Pentium DC has 167 million transistors not 55,7. 1 MB of L2 cache itself has about 50 milion transistors ;)

If it's mainly for work why the locale is set to Japan? :crafty:

And it's a pretty heavy gaming rig rather than "just for work".... O_O 1 GB is more than enough for just normal office work.

djricekcn
10-04-2009, 12:17 PM
It's not for normal work, it's for Video Editing and Authoring, including High Definition. High Definition stuff, you need at least 4 GB to work comfortably and the 8 core's for rendering and processing helps a lot. If it's just a gaming a rig, I wouldn't need 12gb of ram since no games uses even half that at the moment (aren't most games still recommended 2gb?)

Also, these are definitely not for gaming:
Black Magic Intensity Pro
DeckLink HD Extreme
SONY HVR-M35U HD

Also, Japanese because, I use Japanese for work and I'm also Japanese so I type in Japanese? It's not 100% for work, but maybe 80% of the time it is. The other 20% is gaming on my free time...which is what the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 sli is mainly for ;)

hope that clears it up =3

Ah sorry, here most people are not Japanese, and mostly use JP locale only for compatibility with eroge, so I misunderstood :sweatdrop:

And most games recommend 2 GB, but for ultra-high settings you might need a GB or 2 more than that.

I want x64 7 for the extra RAM, but am worried about compat :(

If you're running Vista already, upgrading to 7 is a must. Also, if you have 4gb of ram or more on a XP, upgrading to 7 is a must too. If you have have 4gb and below, just update to x86 since x64 wouldn't be useful at all. If you do go for x64, I recommend getting Professional or Ultimate.

Edit: Remember that UPDATING is not recommended for Windows unlike a Mac. For Windows Operating System, it is highly recommended that you do a CLEAN INSTALL (in other words, wiping out every single data).

I already AM running the 7 Ultimate x86 RC :P (And it's pretty stable for a RC, even tho has some known bugs harmful for specific hardware). It's faster than XP on a machine with quad core and 3 GB (best I can have on a x86, another GB and I'll be wasting RAM), and runs DX10 games faster than their DX9 versions.

And of course, I wouldn't go for Vista, until 7, XP served me best. And this RC has spoiled me... now I'll settle for nothing less than Ultimate, legal or otherwise :tears:

well, if you only have 3gb of ram, there is no point of getting x64 at all. You wouldn't even take an advantage of the OS and it might even screw things up due to the settings (probably not, but you can never be to sure). Also, if you're running RC, remember to upgrade or disable the RC. If you google, you can find ways of upgrading RC to Official. RC expires around March 2010

I know that, I have 4 months after the DVD version comes out, right now I'm taking it easy...

That's the deal, I want extra RAM but before that I need x64, but I wonder if it will screw the compatibility... The Batman AA issues with x64 Vista/7 scared me a bit, even though it's fixed now.

OCZ GameXStream 600W Power Supply
2x 1TB WD Caviar Green (Storage/Backup)
1x 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 (Primary)
1x 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 (Backup)
LG SATA 22x DL Lightscribe SecurDisk DVD Burner
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro PCIe
Creative Gigaworks s750 7.1 Channel 700W Computer Speakers
Samsung Syncmaster T240, 24" Widescreen LCD
Logitech Trackman Wheel
Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard
Wacom Intuos 2 9x12 Professional Tablet
Hitachi 51" 1080i/720p Rear Projection HDTV (for watching all the Anime I have collected)
Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan (for when I watch stuff on my TV)
Yamaha Natural Sound AV Receiver (6.1 Channel 660W, DTS-ES, Dolby Digital-EX) hooked through JVC Speakers and 8" 100W Yamaha Subwoofer (again, for watching all that Anime)

Swapped around the two Seagate Drives in attempt to up my Windows 7 Experience Index HDD score when I replaced the motherboard/RAM, had no effect on the score:

Windows 7 Experience Index Scores:
Processor: 7.4
Memory (RAM): 7.5
Graphics: 7.3
Gaming Graphics: 7.3
Primary Hard Disk: 5.9 :notagain2:

My old Athlon X2 5400+ CPU, Asus M3N78 Pro Motherboard, eVGA GeForce 9800GT Superclocked Edition Video Card and 4GB Mushkin HP2-6400 (DDR2 800) RAM will be going into my primary server computer to upgrade it from the existing parts: Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton Core overclocked as a 3000+), Asus A7N8X-X, BFG 7300GT 512MB DDR2 and 2GB Kingston PC3200 (DDR 400) RAM. Those parts, in turn, will be moved to my old server case to replace the existing Athlon XP 2600+ (Thoroughbred Core), cheap Elite Group Motherboard, 1GB PC2700 (DDR 333) RAM and MSI GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDR3. The old parts will get thrown aside to be ready as spares if any of my other older system parts fail.

[edit 24/11/2009]
Replaced the SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro soundcard in my workstation with a SB X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro PCIe soundcard. The Audigy is going into my server, which consists of:

Antec Plus1080AMG SoHo File Server Chassis w/5x 80MM fans
Antec TruPower Trio 430W Power Supply
AMD Athlon X2 5400+ Processor clocked at 3.0GHz
Asus M3N78-Pro socket AM2+ Motherboard
4GB Mushkin HP2-6400 (DDR2 800) RAM
eVGA GeForce 9800GT Superclocked Edition
Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro soundcard to replace the onboard Realtek HD Audio
Maxtor 200GB IDE HDD
HP 16x DL DVD+/-RW IDE Burner
Samsung Syncmaster 213T (21.3" 4:3 LCD, 1600x1200 Native resolution)
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro
Logitech Trackman Wheel
Speakers: need to dig out my old Cambridge Soundworks DT2500 5.1 Dolby Digital set to replace the Altec Lansing ACS45.1 (2.1 channel) speakers.

Windows 7 Experience Index Scores:
Processor: 6.1
Memory (RAM): 7.1
Graphics: 6.8
Gaming Graphics: 6.8
Primary Hard Disk: 5.3

Plenty fast enough computer to use as a secondary gaming system and server computer. W7 Index scores are misleading though, considering my main system is way faster in regular benchmarking applications such as PCMark Vantage, 3DMark Vantage/06, Sandra, etc.

[edited 27/12/2009 to change the overclock on my Workstation, been running it 3.4GHz @ 1.4375v the past month stable, as well as added one more 1TB WD Green HDD]

EVGA 680i Sli Motherboard nVidia nForce chipset

Same to you. Why? Let me break it down to you: someone posted a thread when he should have used the sticky instead. I warned him of that. Some mod/admin merged the threads. You didn't see that happen and jumped on the gun there. I explained it to you.

Now let's leave it be so that the thread gets back on its track, shall we? Gosh...

i dont think your rig can play crysis in full detail with those settings , you need more gpu power, and your cpu need to atleast be a quad since crysis needs all the computing power it can get, even though, crysis is gpu hungry, also, gpus are really cheap, 2 4770 in crossfire is about 208 and amd Phen x4 955 isn't so bad either, you may want to invest on a amd build as they are super cheap. :)

I have a weaker cpu and gpu and I can play Crysis on max settings with 1680x1050 res.

I have an amd x2 5200+ cpu and an 8800gt OC and 2 gigs of 800 mhz RAM. Built the computer in late 2007.

Sorry, but that is bullshit.
I also have an overclocked 8800GT and can barely pull off high settings on 1280x720 at any playable framerate.
It's also literally impossible to run Crysis on max settings with only 2GB of ram.

Max settings WILL clog your pipes, so to speak. It WILL run like shit.
It will also probably crash.

There's several things wrong with that video.
First off, it's a crappy camera recording of a screen, so it's hard to verify the resolution, graphics settings and framerate.
Secondly, it's just showing a guy looking out into the sky, so it's not even stressing the card to begin with.
Thirdly, it's still actually impossible to play through the game with only 2GB of RAM and 512MB vRAM on highest settings, as the game will need to make use of more in the more eventful scenes due to the high res textures and it'll eventually most certainly crash.

Stop telling obvious lies.

RyviusRan
03-02-2010, 12:07 PM
Nope I run the game just fine and The second crysis runs perfectly too.

I usually use a ram defrag which lowers my Ram usage to around 400-500 mbs and then the game will take the rest.

512vram is enough since the textures are not that high unless you are using the texture mod.

You may not be able to run crysis on those settings but I certainly can and it runs smooth.

Although I usually mod the config settings to get rid of unnecessary things with no loss in quality.

But even without the cfg mod I can run it perfectly fine.

Oh jeeze, I haven't thought about this kind of stuff in a while. Built new almost two years ago:

Intel Core 2 Quad (Q9450) at 2.67 GHz
EVGA nForce 780i motherboard
4 Gigs of DDR2 1066 GSkill RAM
Antec 650Watt PSU
PNY GeForce 9800 GTX
360 Gig 7200 RPM boot drive (Western Digital)
500 and 180 gig 5400 storage drives (Hitachi and Seagate)
All in the cheapest case I could find that had good ventilation (some Raidmax special Newegg had at the time)
Oh, and a cheap 19" Acer monitor, and a cheap "Dynex" (BestBuy special) 19" HDTV I dual screen onto

I've never had a problem, and it still does everything/plays every game I've tried. I see no need to upgrade for a while.

Assuming you are running windows, right click on the bar task bar and go to task manager (also available via Ctrl-Alt-Del, etc). Go to the processes tab and sort by CPU. Pick out the one or two with the highest values, those are probably the issue, and if you want to know what they are, post here, someone will be able to id them usually...

but i wonder why my computer usage always 100%

You probably know the rest of the information I will post, but I shall do it anyways :)
Could be a number of reasons, could be Malware, Viruses, Over-consuming Processess, Background programs. As Corelain has already suggested, CTRL-ALT-DELETE and check your Process tree, and see what is taking up CPU and Memory. Then, either post on here high consuming programs, and I'm sure somebody will help with telling you if they are needed. You could also search for them on Google or something, see if they are needed. Some may also be Viruses or Malware, run a Virus scanner and Malware scanner.

Avast Free Anti Virus:
http://www.avast.com/en-au/free-antivirus-download

Avira AntiVir Personal Free:
http://www.free-av.de/en/trialpay_do...antivirus.html

For Anti Malware

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

SuperAnti Spyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/

If there are over consuming processess, then even ending them might not solve the problem completely, some might have orders to start when you start up windows, so you'd need to go into the various places to edit them not to run on start up :P
You could also Defragment your HD's (Start Menu - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools) this could increase your speed.

Failing that, you could try a fresh install, back up everything you want to keep, then reinstall Windows. By the way, I assume you are running Windows and not Lolnux or Mac. But if you are, I suggest asking somebody who knows about said systems ^_^.

If anti-virus scans don't turn up anything, try uninstalling old programs through the control panel's add/remove programs list. If nothing works, formatting and a fresh OS install (after backing up all the important stuff) might give your computer new life.

Here's my PC that I built about 6 months ago.

He Is Telling The Truth,I Have Seen It Myself,He Has Shown It To Me Privately.(SOVEREIGN)Infinity Overlord Never Lies,As Far As I've Know Him All These 4 Years He Has Been In Hongfire,He Has Never Lied One Bit,So Please Leave Him Alone,There Is No Need For Him To Post Pictures Of His Pc Setup,Plus He Doesn't Need To Answer To The Likes Of Other Members Especially Newbies.Other Members Posted Their Pc Setup With or Without Pictures And Nobody Asked Them For Anything,So Why Should He Post Pictures,That Definitely Won't Be Fair To Him.If You Really Want To See It So Badly,Why Don't You Ask Him Very Nicely In Private,But I Don't Think He Will Answer To A Noob,He Doesn't Like To Talk,He Is A Very Quiet Person,And He Has Very Few Friends In Hongfire Eversince He Joined,Because Of His Cold Quiet Personality,I'm One Of The Only Few People He Talks To In Hongfire. So Just Be Quiet,Leave Him Alone And Believe In What He Says,That Is All.

Hey relax now, there is no need for you to write a essay,no one or i said anything about us not believing him. My dad has a 2x more powerful pc than i. im getting my 3rd 5870 in a few weeks and another one during Christmas, so its not hard to believe him. I have buffy parts as well. So relax, i just wanted to see how he could fit all of that into one case, becuz the level 10 is tall, but not wide. So again relax.

^^ you've got a nice mobo there, so you've got a ways to upgrade. looks like it takes quad core phenoms
And i've seen GTX 9800's on craigslist for 50-80 if you were to go SLI.... granted, i picked up a 260 OC a couple weeks ago for 65, but i think that was an exceptional find...
oh, just noticed you in scotland, is there a used gaming market there? welcome to the boards btw

Might as well update my specs.

Phenom II X4 B55 with a TX3 cooler@3.2 atm , but i oc to 3.6 sometimes, and i've got 3.8 stable without voltage or FSB changes
8gb DDR 1333
ga-880ga-ud3h
XFX radeon HD5850
win7 on a 500gb drive,
6Tb additional storage.
Antec 900

Maybe i'll get around to cleaning under my desk and snapping a pic sometime, seen one antec you seen em all...

the mobo actually sucks i think, the ram is in a position that stops me from being able to access one of the slots with my graphics card and it can only take some of the phenom cpu's (only like 4 or something) because it can only handle the low wattage versions.

My graphics card i love but it only allows me to play most modern games with medium settings, so that is probably the first thing i will be upgrading, replacing it will give me better specs that if i was to go dual sli.

in Scotland most stores don't have much of a pc games section, it's all mostly console stuff with a small corner having some new over priced pc games, as far as used hardware goes well i don't actually like to buy used hardware since i don't get any warranty .etc but we do have some monthly markets that sell that kind of stuff and there is always ebay. lol

I see you put your mobo as ga-880ga-udh3, i can't find anything about it did you maybe mean ga-880ga-ud3h ?

good to be here thanks. ;)

(Putting thread back on topic)

It's still running, and I now have a video card for it!

My updated rig from 2 years ago (and I'm bored):

AMD Sempron 3000+ (1.8GHz)
512MB RAM DDR2
Lightscribe DVD/CD Burner
19" Acer LCD monitor

(Don't ask about the rest of the specs, as really
there are none. Not even a video card).

That's all I got left. The laptop died.
GFX Card: Asus AH3450 (AGP 8x)

w00t \o/

Well now, I still have this same tower (and it's still running, mind you), but I
did purchase my laptop about a month ago:

Asus G74SX R.O.G. Edition
Intel Core i7 2630QM Processor
[Currently] 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM (12GB on it's way in the mail)
17.3" 1080p LED
750GB HDD
BluRay DVD Combo
1 x USB 3.0 port
3 x USB 2.0 ports
1 x HDMI
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 3GB GDDR5

this is exactly what my pc setup says

Processor - pentium dual-core cpu @ T4400 @ 2.20 ghz

Ram - 4.00Gb (3.25Gb usable)

System type - Windows 7 home premium 32 bit operating system

Processor ~ Intel - 2.4 gHz - Dual-core
RAM ~ 4.00 Gb
OS ~ Windows 7 32bit

pretty much a basic setup for gaming.. i have a wireless mouse and keyboard. pretty much used for gaming and surfing the web.

It's all relative.

I have a phenom quadcore 9600 2.3 ghz, 4 gigs of ram 2 250gig western digitals in raid0 and a 2gig radeon 4870.

I can play deus ex human revolution @ 1080p with settings on high but I do get some stutters.

Today a good setup would be one using the latest generation of intel or amd motherboards with a quad core, ssd drive, 8 gigs of ram, a flagship video card of either this generation or the last. . .And a monitor capable of high refresh rates so you dont get tearing from having too high of fps.

A very good setup would be an I7 rig with multiple ssd's in raid0, 12+ gigs of fast ram, either 2+ nvidia 580's or a radeon 6990, or two; on watercooling in either a lian li or silverstone case. . . One can dream.

HD 2 - 80 GB (Hitachi)

Win XP SP3

--

My PC used to be fairly good at games, back then in 2009 (When I updated it to its current form). Nowadays, it kind of sucks. But I can still play many recent games if I lower the resolution or details.

The newest game I got was Crysis 2. And I've played and completed it at 1280*720 (Just a bit smaller than my regular res, that's 1440*900), with minimum detail. Better than nothing, I guess.

This means, you can enjoy many years of great PC gaming with your rig if you aren't that pretentious.

Well, a quadcore would be more future proof, but a dualcore can be faster in some cases. For example if you compare the i3 2100 to a Athlon II X4 645, the i3 will be faster in some cases.

My PC config is very humble (compared with today), but still good enough for at least one more year.

Desktop
Board: Foxconn A6VMX
CPU: AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ ~2600MHz
RAM: 4GB DDR2
VGA: Nvidia GeForce 8600GT (512MB)
HDD: 250GB + 500GB + 160GB, all SATA
DVD-RW + card reader
17" LCD monitor (1280x1024)
Running Windows 7 32-bit and openSUSE 64-bit

Laptop
CPU: AMD Turion2 X2 ~2300MHz
RAM: 4GB DDR3
HDD: 500GB SATA
DVD-RW + card reader
14.5" screen (1366x768)
Running Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 2008 R2 and Arch Linux 64-bit

I think it's already time to begin the plans to build a new desktop.

Windows 7 Professional 64bit
MSI R5850-PM2D1G ATI Radeon HD 5850

ASUS VW266H connected on DVI

The most interesting upgrade in my next rig will be SSD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive)s as my current raid 5 is a bit slow. One for the OS, one for the swap. Sure, the swap will die early so I have to plan one extra as reserve.

o: got my laptop like half a year ago [after a part of the motherboard of my last one fried along with the screen, $750 to fix a 7 year old laptop? fk no (#゚Д゚) ]
was grieving over choosing this one and an alienware at the same price, (゚Д゚;≡;゚Д゚) but in the end performance beat aesthetics [since this one had better stuff in some aspects, but much more plain looking; so it was sorta hard to pick even with it being better, since the alienware looked soooo epic (≧ロ≦) ]

new laptop is the xps 1702x, the 3d one

ok so now i can't resist .. i build my new computer a month ago.

Mainboard : MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming
CPU: I7 4770K 3.50Ghz ,Corsair H80i Watercooling
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 270X ,4GB OC Gaming edition
RAM: 16 GB
HDD: 2 TB WD + 149GB Intell SSD
PSU: CS 750M Corsair
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64Bit

nothing overclocked yet , since it's so blazing fast i don't realy need to
And oh yeah.. i am using the MSI ramdrive and reserve 8 Gb of my memory as a drive , it's 100 times faster as an SSD and thinking of adding 16 GB more memory just for that
