Hello.
I've some good experience to share here since I think many ppl who's browsing this also play online games.
I'm learning Japanese language. I'm aiming to pass level 2 Japanese proficiency test in this december(I'll be using "JLPT" to refer to Japanese language proficiency test from now). According to my situation, this test is very important and will decide my life.
How hard is the lv2 JLPT? Well, some college in Japan accepts student who passed lv2 JLPT WITHOUT having to take any extra Japanese language course first.
For ppl who never study japanese before, getting there seems to takes forever.
But one day I noticed the official requirement for lv2 participants, it said something like : "This level is normally aquired by a person who have around 600 hours of instructed class.".
When I first saw that I realized nothing until.....
Here comes FFXI, the MMORPG with the function that can display your PLAYTIME.
My playtime exceeded 600 hours already. And I'm still not that high level.(I play only 1 job/1 subjob and just reached lv60). If a player like me have more than 600 hours of playtime, then I believe around 50% of FFXI players have more playtime than me. I don't think I'm considered high-level. Because, before the latest exp adjustment, at level 67 you are only at halfway to level 75(current lv cap), exp wise. And I'm sure many ppl who's reading this is higher level than me.
Can you truly believe that these 2 things takes same amount of time to accomplish?
1. Study japanese from ZERO to a level that "can attend some Japanese college WITHOUT having to take any extra Japanese language course first."
2. Play FFXI to level 60.
To those who never study any foreign language from the beginning, try it and you'll see how much time and effort needed just to be 'able to do some communication'. I know it quite well because I also studied English up from zero.
My message is intended to let everyone know that, in most case, you SHOULD have enough time to accomplish your task(if your task is something easier than passing level2 JLPT). The only thing that is still missing is your effort. (like when I spend my time leveling my character to lv60 -> that IS what called effort lol)
Are you afraid you can't accomplish something you are aiming to?
You need 1.time 2.effort
1. -> You have it.
2. -> It's up to YOU now. Good luck !
