How does one learn about how to encode movies?
I've been trying to learn for quite some time now but, I always seem to run into a horrible guide for terrible encode results or just and outdated guide. Please someone help me find a definate guide to encode. I'm trying to figure out how to convert to DVD → XviD with optimum quality and decent compression.

I have a couple of different programs I use for mpeg2 to mpeg4 (divx or xvid).. I have hard drive space to burn (about 620 gigs).

Don't worry. Persevere. I tried for a week, with little sleep, encoding into RM to make a 28 Mb file that has a good quality, from a 170 Mb AVI. I did it after a week, practice makes perfect.

Are you kidding? Real Media sucks, why would anyone want to convert Xvid/Divx to RM?

Space and size constraints... not really wanted but needed...

Simple solution-get a bigger hard drive. 200 gig and bigger ones are dirt cheap right now.
