going to happen is that once Kurono revives Katou, he might revert back to his oldself. The Kurono we have now has confidence because he is the leader. He didn't really want to be the leader, but since no one else around was as qualified as he was he did the job. He didn't like it at first but now he enjoys the attention. If Katou returns, he doesn't have to lead anymore. Well he will probably still lead but now he will turn to Katou if he has to make a tough decision and be relying on him. I can also see Katou doing some heroic things that Kurono wouldn't normally do and winning over other team members, maybe even making Kurono jealous. Up until now Kurono has only been doing 'what would Katou have done?' but if they bring Katou back there is no need for him to do it anymore.

Of course Kurono is still king at saving his own ass when he is in a piss poor situation, but as far as team goes if they start reviving people he will lose his leader status and probably become jealous and competetive.

Hmm, it could realy change the team dynamic depending on who gets revived... Hadn't thought of that too much, good point. Say a person wants to spend his points one way, and the other members of the team disagree. Like, "Don't revive that idiot, get the weapon so we don't all die next mission!" Or the opposite, like someone gets 200 points and everybody begs him to spend the 2nd 100 points reviving their buddy. Could go in a few different directions. I do sort of care about the grandma and the nobodies by the way. Can't help but feel if I was in that situation, or any normal person was, I'd just end up dead real fast. One person who sticks in my mind is the school teacher who remarked on how this was all an Eichmann test. I know what he's talking about, but had never heard it described in those terms. Must have been a pain to translate :)

Yeah, I just grabbed the translated 217 myself... After all the chapters where it's just a fight dragging on and on they've totally upped the pace :) Naruto could learn a thing or two ;) Really reaching back to some of the early victims though, super cool! Gantz is normally so stingy with points, it's great to see how everybody so far has actually got something resembling what they deserve. I wonder if they'll change main characters now? It's possible. And I'm sure some of the revived people will want to earn points to revive more who are close to them and perished.

yo i'm so happy witht the latest chapter of gantz, just finnished reading the translated version of chapter 217. I have to say that I'm really curious as to how many points Kurono got, as well as when Tae was revived, did she in fact have all of her memories erased by gantz when she was hunted as well as all of her memories of Kurono? Gotta say that I'm really excited about what's going to happen in the next few chapters, especially with what happened to Katou's little brother, everyone seemed to have forgotten about him after Katou died. Anyone else wondering if Tomb Raider is going to be brought back to life?

Oh yeah that reminds me: was it ever explained why there was a copy of Kei while she was still participating in the Gantz missions? That was one of the most enigmatic aspects of the plot. And in the end, Kei still lived... well, her copy did. Why was that?

Oh so that's what it was about... Been so long I had completely forgotten, yeah it was pretty weird. Anyway it's great how everybody (well almost everybody, Izumi is a murdering sociopath so can't expect much there :p ) is spending their points to help out Kurono. Good point about what'll happen with Tae's memory. Are they going to bring her back only to make her a target again? That would be horrible! At any rate shouldn't be too long before the vampires say hello. They don't seem the type to just sit around waiting and let others set the pace.

Hey does anyone think that they'll revive that kid again? The Middle Schooler that was killed by the Tanako Alien (Birds Creatures in the Robot Suits). Cause although he was a Jerk and a Asshole to everyone, he seemed to be the only one that knew something about what was going on, about the games and about Gantz. So I think that it is within the realm of possibility that he'll be revived, and I'm curious to what you all think.

Yeah, bringing back somebody from a loooooong time ago would be quite the twist so I wouldn't put it past the mangaka. Maybe if they had enough points... He really was a twit personality-wise, but the information would be helpful. Although now that I think of it, a better choice might be the guy who got eaten by the Shiva-type and sort of merged with it (the six arms thing that pretty much killed everyone by itself). I mean the most the kid could know is what it's been told by Gantz, but if somehow that guy retained even a bit of knowledge from the alien it could change things entirely. As things are now, it's like they're trying to set a record for the number of chapters before answering the simple question "why?". Then again I still think they should try questioning the targets before or even during the fight. Would have been nice if they could just tell Raiden his beef is with the black ball and not humanity. Little late for that now though :p Anyway not an unreasonable idea about the kid, in my opinion.

Kuruno if not Katou will revive Kishimoto. I Katou ever gets over 100 pts, he is reviving Kishimoto. I mean after she confessed to him and died with him, it is not in his character to not revive her.
I think Kuruno should revive Sakura[Lara Croft] now that he doesnt have to revive Tae.

I cant wait till the next chapter. Does the revived person remember what happened to them? Does Tae remember her death and "know" what Gantz is? is she a gantz member now? will Katou be awarded the points he earned at the Buddha mission? Where will he go after they[the gang] can get out of the room? if he goes to his aparment, whats up with his brother, what has been of him? And Tae, where will she go, what would be her story to her parents for her disapearence or will she move in with Kuruno?
this manga is so good.

Tae is really sweet and all, but in terms of fighting skills I don't think she can compete with Lara / Sakura. Yeah I can live with not seeing the annoying kid again. He died pathetically, but not so pathetically you'd feel terribly sorry for him. I'd be surprised if the thought of bringing back Sakura hadn't at least crossed his mind though. Didn't he do some fun things with her until somebody walked in on them? Or am I thinking of someone else...

Speaking about revival useful characters, it'd be nice if they revived that Sniper guy that died during the Temple fight with the Buddhist statues. Or maybe even the Karate guy? I've been thinking they should DEFINITELY bring back the soldier for a long time. Not just as a sniper but on a number of levels I think he's the best fighter so far. They've got all this advanced technology lying around that's so underutilized. Hand to hand combat, be it with fists and swords, will only get you so far. The karate guy was pretty good but there are a lot of people ahead of him in line. I mean they already have the mountain general for close in fighting after all ;) I haven't seen any indication Gantz would prevent someone being revived. Even if they were really powerful like the soldier, the targets are so high level it more than balances out. Hmm, it occurs to me maybe one good reason to bring back the demented kid from the first mission is maybe the kid knows of someone who died before Kurono came alone, who knows something vital. Doesn't seem like the kid knows anything that critical firsthand, but maybe secondhand... Wasn't there a website for Gantz they could check up on as well? I wonder whatever happened with that.

Well I was referring to some sort of a restriction as an actual rule or anything, but as Gantz being a douche. What I mean is sort of like how it happened in the beginning when hardly anyone was dying and everyone was more or less alive for the next mission, that is until the temple mission. Like as soon as the Kurono and everyone start to do extremely well and think that their going to make it, something always seem to happen. So I think that Gantz would most likely send them on crazy ass hard missions, which end up killing just about everyone and leaving only one member left standing. So even if they were to let's say fair really well and revive all the important members back to life, you know that Gantz isn't going to let it last long. In terms of the website, it was started up by the middle schooler that I mentioned, and Kurono was looking at it to see if it had any clues about Gantz. But he sort of lost interest and got distracted after the mission with Tae dying.

Does Kuruno actually really love Tae? I mean, Wasnt he in an emotional distress [all his friends just died, both in Gantz and in School] when he met her and became his Boyfriend. Tae was to Kuruno a reminder of how peaceful and innocent live can be and that the reason why Kuruno is trying to bring her back is because he[kuruno] feels as the sole responsble for her death. Kuruno needs tae to hang on to his humanity and sanity.
On the other hand I do believe that Tae loved/loves Kuruno[and that she could have been a little obsced(?) with him]and the Kuruno did grew to care for Tae but that it did not grow into fulfledged love.
IF this holds true then reviving Sakura is not out of the possible possibilities.

As for bringing back Nishin [the middle-schooler] I think that the might know something the Gantz team doesnt know yet but whatever he knows, because of his personaly and treatment of others, no-one is going to use[waste] thier points on him.

Yeah I do agree with you about how Tae is what keeps Kurono's sanity and humanity in check, but I disagree with you in terms of his feelings for Tae. I do think that it is in fact full-fledged love, although he may have betrayed her by going out with the other girl, the fact that he still clings onto her and didn't really move on with his life is point to make about how devoted he is to Tae. I mean even if it was just a deep affection, it would have probably ended the same way as did with Tomb Raider. In terms of bringing back Nishin, I think that Katou would be the one to suggest doing it, since he wasn't able to save him before and might feel guilty about his lack of strength /conviction to save another human being's life.

I just had a really stupid thought. Next mission they all go back to fight the baddies with their revived colleagues only the target is... Raiden again, and all the horrible targets they fought before! When they meet Raiden he says "Yeah, I was dead for a while but turns out my friends have been running around getting points themselves from this Gantz thing and, well... :p"

To be honest I think that the Mangaka is messed enough to pull this type of stunt off, like it isn't out of the realm of possibility to see this happening in the manga. Btw does anyone think that it's taking a really long time for the next chapter of Gantz to come out? I mean I'm waiting and waiting and waiting, and it seems like forever before the next chapter will come out. The suspense of chapter 217 is just killing me, seeing as how they ended it off with Katou just about to be revived. Damn, I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I gotta see the next chapter!

I really wonder what's gonna happen now. It's like the first episode over again, katou is back and i wonder if he'll steal kuruno's star position. In my opinion he won't, because kuruno is the shit now. If anything he'll be surprised and they will team up to make the perfect co-leadership. With katou's care for people and organization skills and kurono's survival skills the may be able to maintain a quarter of the group alive in the next mission.....well i'm being optimistic.
Kuruno is a pimp, but i don't think he'll try and revive lara croft....he has to choose and the only guy left with the otpion to save someone is "muscle rider". Besides next mission will be hell so it may not be a bad idea to stack up on weapons.
So in my opinion Kei will come back and that's it. They need the damn weapons.
And the poor little kid has probably 0 points and can't do shit and will never get out of gantz alive (unless he somehow stay alive until he becomes an adolescent, lol)
And I can't wait !!!!!

No kidding, I think it must have been around october 16/17 that chapter 217 came out. So, that's like closing in on 4 weeks now :( Well I shouldn't complain too much since I could easily have gotten zero chapters. The problem is that when I first got into Gantz a whole bunch of chapters were already out, so I could burn through like 100 chapters in a single day. Well provided it's a day off work anyway, heh heh... But then it abruptly switches to weeks inbetween chapters, sorta rough. One Piece comes out fairly regularily at least. Hunter X Hunter seems to have dropped off the planet though.

Yeah, seemed like he was changing into a vampire or starting to realize he was one. The fact that it's a process is intriguing. What determines who "becomes" a vampire? Are they vampires all along but only become aware of it at a certain point? My memory is if anything even more vague on the subject, but something about a classroom where the teacher is lecturing on nanotechnology as if it had been in use for centuries springs to mind. He somehow endend in class room where a profesor was explainig from where is it that vampires draw thier power from and after he got out of there the vampires, the 5-4 from the dino mission[we need to think of a nick for the them], talk to him and make him drink some blood too.
AND if im not mistaken, he has meet kuruno in one of the missions already... I think it was the during the dino mission.

Finally Chapter 218 is OUT!!! It's been such a long wait that I almost gave up hope on it. Man was that chapter awesome, help to clear up a few things. And it looks like a another cliffhanger that the Mangaka left us with what Muscle Rider is gonna revive with his 100 points, although we all know it's gonna be Kei. Honestly I think that he should have earned alot more since he took down one of the execs. I mean that stone demon that he had to fight was no chump, so the number of points that he got was somewhat disappointing considering how many the old man got as well as the actress. Ahh well, I guess I can't complain too much since he did get the 100 points. Btw do any of you guys think that he should have picked the weapon instead of reviving someone? Personally I'm thinking he should have picked the weapon. Also now that Kei is probably gonna be revived cause of Muscle Rider or Mountain General (Whichever you prefer), what do you think that Kurono is gonna do with his points?

Is it just me, or did the time between the raw coming out and the translation coming out seem like practically zero? When I saw tilter's post the only thing I could find was the raw on tokyotosho, which seemed to be dated quite recently. Then I checked again a couple hours later and poof there it is :) Just normally I complain about things taking forever, figured I should give some credits (deserved or not ;) ) for a change... Anyway not a whole heck of a lot happened but it was still enjoyable. It would be interesting if you could buy freedom for someone other than yourself. They've sort of been trying to do that by preventing Kurono from spending his 100 points, but for someone who has zero points because they were just revived I guess they're out of luck. Although maybe that little kid will get 100 points and buy his freedom, hmm...

In case it is the reall 218 chp then... who do you think Kuruno is going to revie next?? He has Muscle Rider's points plus his points. With some luck, Kuruno will bring back Sakura.

From the looks of Raw for Chapter 219, my guess about Nishino the Middle-Schooler coming back seems to be correct. Also my other guesses about Tomb Raider and Kei might coming back also seem to be taken into consideration by Kurono. Still it's pretty interesting to see that Nishino was brought back instead of the two gals, which was pretty unexpected unlike the last chapter. I wonder how Nishino will react to being brought to life, you guys think that he'll form an alliance with Izumi, since those two are similiar in terms of their personalities? Or do you guys think that he'll side with Kurono and the rest of the gang? Since he might feel some sort of obligation to those guys after being revived, as well as the greater the numbers the greater the chances are for survival.

I believe he'll go with Imuzo since it seems they knew each other before Kurono and gang got there the 1st time around since Imuzo knew about the website Nishino was updating of all the previous players who died in previous missions.

Also, Kurono might feel obligated to revive him since Nishino did give him the info when he first got there plus he might have a feeling that he needs the strongest people he can get to be part of the time since he knows about the other boss that didn't fight the last time might appear again in their next mission. Which brings another question. If I'm right will he than go for #2(powerful weapon) or #3, just bring one of the two woman back?

Personally I think that he might actually have enough points to do both, cause before the mission even started he had a total of 78 points and was only 22 points away from reaching a 100. So the fact that he himself has not only helped to take down Raiden, he also took care of alot those other chumps. The real question would be who he decides to bring back, is it Kei? or TombRaider? Or maybe someone unexpected like the Sniper Dude, cause like you said he seems to be trying to revive all the strong players for the upcoming battles.

I really want to see what is the ultimate weapon, I wonder if it is different for every person. I think Kurono will revive both of the girls(tombraider/Kei). I can't wait for the next chapter, and why are the chapter so short...

Why are the chapter so short...This series is release in a weekly magazine, forget name of it, so the author can only do some many pages at a time. Heck, for this author sometimes he needs two week to do a chapter since there have been a number of delays from him.

I'm glad Nishino is back. I don't like all this reviving in general but he's a good character to revive. The other character I'd want (but I know won't be revived) is the sniper. He was pretty strong.

actually I already knew that this manga was serialized weekly(sometimes it miss a week or two) in Young Jump. What I was trying to say was why does one chapter seem so short, and obvious it was because of the amount of dialogue...and reading too fast...

Note: I forgot to put in "Seem" before the "so short"

For Gantz there are a few things yet to be settle

- vampires: killing them will prove to be a hard task...with no points...unless Gantz...
- reviving: mission to revive, hope no one dies...
- Gantz...?

I see they have 219 translated now :) About manga coming out in weekly magazines, doesn't it sometimes skip an issue? I mean the magazine will still come out but instead of having Gantz or Berzerk or Hunter x Hunter it'll switch it with something else... Or are there like monthly magazines as well that come out with several chapters at once? Hmm, kind of curious as to the possibilities actually. Gantz is quite the fast read I suppose. So this middle schooler kid, it's that evil one we all hate and never seriously expected or especially wanted back?! Argh!

I was watching the old Yamato series and noticed one of the super minor characters was named Gantz. Outside of the actual Gantz manga / anime this is the only time I've noticed a reference to that. Maybe the maker of Gantz is a Yamato fan? It was like episode 3 by the way...

I have a hard time keeping track of the passage of time in Gantz, but the kid seems to have been around for longer than anyone. Of course his missions must have been way easier so battle experience isn't really the point I suppose. Could be they just took a chance and it'll backfire on the team. Maybe he could tell them "Say there was a guy I fought alongside who taught me everything and even though I don't know the secret of Gantz mr XXXX does so revive him / her next"

Kuronooooo!!! How could you pick #1? The others are asking to get the butts kicked without Kurono around.

I can think of a few ways Kurono can be worked back into the story, but I'm wondering which one the author will choose. Or maybe he won't come back at all, but probably not.

I thought that he will have much more points than that considering how much alien he got rid off, should be aleast over 200 or so. So he decided not to revive the other girls, well maybe he get that chance soon enough... One week one chapter... -_-*

Man this chapter was full of surprises. One being Kurono getting so few points and second Kurono not reviving one of the girls or getting the weapon, but freeing himself. Shit what a disappointment, I thought that Kurono was less selfish and more of a hero now, but WTH??? Like did he just bring back Katou to replace him? Even though he knows for a fact that no one can replace him. Btw did anyone notice how Nishino the Middle Schooler was suprised to see Izumo. I think that they'll definately be a connection between those two and bring Kurono back to Gantz.

Yeah, credits to the mangaka for giving us two major plot twists in a row :D I do think the connection between Nishi and Izumo is very intriguing. Funny thing, you think about how much being in Gantz changes people... Maybe in Izumo's first time around he was completely different, more like Kurono. Since his memory was wiped it might be like that (I don't think he got it back when he returned to Gantz). Could the same thing happen to Kurono, with his personality reverting to what it was before Gantz and him being a jerk? And then like Izumo he might look at the website or something, start to remember, get obsessed with coming back... Anyway I think it's more likely he'll just get killed as an innocent bystander in one of the next missions. The number of civilian casualties just keeps going up and up it seems.

This is just a theory of mine, but I think that Kurono chose to be free cause he knew that he was going to be brought back anyways. What I mean by that is simply, Kurono is now famous for his fight against Raiden. Like everyone saw it happening, and it was even captured on camera. So my reasoning is that Kurono knew that he would be killed off again and brought back to Gantz. While in the meantime he could try to relax and spend time with Tae, while Katou, Nishino, and Izumo hold the fort. That's my guess on the whole situation.

One can't be 100% sure that Kurono would pick option 1 before 221 being actually out...the author could well start with "option 1 is not what I want"...besides Kurono still have to touch the screen to select...

A couple reason I doubt Kurono would choose freedom at this stage.
1. Nishi just got revived, there's no point reviving him without asking him what Gantz is about. Kurono is the only one that survived the whole time since nishi's death, and probably the only one that can get info out of Nishi...
2. Safety. Having the suit is actually safer way to survive now that the vampires all know what they all look like...
3. Memory. I don't think Kurono would want to lose the memory of Tae so soon since he worked so hard to get the 100 points...(sure Reika revived Tae but Kurono wanted to do that all along anyway)
4. "big breast" and "lara" are still dead, and kurono's friends are still in the game. I think the only time that Kurono would actually choose freedom is when all his friends choose freedom

But then again the author is good at throwing in surprises...and I don't mind kato-cha being the leader...
