worse game ever created on pc? HELL YEA!
really this game is boring, both kotor and kotor 2 are the same, even the story looks the same, for me only jedi academy was the best of the star wars history, as for rpg, i stay on final fantasy, saga frontier and so on =P

For me, KoTOR II doesn't have the appeal that KoTOR I had. There's something about the game that just feels out of place. There's a lot of plot holes and bugs, too. Although Obsidian tried to make it good, it just doesn't have the production values as the original.
Combat
Ugh. They did something wrong here. The simplicity of the combat is gone, and now you're thrown in with too many things to do. And there's way too many battles now. They said in an early press release that they wanted to have multiple enemy combat as a focus in the game. I think they overdid it too much. At times, it's your three group members against let's say, 3 sith lords, 4 beasts, and 3 gunners. Maybe throw in a few gun turrets here and there. There's only so much you can do before your group starts to drop like flies. And yes, there are many options to get out of battle like disabling turrets via computers, but still, you have to eventually fight your way through some insane crap.
The combat is much more fun than the first, but only by a small margin. There's a prestige class you can get (much like NWN), so that was fun. More force powers and stances. You can even become a bare handed combat Jedi. Kinda funny how someone weilding a two-bladed lightsaber can get their butt kicked by an unarmed person, lol. But there's a reason behind the madness. It's not the weapon the person weilds, but rather the skill. Whatever.
Sound
There's waaaaay too much voice acting in the second one as well. The overwhelming voices in the second one just went overboard. The first one had the right amount of everything, and was much more balanced as far as overall game is concerned. This one drags on and on. And dialogue is way too involving as well. Depending on the choices you make, you get the following results. But it's basically do or die this time around. It's heavily emphasized, which makes the game too complicated.
The music is bleh. It's basically old rehashed movie soundtracks that came from the 1970's Star Wars movies. What else did you expect? In KoTOR I, they used different ambient tracks for different locales and what not. In the second game, they got very lazy and just used movie sound tracks. Again, about those production values...
Graphics
They improved on the game engine this time around. You can get armor (jedi robes) that have entrails now. Everything isn't just a pasted exoskeleton on the player much like the first. There's all-new effects to compliment the plethora of combat skills as well. Nothing amazing, but done good enough. There's plenty of outdoor enviornments, which make the game look amazing - Dxun is crazy! You're not going to get a new generation game engine here, folks. It's all just a rework of the old KoTOR engine (game is a few years old now), so they had their limits.
Overall, it's not a bad game. It just feels more like a 4 CD expansion pack of the original. There's just this nagging feeling in the back of my head about this game. There's a lot of things actually, lol. But to each their own I guess.
Oh. And for those having issues with ATi videocards, either use the older 4.2 catalyst drivers (even the 4.11 will help with crashes), if there's a problem. The reason why I mention this is because if you're not using the older drivers, the "bloom" effect from the lightsources in the game are gone.
Also, you can add this in your swkotor2 ini file in your installation directory. Under [Graphic Options], add: Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
That seems to fix issues with the game and ATi cards. I'm going to get an NVidia card next time around because I'm just tired of this driver crap I have to go through with ATi cards. And before anyone tells me I'm an NVidia fanboy, you can shove it. I've owned both cards, so I'm smart enough to make my own decisions. Keep your comments to yourself. :p

I agree. Some missions are really a drag, and it made me not want to finish them. The one I hated the most was Nar Shadaa. I HATE the refugee area. Who the hell designed that map? It's sooo irritating. It's just a bunch of freaking boxes with doors on them.

Sure thing! :) Even if you got a stable driver version that's able to run KotOR 2, you're still missing a LOT of effects. Back when I had my GeForce Ti4200 card, I was loving all of the eye candy in the game. Shortly there after, I got my ATi card. Although the card flys on Direct 3D games with full AA and AF, the opengl sucks pretty bad. I was still in the middle of my KotOR 1 game and I noticed right away. For instance, HK-47's eyes don't have the glow no matter what ATi driver version you use. I thought I had a bad driver version, but I tried about 10 different drivers. All failed with no effects to be seen anywhere. Even after a fresh format.
Not to bad mouth ATi cards, but the support for them suck really bad. I don't just play games, I also work on my PC. Since I use opengl engines for my work (rendering and editing post production stuff), I can really feel the performance hit on an ATi card. :( Multiple monitor support sucks, and it's just more hassle than it's worth.
Again, I'm not siding with NVidia. Just letting off a little steam. I love both cards for what they can do, but it seems that ATi drivers get worse as they release more drivers. I still can't get AA to work on The Longest Journey, and the developers said it's not their fault, it's ATi's. ATi cards can't render 16 bit games or something like that, so 90% of the older games (that still rock) are totally unplayable.

Well, i finally finished this game over the weekend, all in all took me 28 hours of straight gaming to finish and at the end i was really disapointed.
Game play wise its better than the first, as is the character development. And i love the new work bench allowing you to make your own upgrades, not to mention that there are loads more of customisations for weapons available.
However i felt the game didnt have the feel of the original, which while a bit slow to start was pretty amazing when you got going. As were the different options, going down the dark side or light, and draging Bastila with you :)
I loved the development available between the chars, especialy with Bastila, romance always makes for fun stuff in games.
However the romance elements of KotOR 2 were dry and not really thought out properly, at the end i had all 4 women loving my char, but there was no smooch scene like in the first. All in all i thought it a bit dry and uninteresting.
Then there was the final 2 main fights, first against Sion. This fight was pathetically easy, and i was really disapointed about how he always failed will saves for battle meditation, and then gives up so easily, just cause i tell him to.
Then there's the fight with the old woman, which again was just pathetic. I massacred her dual weilding lightsabers, hiting for between 60 and 80 damage on each hit. At the end of the first 'round' i'd already wiped out nearly half her HP.
Then there's the choice time. She gives you 4 choices, leave with your friends as a jedi, leave on your own and go into exile again, leave and follow Revan to fight the true sith, or stay at the academy to train those that follow (basicly become a sith lord). Yet no matter which option you choose you get exactly the same cut scene, which is just lame.
I loved the ending of the first, where you see 2 completely different cut scenes depending on how you go, if you went dark you got a scene of you lording over the new sith with a whole fleet of ships, if you went light there was a cut scene of all the friends on the planet throwing a party.
Its a good game, and one worth playing, if only for the new look GUI and weapons and stuff.
I didnt think much of the prestige classes, since you only get 4 or 5 levels at best, as for the lightsaber forms, i dont think i used them even once.
Ahhhh well, not long now for Jade Empire :)

I kinda agree. The game was really good and all that, but the end was kinda dissapointing. You didn't really get to select like you did in the first one (where I of course decided to choose bastila :p)
It was also a slight dissapointment that the graphics were exactly the same as in the first. Though as I started to get into the game, it didn't really matter that much anymore.
All in all, a recommendable game, though not perfect.
Wonder if there will be a KotOR 3 :)

i never used the lightsaber fors to be honest, never relised much difference in them. All in all i enjoyed the game apart from the last few fights. I loved the conversations that went on, especialy with the handmaiden and Keria, those were fun.
Lets have some iodeas for KotOR 3, here are a few of mine.
carrying on from the dismal end of 2, so its more of an expansion.
You get a choice of 3 starting points, either you went off with your friends and became a sort of jedi (lets face it, your not giving up the babes :P), your mission now is to defeat the remain wanabe sith, and get things ready for when the real sith invade which happens later in the game.
You decided to follow Revan, so you head into the unknow regions (with the ebon hawk since its been there before, and that little droid whose name i can never remember), where you eventualy either meet or save Revan, join up and begin a new adventure against the real sith.
Or you stayed Malachor and become a Sith Lord anddo evil things like wipe out the remaining Jedi and stuff.
Or you start as Revan and return to ready the Republic (or the wanabe sith) for the coming of the real sith.

BTW, my character is lvl 32 (15 in Jedi Sentinel + 17 Jedi Watchman) without any cheating, how about your ?

It was just not appealing to me when I finished it. Usually when a game is good, it stays with my collection of awesome games and stuff. The others I sell. After I was done with it, I uninstalled it and was off to the store in less than 10 minutes to sell it for store credit. There's just so many unoriginal and uninspiring parts of the game. Bleh. :p
I just finished it,but the ending was rather a dissapointment,it's the same mistake as is in KOTOR 1 ,great gameplay, interaction between character, but the ending sucks,I hope too that KOTOR 3 will be better.I think that in that part we will play as Jedi and there be a conflict between main character from KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2.I ended game with Jedi Guardian 18 level and Sith Lord 11 level.

This game was overall speaking "good" :) , some parts of the game was really interesting such as Onderon as u get to fight in an all out war. However, there is lots of glitches in the game (i played it on pc) and every now and then i got kicked out as having encountered an error and thus causing me to lose all the data without prior warning, this frustrated me a lot!! The character models was also not given much improment.
1 last thing, matbe it's just me hallucinating, the combat system is MUCH more easier than the previous game. (in KoToR 1, when i got 6 sith masters, 8 sith troopers and a bunch of turrets to back them up, i'm dead meat in seconds!! However, in KoToR 2, when i got about twice the amount of enemies charging at me, THEY are dead meat in seconds!!!-- i'm using a jedi consular, it took a force wave and several force storm and they are gone!!) This game has it's pros such as the new 2nd class system and party influence system, it also contain a whole lot of new force powers and weapons!! Thus, i recommend this game. :)
This game was RUSHED out the door.
Dissppointing how the last planet MalacoreV was an unfinnished mess.
Though the for the most part a great and very cool game

yeah, but if you all who haven't play the game, i suggest to play on hard mode, it'll provide some more thrill then in normal, and again how about swoop racing, anyone here have some records ?

If you really think this game is "good", then how about reconsidering? :p
They obviously left out the real endings of the game because of time constraints. Now that's just pure ass. There's a huge online uproar because of this (check out the LucasArts forums for KoTOR2), and you'll see what I mean. The files are even on the insallation disks! WTF!
I have lost all faith in Obsidian. They usually make sequels for games, counting on how popular the game was prior to their release. They basically take the same game, add little "touches" to it, and try to make cash from it. That's just plain lazy in my book. I'm tired of these damn devs taking people's hard earned cash and pointing the finger at the publishers. Whatever.
Troika down. Who's next? ROFL!

played for a bit but its not as interesting as the first kotor. Black Isle is good, but Bioware is a step above everyone in the RPG department.

KOTOR II boasts better graphics, more powerful force abilities and better lightsaber plays...at least i think so...
A great RPG but the first one did a better job, the story-line is so much better than the second one...KOTOR II's story is so damned long that it ended up a bit draggy...and at the last stage in malachor...u got so strong that a bunch of sith assasins are just free exp points...
I'm happy that the developers did not turn their heads to turn-base (like those in ff series) combat...don't get me wrong i kinda like turn-base combat but why can't they stay in a fight like KOTOR rather than run all the way to an enemy...hit the fella once...then run all the way back again...

I was kinda disappointed during the end game of KOTOR 2.. they 'cut' lotsa stuff out of the game.. luckily though, there's a team of programmers putting them back together.. KOTOR 1 was great!.. I think its one of the nicest star wars rpg out there.

KOTOR 2 was definitely a so/so in my book. I absolutely loved KOTOR so I bought number 2 when it came out for PC and was pretty leet down. My favorite moment in the original was teh realization that you were Revan. That blew me away. KOTOR2 never really had a "moment" for me. It was just there. And it was L O N G. My char hit level 24 and I still didn't feel like I was getting anywhere. And I know there are prestige classes but how do you get to them? I hit 100% dark-side around level 11 and still had no option to go prestige by 24. And hoo boy was Force Scream overpowered. In early to mid game, that power owned everything.

kotor 2 is ok...
but how to gain the second or prestige class??
i beat the game twice, the first time with a jedi guardian, and on the sec. with a consular, i gain the force "force crush", but never get prestige!?

Knight of the Old Republic 2 didn't impressed me much.
The storyline is, as usual "KICKASS good!" as expected from Starwars series. But the gameplay didn't improved much from KOTOR 1, even the graphic engine was almost a dublicate, the fighting system makes Jedi fights look like kids training with wooden sticks, they looks so ridiculous.
KOTOR 3 is on the way, I've heard the maker already started the project before KOTOR2 was even completed. Hope they are not gonna update the graphic and fighting system this time as badly as they did on KOTOR2.

You have to talk to the old lady on board the ship and she will ask you what do you want to become, a weaponmaster, jedi master etc. Not sure after what missions that was though but at least its with her :).
As for the game it wasnt bad but some stuff was missing and too many bugs indeed. Other then that i kind of enjoyed it although the ending was uther crap.

I love KOTOR 1 and 2. But its true. It was obviously rushed. It have lots of bugs and glitches. Incredible Frame Rate problems. But for some reason. I like it better than Kotor 1. Its was more enjoyable gameplaywise. The tiny bit they added in gameplay was actually kind of cool. The story kicks ass. The major problems of Kotor 2 were Techinical. And the crap ending cus they cut the real one :(
The graphics tho are realy bland in this one :(
Its more easy aswell. But...i dunno...i just had more fun playing it. I beat Kotor 1 just once. And this one twice.
