IMO they were both a bit overrated.
Halo2 was too much the same as halo. (especially storywise), and HL2 was a bit....how do I say this...well, it was all in a straight line, not much freedom and I've rarely seen an fps with such a low variety of enemies. (like 7 of them in total? where some of them was almost the same)
That said, they were perhaps fairly good, but none were 10/10 in my book.
