an extension of the games torrents would be games by format, but there also needs to be a discussion place for these consoles. and why not dreamcast aswell as ps2, xbox, gc, pc etc. psp and ds also, but since we have sooo... many dc torrents here (though not enough still...), and anyone can rip, up and play a dc game (especially since they're around $12 for the console). also, dreamcast is by sega. SEGA!!!! the god of gaming.
plus, dc is 128bit generation too....
long live DC. :D

Dreamcast is still part of the current Next-gen sonole, but it died a grusome death.
Very unfortunate since (like N64 and currently Gamecube) it has great games but the lack of console sales killed it off.
I like my little old dreamcast... Sega was one of the gods of gaming along with Nintendo and now the evil devils of Sony and Microsoft decided to take over... BOO!

Yeah,
Sad that Sega went under.
Creators of some the best consoles to date:
Dreamcast and Saturn.
Unfortunately both died a lonely, gruesome death.

The Dreamcast is still the number 1 system on my System Selector. Soul Caliber was the most graphically beautiful console game ever, and it was on the DC. Only recently have games started to surpass what the DC was capable of...and the game that overtook it? Soul Caliber 2...'nuff said.

i agree with you on so many levels.
btw, my soul calibur [dc] upload is still seeding....

sc is so good.
the DC version of dead or alive (i have japanese limited edition. i may seed soon) is awesome for graphics.
so...for all the people who dislike dc, ask yourself why...
is it the graphics? no...the graphics were revolutionary for the time, and still stand up against ps2 xbox and gc now
is it the games? god no...the games arre amongst the best ever released on any platform. if it were still going, there would be even more games like ikaruga, soul calibur, samba de amigo, rez, shenmue, sonic adventure, space channel 5, puyo puyo, jet set radio, skies of arcadia, chu chu rocket etc.
so what is it? is it the same reason that people dislike gamecube? because other people dislike it? because there is a failed notion that there are no games and the graphics are bad?
the dreamcast is just very very very very good.
and we need a place to talk.

The reason why DC died can be said of the crappy marketing that Sega did, their previous console (Saturn) was crushed with very few good titles. Dreamcast improved on the Saturn's faults and had a ton of great games (Capcom vs Marvel, Soul Calibur, Shen Mue, Ikaruga, Grandia etc) but no one bought it, the casual gamer expected it to be another Saturn failure, but with the lack of support from the customers, it did fail.
Today's society nowadays are bought up from the 'Playstation' era, they consider Sony Playstation a 'God', but true gamers remembers the days of Snes and Megadrive(Genesis), those were the true masters of the market. Its a tough time for Nintendo now, as the casual gamers are neglecting gameplay and want graphics and just mature games.
anyways, Sega are still making classy games (Feel the Magic was good, Super Monkey Ball is an instantly good game, Sonic games are traditionally good) but sad to see Sega not go into the console business anymore. *cries*

Custom media is a marginal reason to dislike the Dreamcast, themabus. If you have an early enough version of the DC, it can still boot CD media as long as it is formatted properly. Sure makes playing back-ups easy and stress-free (no boot-disc or mod chip). Not to mention all the homebrewn games that are available (Feet of Fury, DoomDC, etc...) thanks to CD-compatible Dreamcasts.
Glad to chat with someone as passionate about the DC as me, chompy. Seems your post has brought the DC fans out of the woodwork. The first time I realized that the DC was still a graphical beast was when I played Soul Reaver 2 on the PS2 and saw that the graphics were no better than the DC version of the first Soul Reaver. It's a monster of a system, IMO, even by today's standards.
nick64 posed some good observations. The downfall of Sega's systems, IMO, is the fact that they are so ahead of their time. Everyone scoffed when they made the Sega CD, but now all of the consoles use discs instead of cartridges. Sega CD and Saturn both had internal memory storage, which we didn't see again until XBox. Saturn had an accessory for Web Access and the first analog controller, now all the systems have both of those things. Dreamcast was the first system to come with net access right out of the box (even though it was dial-up), the only system (at least in the US) that had interactive memory cards, and, again IMO, has the highest percentage of solid titles out of any of the 128-bit systems. Sega was the innovator, and that title carried a heavy price apparently.
Sega, you rule!! Your additions to the console market will be sorely missed!!

I think i spent more time playing PSO on DC then on any other game in my life.
I had over 200 DC games(mostly japanese) that i purchased while i lived in Korea. Sadly, those got stolen. Now I, must start all over again.
Here are some games that i'm willing to share.
Psyvariar 2: The will to Fabricate
Ikaruga
Zero Gunner 2
Power Stone 2
Dead or Alive LE
Record of Lodoss War
King of Fighters: Dream Match 99
King of Fighters: 2001

Damn, did I waste so many days of my life playing PSO on the DC! I had just under 100 US games for my DC that got stolen as well. I feel your pain, maxstats!! At least we can burn ISOs to CD-R and reclaim that which we lost. :D
Powerstone 2 is a totally solid title!! Any DC owner that doesn't have it, shame on you! Record of the Lodoss Wars was a fun anime-inspired title, too.

Yes, the Dreamcast "rocks" (not rocked) so much. Too bad that I can't find any games where I live anymore (well, complete games atleast). I have to say that at first, I disliked the DC, until I read more and more info about it and then playing it first hand. I ended up getting a Japanese DC, and later a US DC.
The saturn was also a great console. I don't own one, but I borrowed one from a friend. Too bad that someone blew it up, there was green smoke everywhere.
How about changing the game forums to "Sega", "Sony", "Nintendo", "Microsoft", "Classic consoles", "Arcade", "PC", ETC?

The dreamcast was a failure, simply because Sega's braindead marketing department didn't learn from their mistakes from the Saturn (which was an EXCELLENT system, in my opinion; Panzer Dragoon Saga is testiment to how godly the hardware really was)
Unfortunately, instead of firing everyone in the marketing division, Sega decided to opt of the hardware scene...which was a good move at the time...but they seriously need to come back into hardware (and get rid of the marketing staff)...considering they are the only ones who know how to make games properly, and they can only do it well with their proprietary hardware.
Long live Sega!

Skies of Arcadia.... BRILLIANT GAME!!! And for the dream cast... And to the guy who said xbox is blah mhz dreamcast is bloh mhz... So? Surely thats not what gaming is about. The old Civilization game, used to be played in dos. Needed no specs near enough. A new one was released called call to power. Needed a pretty good pc to run. ANyways long story short... Call to power has nothing on the original. Its pooh in comparison. Mhz dont make a good console. PS2 isnt as powerful as the Xbox... But still its just as good. If not better to some people (Not me)

It was the sowrd of Berserk and some other game. Starlancer maybe?
The only onther Pirates I got after that was Gundam battle online and Shenmue. I imported Shunmue form America (lived in Thailand at the time) and turns out the boot disc wouldn't boot it on my japanese DC, so I just get a pirate copy instead of modding my DC. After the US price drop, I got one of the US DCs, turned out the Shenmue disc was defective.

The real problem with Dreamcast is that CDs are a pain in the ass to rip. You've either got to get a broadband or Serial adapter (both of which are slow) in order to rip the CD, because of the way in which Sega compressed the CD images.
As for PS2, X-Box, and GC, there're no emulators that will run games available (other than maybe GC, and that's only some games), so I don't see a great deal of purpose unless it's for the express purpose of playing games on a modded system. Which is, in of itself, illegal. Just my two cents.

DOA 2 DC graphics are better than ps2 graphics
actually you are wrong here, the PS2 version of DOA2 has better graphics, added lighting effects and deeper colors plus some new stages. the only thing the DC DOA2 does better than the PS2 version is the mipmapping, which reduces any jaggies in the DC version. the PS2 version has no mipmapping and thus clearly visible jaggies.
the reason why I know this: I have them both and I just played the two versions simultaniously on two different tv's. I am a DOA maniac

02-02-2005, 11:22 AM
Nah, DC uses mipmapping which is different from AA, as it only is for a certain screenarea. you can see it clearly in soul calibur, where the farther parts of the stage are basically ignored by mipmapping.

THe DC has built in AA, so all 3D games should have smooth jaggies, but this isn't so with PS2, because its not implemented in the hardware and only the software.

Speaking of games, I'm thinking of torrenting Tako no Marine game :p
Couldn't get it to play, but it's supposed to work on emulation :)

ah great! didn't know there was a PAL version, i already got a japanese version from emule but i have no idea how to burn this on CD and play it on Dreamcast..
any ideas people?
Yasser

unzip, then burn the file (image) to a cd-r with alcohol-120% and that's it

Since the game is japanese, would there be any problem playing it on my UK Dreamcast console?
maohayato
02-03-2005, 01:42 PM
nope, not at all. I play all my NTSC games on my PAL DC
people only have problems when playing PAL games on NTSC consoles. in that case people need to apply a pal>ntsc patch

'
If you are using RGB / Scart, you might experience some screen flickering on your PAL DC.
maohayato
02-03-2005, 02:03 PM
also some ntsc games don't work well with a rgb/scart, for example SF3TS. in this case you'll also need to patch the game with a rgb/scart patch

maybe a bit of a stupid Question from me (i am usually good with technical stuff.. usually) but the image file is supposed to be a CDI file right?
All i need to do it burn that using Nero/Alcohol 120% and it should play on my DC?
maohayato
02-03-2005, 03:03 PM
alcohol120% or discjuggler. just burn and play.

oh, for PAL DCers this programme is gold: http://members.lycos.co.uk/megalexxx/
It lets you patch a game so it can run at 50Hz and also remove region protection. I had to use this to get CvS2 to work on my poor un-modded PAL DC and 50Hz tv
maohayato
02-05-2005, 11:03 AM
pal dreamcast doesn't need to be modded to be able to play ntsc and backups.
for patches go to megagames.
Yasser
02-05-2005, 11:27 AM
yeah but my tv only supports 50hz, and CvS2 is a 60hz game so to get it to work you can use pal patcher. or indeed megagames as you say but they don't always have the patch you may want
As long as ebay and amazon lives, you can always get copies of the old games and new memory card! :D
DemonEyesKyo
02-05-2005, 06:15 PM
i dont get it why do u guys keep on saying apl..is that the memory card..cause all the games ive dl and burned work with my memory card..
maohayato
02-05-2005, 06:54 PM
PAL is a signal broadcast system that is used in European countries and some other countries as well. there are also NTSC(used in USA and some asian countries) and SECAM. PAL is 50hz, NTSC is 60hz
VMU are the memorycards of the DC, they are not affected by the PAL NTSC situation.

Wow, just played a bit og Guilty Gear X and there must be somethign wrong with my copy because:
- Very long loading times (about 5-10 seconds+)
- Lack of music when battling (could just be Dreamcast's fault, my capcom vs marvel 2 music don't really work as well.
- Whenever i choose the big bulky muscley guy, the game crashes (oh dear!)
other than that, Guilty gear is a fun little skillful game, the assassin guy is my fave, he is so damn fast!
maohayato

Ok i just tried the guilty gear X from the thc torrent. in chankast it has no music whatsoever. I then burned a copy on cd with alcohol. in my dc it had only one bgm and that was at the character select screen. soundtest didn't give me any sound.

you can get a helluva lot of dc games from emuparadise.org, dcforums and since supr killed herself, exeem looks pretty promising (when it's ****ing stable)
or just bug some hongifre posters to seed what they posted 'til they do.
i'm working on getting a seeded torrent of mr driller (sound or no sound), guilty gear 1 or 2.
my samba de amigo post here works fine on chankast. you may need to ptach it before it works on dc.
i have around 40 burned dc games, all of which work on my pal dc (

For those of you who would like access to pretty much every DC game ever released you should do the following.
Pick up a copy of DC++
http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/
Learn how to use it. It's easy... Pretty much enter your IP, and if you're firewalled make sure you click on passive. Share directories with games or stuff you wish to contribute.
Join one of the following two hubs.
pgh.no-ip.com
or
yamiyugi.dyndns.org:412 (currently down)

PS, Try to bring a few DC games to share. Share the stuff you get from other users.

The hub just went up, and it is for fairly advanced users.
For those just getting started a better hub might be.
classicsega.homeunix.com
Ask questions, learn how to use the program, and then move on when you've run out of stuff to get there.
If you do come into PGH though you can right click on my name and hit (send private message). I'll try to help as best I can.
As for nearly every dreamcast release. Well I'll post my list, although I only share the most rare stuff because of HD limits.

wise man...
irc is good too.
well....good may b pushing it.
if you know the right places, it's excellent.
i dislike dc/dc++ (for now), and emule and kazaa and whatever else.
simply find/make a great torrent site. you can't just leech...rip your own games and contribute.

Hot. DAMN.
<bows head in respect>
I am not worthy of your DC List.
I'm glad to see DC fans here. PSO was awesome, even on dial-up.
Virtua Tennis and 4 players made an INSTANT game night. Add SC, Power Stone 2, Samba de Amigo, Third Stike and we'd play all day.
<sigh>
Oh man, share that list... I may need to get this DC++ thing :) I so want alll those games XD you made me reallllly jealous ^^
You guys inspired me to clean up my old DC and buy new stuff for it :) I remember winning one of the first american DC's in a contest somewhere, in the DC official magazine^^ I was so hyped, until then I got a PS2 :O (about a few years after, tho).... Now I'm discourage to find my VMU batteries dead (must get new batteries!) and a few games (where did they go~~~~) and to find more stuff (OMG burned games roxx0rs plus the blue contrllers and VMUs :) )
DC now ranks over anything...^^ I guess I'm content for life with my little DC, PS2, PC, and a ol' SNES (and Gameboy ADV) XD~

don't worry, i did a reburn with that and the game loads faster and the big muscley guy doesn't crash DC.
no BGM makes me sad though, oh well, cool game!
EDIT: Blibero: make a spreadsheet/excel document and type your games there, then attach it on HF. That is a seriously good list though!

Hit settings (second last box)
Make sure you put your propper IP in the IP box.
http://www.whatsmyip.org/
Or you have a firewall up in which case you should hit the passive button. However passive users can only get active users lists. If there is a little wall under their icon you won't be able to dl from them.
If you still can't get a search or a list, then you might be running a piece of software that is preventing it. For instance I use the latest Norton Antivirus and it has worm protection which I have to shut off to use DC++.
Hope that helps. Good Luck.

blibbero those are the links with cdi files of king of fighters games??
Supposedly, but since they don't come from me I can't vouch for how good they are.
Actually what I was looking for was the Jeff Ma King of Fighters 3-1 multidisc. There used to be an http site that hosted all of Jeff's stuff, but it seems to be gone. But I found those when I was looking.
Anybody who just wants common english DC releases just google the name and the word torrent and I'm sure you stand a good chance of finding what you need. My stuff is only for insane collector who has to have every DC game ever released. I actually only share rare titles. Things you won't find on most torrent sites.

blib, is there an-easy-to-use dc++ place that has all 4 sakura taisen games?
edit: i've gotten used to the prgramme now and can find my way around PGH. I just have this one problem: I'm trying to dl Tech Romancer from someone and it says no slots available. What does that mean and how can I fix it?
No slots available means they are using their current amount of slots - ie too many people downloading from him.
Think of DC++ like IRC.. think 'no slots avaiable' as a QUEUE :)
Thanks blib, so much... I finally have downloaded 30+ GB of Dreamcast games and it's still growing! Goosey also has sooooooooooooo much :O it's insane how much he has!!! And he also resetup sega palace so it's all good 8-)
Remember... (if it's still around, haven't checked) #Echelon at EFNET would work too (many releases from them :D am too lazy to check their channel on IRC).
Cheers~^^ so much fun again :)

Not sure if anyone said this already, but I don't really have the time to read through 11 pages so here it goes. Kind of a moot point now, but it still quite sad that the Dreamcast actually stood a chance this generations console race. Though sales were poor after the initial release, during sony's shortage with the ps2 upon its own release, DC sales rebounded. There are market analyst willing to argue that Sega simply bailed out of the race too early. Working at a Video Game Chain(Gamequest), I tend to believe that, since in a funny/scary twist, in my experience, I've sold more dreamcast systems(more used than new), games(used and new) and accessories(you'd be surprised at the amount of people that come in looking for vmus, fishing rods, and maracas) than most gamecube things in general.

I still play my dc at least a couple of times a week. I don't think it's ever sat there and collected dust in the six years I've had it. It's a great tool for learning Japanese, with games like Napple that have just basic kanji.

A wealth of existing software, some of the bizarrest peripherals ever, a lot of room for creativity.
Second to none in therms of homebrew coding (coders cable + pc and the usual nightmare to set up environment)
Complete lack of a Z-buffer :/
Still has a very strong fan base. and develpment team devoted to it.

Soul Calibur was my first DC game and it blew me right away(and is still my favorit). Another great game, to me, is Sonic Adventire 2, really cool and fast gameplay. I also enjoyed Streetfighter 3, esspecially with friends. And Resident Evil: Code Veronica is still great, too.

Marvel vs Capcom 2, when it was all the rage, I hated playing in the arcade, there was never a time it was free, and I would always get aerial raved (air combo) to death. Thanks to the DC, I got to practice and play in arcades, but then no one was playing it anymore...
Its got CvS 1 and 2, Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, Rival Schools 2, Soul Calibur, Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, it was just awesome for fighting games, if the controller didn't hurt your hand after a couple hours gaming. They should've stuck to the Saturn pad controller, or something similar.

Geez, this was an example. There r no such processors. Again: only because, like the guy said, the XBOX processor has more megahertz, it doesn't mean it's better as a 'blabla' processor with like 100mhz less.
Apple called it "the megahertz myth" once. Mhz and Ghz- all r just numbers and don't say much about how well a processor will actually perform. Just look at AMD processors- they r faster in games as their Intel counterparts, though they have less megahertz (~1Ghz ;) )

Wow, the DC rules. In my opinion the Dreamcast is the greatest console ever. I was never really too big into games...but i do really like this one. :D
I just remember all the great games i played on it; Phantasy Star Online, Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio, Soul Calibur, Skies Of Arcadia, Power Stone, Shenmue,...the list goes on. :)
Some of favourite games were made on that little white machine. It's sad that nobody does games like Sega do anymore... :( Plus my Dreamcast broke. Now i can't play those games anymore...and i can't even download it because my computer is real lame...and wouldn't be able to play Dreamcast games...

back then the dc was known as the supreme fighting game system. aside from all the fighters, the games which particularly stood out for myself would be jet set radio, ikaruga, phantasy star, skies of arcadia and afew others which escape my memory at the moment.
