NavyFIELD (www.navyfield.com) is an exciting game of controlling a ship during World War 2, and using mass teamwork, tactics, and good old fashioned skill to shove a torpedo into your enemies engine.
What is NavyFIELD? (excerpt from main page...cut out marketing spiel)
NAVY FIELD is a Massively Multi Player Online Tactics Game. (www.navyfield.com)
One of the best features of NAVY FIELD is the presence of graphically engineered warships, weapons, fighters, and bombers that actually existed in that era. Players will have the opportunity to see how the actual naval guns, torpedo launchers, Fire Control Systems, and engines looked and operated. Players earn game credits for ships and gain experience points for sailors as they engage in war-like battles. ... The massive naval battles that involve up to 128 players (64 vs. 64) have to be one of the most impressive features of NAVY FIELD. Players are asked to utilize their cooperative and tactical skills in developing effective strategies with team members to lead overcome the enemy and lead their team to victory.
Can I run it?
The game was designed to hit the lowest common denominator, so you can run it on a 1 ghz machine (I'd suggest at least a 1.2, though).
Screenshots?
Included at bottom. (The game is in chinese, japonese, english, and korean, don't be fooled by the screens of non-english)
Ok, so what do I do?
Well, after downloading the game, install it, and let the patcher run (will probably take about 40 minutes.) This is a beta game, so they are constantly updating and tweaking the game for the better. Just run it once, and the tutorial will help you out.
The tutorial is confusing! A little hint?
The main thing is to buy crew members and weapons for your ship. Ammo is also a priority, don't forget. Armor can wait for a while, but every part of your ship needs to be outfitted (engine, guns, ammo, crew, hull, steering mechanism, etc) through simple click-by-click methods (aka like equipping different items on a person's body in a MMORPG).
Now I am Admiral Destructor, ready to sail the seas!
There is an important Manual on the website, but for those that want the crash course:
F is speed up
V is slow down
Q and E rotate your entire boat of guns
W and S angle your guns (the best angle to go for is ~5 for close range, up to 30 for very long range)
Z, X, and C select different guns on your ship. At the bottom of the screen, your guns will be highlighted that you have currently active.
R switches to guns (this is all you will start off with)
T switches to torpedos (you get these later, torpedos can only fire from the sides)
TDA (the switch in the bottom right) increases gun swivel speed, but lowers accuracy.
Other than that, you should be ready to sail the high seas of adventure!
Stay in the newbie area (the first corner) until you get your bearings, and do a few tutorial missions to get your sealegs!
Hope to see you there!
