Used Photoshop CS2 for this, so sorry if it's a little different for your version. Also note that this took two hours to make, and the example of how I used the pill sucks hardcore. XD Anyway, here ya go.

XDDD The tutorial! If the pill took me two hours to make, I'd off myself, lol!

Edit: This is my first tutorial, so that's why it took so long. :p Pretty good for a first, right? I hope? ^^;

Very useful tutorial ... if I would make ad-posters for the pharmaceutical industry. :p:D

Nah, j/k, the infos about how to make things look 3D-ish are useful regardless of the object. ^^

Hmm... interesting, never seen anyone make a tutorial of a pill :D. Nice tutorial for the 3D part nonetheless.

Nice, but for a pill-rendering purpose I'd just go real 3D :p (since it's an easy shape)

Ok, I just went and tried this, and for some reason it didn't quite look right, so I ended up changing almost everything on the layer palette. This ends up with a slightly more realistic but less cool-graphics look, I think--I don't really prefer my way, but people might be interested.

First off, to draw the pill, I just took a regular round brush, changed the radius to 150, set the spacing to 1% (or just turn it off), held down shift, and painted a short horizontal line. Dunno which way is easier.

I totally don't see the point of using the ruler; I just used the rectangular marquee and placed it at about the halfway point. I guess with the ruler you can make it exact?

Anyway, I'm not keen on having the gradient have to be the same color as the pill, since that's a PITA as you change pill colors, but I did end up doing that too. However, I also used some of the bevel shadow as well as the gradient to get a more realistic 3D. The main thing is how I mucked with the gloss contour and the body contour.
