After watching The Twelve Kingdoms I was filled with thoughts about how I'd try to run Kei country, or any country.
Today when I was making dinner the idea came to me; a game where you are the ruler of a country, set in the middle ages or something like it. It has no direct goal other than creating a great empire, sort of like SimCity, but even though it has no other goal than that, I still think it still can be entertaining.
Anyway, you can lounge around the castle, listening to the advice of your ministers and make your decisions from that. You can also decide to walk around in your country, GTA-style. For instance, you can watch maybe how some people get looted by robbers. Maybe you help either party, maybe you get back to the castle and pass a legislation to train soldiers to combat the robbers. Maybe you just ally with the robbers and let them continue their business but pay tax to you and in return you won't send troops after them.
I realize that the system requirements will be enourmous since I feel that the walkable country should be a couple of times bigger than all of San Andreas. Perhaps it should feature an abundance in eyecandy too since just hanging around an ugly castle will get dull.
Perhaps some "quests" could do well. Like a spring flood, Nile-style. Maybe some corrupt people trying to manipulate you into making decisions in their favour. Fun stuff like that.
Just needed to get that out of my system. Feel free to add stuff :)
