I've set my default language to japanese and usually have no problem in playing games, but there are a few games that still display garbled characters. For example: Anono and Guilty games like Seido Maria and Bichiku.
They all have the option to change the font, yet my japanese fonts can't be displayed correctly and the default font is set to Lucida Console.
Is there a way to correct this problem? I was forced to play Anono in Jwin98SE but I haven't installed that os again and if possible I'd like to avoid the option of installing it.

Double-check that you have everything turned on (the stuff for non-Unicode programs, etc.). There's info in this thread (http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9). You may already have everything set right, but it can't hurt to check to be sure.

I had the same problem for some games. But when I changed the display format from English to Japanese (in regional and language settings), the problem went away. You might want to try that if you haven't done so.

Ah thanks! I thought I've done every steps needed, but I didn't know about this one :p

does anyone know how to fix this problem in 2k pro? since it lacks certain features, like changing the non-unicode stuff, is there anyway to fix it? or is it pretty much stuck like that? its no huge deal really but it is kinda annoying

some Japanese games can only be installed under Japanese windows. I think that is the font problem.

from my experience, they can still be installed on a non-japanese windows as long as it has language support or regional options, like 2k and xp, but how it will run is a different case, all the games ive installed run fine under 2k, they just have the garbled junk text, which isnt a big deal since i can only read 2% of japanese anyway. surprisingly, oh! text hooker still works corrently even when the text is all messed up, which is good, unless youre trying to read the japanese text :D

If you have japanese language package for windowXP,You can install it.
Try to use this----the Microsoft AppLocale. It can help you to change you system's language and do not restart the PC.

although, with the use of ApplLocale, i still found some Jap Games not being able to display Japanese text properly, so in other words, you have no choice but to actually change your language to Japanese in the regional settings and restart your computer
