Now that I'm awake I've had to cut back on the upload speed a bit, it really kills my connection when it gets too high.

Argghh. I'm 100% through the install process when it gives me an error saying it couldn't create a start menu item. So because it couldn't create one stupid start menu item the whole install fails. Friggin' Japanese fonts. :(

Problem solved! :) Sort of. I found that if I copied the contents of the virtual drive to a temporary folder, then opened up "inst.ini" in a notepad and replaced every instance of the Japanese name with an English name, the install would succeed!

However, the game seems to crash shortly after I begin the story. I can hear the character say her first line, but no text shows up in the message window, and the program crashes. :(

We'll see what I can do about this...
I'm sure you're all on the edge of your seats waiting to see if Zabel gets out of this.

Hmm, I'm not sure. Just make sure you've followed the steps to make sure your computer will run the JP non-unicode programs. I mounted and installed this with daemon tools. Worked like a charm for me.

Crumbola, I'm really stuck here. The problem has got to be something to do with the text because the bgm and voice came through fine. Hell, I don't even care that much about the text. I want to hear all the pretty sounds and see all the pretty pictures, darn it. I'd just as soon turn off the story if there was a way...

Otherwise it's time to grudgingly admit defeat and move to Plan B -- Find a plug-in that'll let me dig into the game's data without actually running the game. Anybody got one? The only one I can find online appears not to be free. :(

Hrm... Maybe you should try using software like njstar or something like that to display the japanese characters. But I'm not 100% sure that it may work.
Or you could try upgrading your Operating System...

Well, NJstar didn't work either. It was a nice idea though. Obviously the Hentai Gods are conspiring against me ever playing this game. Maybe I'll go do something else like maybe play outside.

I just need to make sure from now on that a game isn't JP non-unicode before I spend the next odd days and nights dl-ing the thing.

When I used to be on Win98SE, NJStar never seemed to work for me when I played games that required Japanese filenames/foldernames (I encountered this the first time on Alicesoft's "Darcrows"). The only software that helped me in that case was called "Richwin97". I don't know how easy/hard it would be to find that program nowadays, though...

You can setup for windows 98 to display japanese characters in a program, I did it before when I had 98se. I don't recall how atm, but looking for anything similar in regional and language settings, or thru windows update (is that still working for 98?)

There should be an option for you to have an IME setup that will allow you to enter japanese text if you want to, and that will also fix your language settings I think.

I already have installed everything Windows Update lists as available for my computer that is even remotely relevant to running Japanese programs. IME doesn't seem to help any.

As for regional settings, this is what the control panel looks like for Win98SE:

The pull-down menu lists many languages, but not east Asian languages. That's why it's necessary to use progs like NJStar, right? Problem being that there is still apparently no way to switch to non-unicode. I think there was a way to do that in Win95. Why does Win98 get the shaft? :confused:

To heck with all this. I'm done trying to install on clunky Windows 98 already. Gonna install on my friend's WinXP machine instead. This shouldn't be difficult to do, what with my friend's machine already sitting in my room. (he didn't have anywhere else to put it at the moment) Time to put it to use running beautiful and delicious J-games. He can consider it the cost of rent. :p

you found readiris in emule. I use the version 10 PRO and I downloaded in separated the asian language plugin. without asian language plugin, the iris not reconocize the japanese words. this program works perfect in fonts type "MS gothic", but, another fonts have a lot of errors, like you see above...

warning: have a mac version and a windows version!
