Yeah, I played it and already beat it with two clans. You should really go with melee, it's a lot better than guns, but it's also fun to try with guns. I think you get the automatic shot-gun from that ghoul you help out in the beginning in the game (where he is all bleeding and stuff), I can't remember specifically.

I think when you are first able to go to Hollywood, you can get it from Mercurio.

Really a great game. Good story, nice ending(s) and good characters and dialog.

Just loved beeing a Malkavian, with all those sick replies and dementation dialogs. :p

As for the automatic shotgun: You can buy it from mercurio (that's "fleetfooted god" in malkavian :D) if you promise him not to tell LaCroix about his secret after you have met with the prince in downtown. At least I think it was that way. Not sure if you can buy it in Hollywood or Chinatown, but it might be the case.
Personally I went with both melee and ranged. Katana was quite handy against vampires and such, while flamethrower was excellent against bosses. Not to forget the magnum, the lassiter killmatic and the sniper.

Some nice weapon comments in the game too:

"Sledgehammer
Great for getting all those annoying songs out of your mind. And everything else for that sake"

"Axe
Truly the weapon of a madman. Who else would attack fires with an axe?"

lol yeah i really like the comments on the weapons too....

how funny was it when u convinced the russian mafia to shoot each other?

That was a real nice one. First convincing the thug on the street to attack his two goonies, then convince the mob boss that his lifeguard was conspirating against him, and make him attack the guard (carrying a SMG) with his .38. Gee, I wonder who won ;)

And not to forget when you convince the friend from when you was alive that you was her pet turtle, that she had flushed down the toilet...

I'd enjoy it more if my machine could handle it without any major slowdown. Other than that, the game definitely rocks. I'm also Malkavian.

Oh yeah, that SWAT rifle, yeah you just help Mercucio out and he'll sell it too you later on along with an excellent pistol, flamethrower and such. The *coughcough* heavy calibre perscription guy in Chinatown also has one in stock eventually.

I played as Ventrue first time through :p. Interesting class to play as, very nice suits and the Dominate ability kicks ass, just bypass the arguing or getting shot at; "~@.@~ You will forget about the money" bwaha. Trance was invaluable too, for all of 1 blood point it stops an enemy in their tracks, they can't spot you since they're not with it and make for some free and easy bloodsucking. Important for Ventrue too since their eating habits are a little more reserved, for In-Character value I never attacked a bum or prostitute with the Ventrue character. Made the descent into the Nosferatu caves a little harder since I couldn't snack on rats along the way, definetly one place I got into using ranged weaponry :p. Though indeed as had been said, ranged weaponry isn't as good as melee, one of the few indescrepencies they needed to fix up, cause until you get the Colt Magnum, there's nothing worth holding or shooting at that you couldn't just slash or sneak upto, even if your stealth was at 1 :p. An then later on blades do more aggravated damage to vampires against weaponry so there's even less reason, lol.

Hell on my first game I attacked that first Quei-jin in Santa-Monica with a .38 pistol against his crossbow and katana. Got him down eventually, after much swearing and re-loads :p but second game (with the likely weaker Tremere vampire) I ran in with a knife an cut the crap out of him, no challenge.

My favorite clan has to be Tremere for their Thaumaturgy, Blood Boil can only be appreciated at fullest when it's in an enclosed space with more than one enemy. Beautiful in it's own sickening way :p. An Blood Shield has to be one of the best, and most visually appealing defensive moves, specially with all the damned creepy whispers you hear when it's first activated.

Excellent plot and characters too, I'd say Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodline sis my favorite game, it certainly makes better use of the Source engine than half-Life 2 did :p glitchy bugs or no, you actually feel something more than "checkpoint 5" over the characters in Vampire. Specially VV, she was worryingly cool, even if her skin did sometimes glitch out and make her look like Marilyn Manson from Mechanical Animals :p

Tried the following:
Malkavian: coolest when it comes to the socialskills. dementation is pretty neat, although it can be weak against supernaturals. the obfuscate is also quite handy

Tremere: kickass magic, that also is quite potent against supernaturals. dominate is also handy

Toreador: pursuade and seduce. Celerity is really one of the most efficient combatskills in the game IMO. presence can be ok when there are strong enemies about.

Only thing that got quite annoying was the long loading times. But that was more due to the computer than the game.

I feel a bit euphoric bringing this thread out of the dusty archives, but I still play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines to this day. It's never really lost it's flair to me and due to the number of mods out there that have made it even better it will never die. It's been a long time since I've seen a thread on this game.

So....I pose the question that this thread asked so many years ago. Does anyone still play Bloodlines to this day?

I own it, and it's collecting dust, perhaps I should dust it off and play again though, it was a great game and I never did beat it. I got to the very last part of the game and then the computer I was using fried out and I was without a computer for a while. I kind of forgot about the game after that because I had to catch up on the internet.
