Have you guys already watched the chinese movie, "Hero". Jet Lee is in this film but I think many people will be surprised. Is a super production, very poetic, really beautiful.

And if you already watched... Did you enjoyed the way the separete the "versions" of the story by collors? I just think it was fantastic! So wonderfull!!

It was a gorgeous film. In the beginning it appeared to be straightforward, however well-choreographed, period action movie, but after several flashback sequences it was clear that there was both touching character development and clever storytelling at work. I did love the way the story was told through the fights, and how they reveal that there may be fiction in the main character's story. It was a movie I'd love to see again, especially if I could see it in another theater, because the scale and the scenery are huge and fantastic. The director's more recent work, House of Flying Daggers, takes a different approach to storytelling, but is no less amazing or complex. On a related note, Zhang Zyi, who's been in Crouching Tiger, Hero, and stars is House of Flying Daggers, is amazing to watch. She's a convincing actress, and has been a great fighter in all three films. She's also stunningly beautiful and charismatic, and I hope to see her in more films.

Hm.... Hero, better than House of Flying Daggers, but worse than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

I'm all for style, but this was too much. Fantastically beautiful, but nothing else.

I actually liked Hero better than CTHD and HoFD. Anyone watch the director's cut?

I thought Hero was way better than CTHD and HoFD was garbage

I've seen better. I thought Romeo Must Die/Lethal Weapon 4/Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon were better.

Truthfully, I thought it was a pile of crap.
It wasn't Jet Li's best performance.

I couldn't appreciate the "beauty" of it. All I saw was "beauty."

Personally found the characters a bit '2d' and the fights too artistic. I hated CTHD when I first saw it but grew to like to through multiple viewings. HOFD is good for 3/4 of the way but the far-fetched ending sequence ruined it.

i thought Hero was a great movie, but I know there's a score of people out there who wasnt impressed by the movie either. i dont understand why, but people either really like or dislike the movie. that being said, the way the stories were interpretted was really topnotch imo, but i also enjoyed how they integrated historical elements into the story (if you know some pre-Chinese history, there is some small hints dropped from place to place) and how everything flowed so well.

but that being said, i need to now watch Lovers, just recently released in Japan.. same style as HDCT and Hero

I'd have to agree with horondo. I think it gets to the point where the movie is just too full of those pretty pictures, as if it's trying to be like a music video. That's not all to cinematography, unlike this director seems to think. I enjoyed CTHD much more for its depth, and its usage of those "pretty pictures" in more fitting places.

hero is F*CKLOADS better than house of flying daggers ^_^

the ONLY thing wrong with hero was that he died at the end..

house of flying daggers was ( i admit) a beautiful film, even despite having watched a poor HK-dvd version months before release...

but i stand true to hero, and "what a film...."

I would of been happy with HOTFD if I had only watched half of it
the second half just killed the whole thing for me. Hero on the other hand I absoultly loved it

I loved this movie but I liked CTHD more. I like the visual style of the movie. I find it neat how the fights have different themes. Probably my favorite scene was the showdown between Broken Sword and the emperor. I saw this movie two months before it was in the theater. My friend Wes had an import DVD of it. From what I can remember the subtitles were slightly different though. The funny thing is... the import version was already subbed in English so I don't see why they would bother redoing it. From what I can remember... it was like 95% the same. One change that irks me though is... they changed "all under heaven" to "our land". I personally felt it was more powerful as "all under heaven". Also I think the emperors speach when he looks at the caligraphy is slightly different too but I can't remember for sure. I guess it was altered just enough so someone could get a paid for changing some dialogue.

If anyone here has the import version... can you quote the emperor when he looks at the wall scroll?

Hero is a good movie.
Everything is good but the story is poor.

Everything about this movie is beautiful. I know that many people were not satisfied with the movie. I think that more people like more action then just talk. Well, like what aejiras said about if you know some pre-Chinese history. The emperor was one of the most hated and corrupted rulers in history, but left a great mark in history in China and in history books. As you know that he completed the Great Wall of China and each of his soldiers resemblences were on each of the statues under the Great Wall.

Spoilers Ahead!!!!!

There was one big thing why he didn't kill the emperor when he had the chance. During that time, if I was a citizen in China I would like to kill him too, but no one can go as close as 10 feet? and no weapons allowed too. The role jet li played in was probably the only person that can come up so close to kill him and yet didn't, even when he had the chance to do so. There is that big reason why he didn't do so and as an audience watching this you are like wtf? This is part of what makes this movie beautiful. As for the other movies to compare to this is history.

I would probably put up a torrent for Hero, for all of you Hero lovers out there, I liked it too, but not a 10/10...I'd give it an 8.5

But back to the torrent. It would be illegal for me to put it up anyways, and it would probably be illegal for me to copy it on DVD and sell it/send it to you's peoples.

I would love to share this movie, but I don't want to spend a quarter of million $$$$ just to share a movie.

Unless you all really, really, REALLY want it.

I have the HK extended version so didn't see it in theaters, so I didn't get the full impact. That made me a bit sad since I really liked this movie. (I saw a ripped copy then bought the movie before it came to the states. However, when I was in theaters, I couldn't spare any time to go see it.)

Unlike CTHD, which I liked but thought it was immensely overrated, I found Hero much more of an art-house flick than the action movie that CTHD was supposed to be, which is something I enjoyed quite a bit. I know that the movie style with all the colours wasn't original, but I rather liked it paired with the story. I especially liked that "all under heaven" ending, which I thought changing to "our land" was a bit in poor taste.

Overall, I really liked this movie. I haven't really seen the extras in a while, but I think it may be possible to put up the extras for it without running into any trouble since my extras are the HK ones, not the US ones. I'll try to do that when the torrent forums go back up (and provided there's interest in it).
