I still have my Dreamcast. I bought it for $50 new. Haven't played it recently because i'm playing some RPGs thay i've yet to finish. I remember playing Marvel vs. Capcom on it all the time and Ikuraga, so hard to beat the 4th stage.

I've had my Dreamcast for a few years, but then sold it for $60 dollars since I had barely any games.
i remember when i first got my dc, i got it along with soul calibur and was totally blown away by it (console ver > arcade ver). within the first few weeks of buying it i was buying every and all fighting games for it. main reason i bought the dc was because of soul calibur and mvc2. other great games i enjoyed on the system, aside from the great fighters, were skies of arcadia, record of lodoss war, jet set radio, chu chu rocket, and the power stone games.

I've always wanted a DC for all the cool games that were coming out for it at the beginning. The game I was totally looking forward to getting was MVC2. In the end I never got one. :(
Who knows? There are some stores where you can trade games for some old consoles... or buy a used one and you can play your games again...
Then there's emulation.... piracy is always bad. Nintendo always had a huge grudge towards piratted games.

Still play mine every day. I love the japanese version of project justice and creating characters. Rez is sweet, and I still love all the 2D fighter goodness. :)

playing dreamcast with a vga adpater is the best
There's no need of a VGA box...the DC was the first (IIRC) console to have a native VGA output, though masked with Sega's own interface connector...cables that cost less and perform better than the usual VGA boxes are pretty common and easy to build.
The best thing about the DC is that since Ikaruga was published is that is a SEUP paradise....long live the Naomi board ^^

wow that brings back some good ol' memories. what got me i into the console was the fact that DOA 2 made its glamorous debut and of couse you cant forget great titles as Marvel vs capcom 2, soul caliber, grandia, shenmue, jet grind radio. im still very sad to this very day that sega (of japan, not america) decided to kill the short lived dreamcast whose graphics can still rival with current 128 bit consoles.
as for where you can "dl" some of these games, although short on seeds, you can possible find some through torrent search engines. but remeber you need the "play cd" in order to play "backed-up" games ;).

just two words to say, rival schoooools! dreamcast was really superior to ps2 the two first years of it's existence, people have been fooled by sony with the mgs2 video(like we are probably being fooled today by the ps3 videos)and finally they had to wait two years before the real next generation games!
ps:chompy ,i totally agree with your idea of a dreamcast torrent thread!

I really loved my DC back then. It was the only port for playing my older games on the big screen, that it before PS2 & XBOX.
Sonic & Crazy Taxi were amoung my favorites on this system.

I still own my DC, 2D fighting games made a huge appearnce at that time and I like mostly shenmue (the reason for me to buy this consle), I belive there is shenmue 2 an europe ver. (at least I can understand even if they speaks british :D:p), I don't think I'll sell the DC until I get my hand on it (I don't have X-box and I won't btw)
ha i have shenmue II european ver. for the dc. i hate those friggin labels they stuck right on the box though.....still pissed about it. i remember there was a thread on here that told us how to get rid of all that sticky crap left behind by labels(those darn labels totally f'ed up my box.) if anybody can post up a link thanks in advance!
sarutan ur gonna have to get an xbox if u wanna play it(less u get ur hands on the european ver.) still have to beat it but from what i've played thus far it's pretty good. the environments r much bigger, ur not restricted to small areas anymore.

For a long time I regretted never getting a DC (I was young, poor, and didn't feel like asking my parent's for a 4th game system for christmas =P I got a hard enough time for systems 2 and 3).
Finally, about 2 years ago, I won a Dreamcast with Soul Calibur at a local Soul Calibur 2 tournament =) Then just this last year around March, I finally started buying games for it. Now I have 40 games and my Dreamcast is basically my favorite system. I even prefer it over my Saturn =O

Dreamcast was quite swell. It had some terrific games. Power Stone 2 was absolutely the best of them all (in my opinion). I mean, nothing but crazy 4-player mayhem! It makes a great party game.

Now I have to wait for Radilgy (02/16/06)

I'd be playing my Dreamcast right now if it didn't die on me...
It was on a slow decline but I managed to run it for two years or so without the top case on. I had many games legit, yet many more not. My favorites were Power Stone, NBA2k2, Virtua Tennis, and let's not forget Ikaruga! I also had a few esoteric games like Cannon Spike, this Capcom shooter (think Metal Slug but in three dimensions). It featured characters like Rockman, Cammy, B.B.Hood.
....Great, now I want to find another DC!
^cannon spike was fun though i quite never understood the sense of it. i regret not buying it when i had the chance. lucky for me, my local arcade still has a cab way in the back.
to add to what i had previously mentioned virtual on: oratorio tangram was also an honorable dc mention much better than marz imho. don't quite know about everyone else but enjoyed record of lodoss war as well.

Record of Lodoss war is a really mixed bag for everyone. It's not one of those titles that everyone who has a DC loves. It's a big love/hate thing amongst gamers it would seem. I really enjoyed it though, blew a good 30 or 40 hours in that game, and could see myself mucking around with it again down the road. I'm a big sucker for hack'n'slash though =D

i spent a good 18-24 hours on it mostly just trying to level up and exploring and uncovering every possible inch of every dungeon which was hell and quite tedious at times(especially the series of caves where you find deedlit.....monotonous exploration is probably a potential reason contributing toward the hate for the game.) twas fun until my file got erased for some odd reason. if i remember correctly i made it up to narse with slayn before losing my final time prior to the extermination of my file. looking back it probably wasn't a great idea to aggravate the dragon. *note to self* do not f**k with dragons!!!
edit: one not so fond memory i have of the game was the incessant clanking of the iron/metal boots which was enough to drive one insane, during the beginning part of the game not to mention attract all different kinds of monsters toward you.

@Wyze: I did basically everything you can do in that game, including slaying BOTH dragons, green and black. I know the green dragon was optional, and was the hardest fight in the game, I don't remember if the black dragon was optional or story though. It might have been both now that I think about it. Story at first, then later you can go back and provoke it. The iron boots would have been irritating, untill I found a pair of boots that were completely silent. They never left my feet for the entirety of the game. There was no need really =)
I'm still getting NEW games for my Dreamcast =D Picked up Radirgy (which is awesome), and Under Defeat is on it's way (I've heard AMAZINGLY good things about it, I can't wait).
@Jona: ebay is your friend. I didn't start collecting games for my DC untill about a year ago, and I already have about 45 games, and all but 2 or 3 of those I consider must own titles. Also, I don't know of any crappy FPS games for the DC. The only 3 I can think of, are Unreal Tournament, Quake III Arena, and Maken X. All of which I really like alot.

Heh, listing all my favorite dreamcast games will be interesting (and this is only the cream of the crop, I own about 45 titles and consider all but 2-3 must own titles, and I still want another 20-30 games for the system). =P Here it goes.
Mars Matrix, Zero Gunner 2, Ikaruga, Radirgy, Under Defeat, Trizeal, Bangai-O, Gunbird 2, Cannon Spike, Rez, Power Stone, Garou:Mark of the Wolves, Project Justice, Bust-A-Move 4, Chu Chu Rocket, MDK2, Crazy Taxi, Skies of Arcadia, Maken X, Typing of the Dead, and Unreal Tournament.

Whoa, I completely forgot Worms: Armageddon *slaps self* =O What an awesome game.
Yeah, Maken X had a weird story, but it was interesting, and very much original. Plus the whole First Person Melee rather than Shooter was an interesting twist, and they executed it very well. Plus it had a fair amount of challenge to it, which is always a plus in my eyes.

Burned games = Blasphemous : don't speak of such things around here. The homebrew scene on the other hand, is a very neat side-effect of the ease of burning CD's for it. Plus it allows us to get games that were supposed to be released but never were, like Half-Life *grumbles*
Lunchbox brought over Under Defeat tonight, which is the newest game released for the Dreamcast, seeing Japanese shelves on 3/24/06 I believe, give or take a few days. It is AWESOME, a really fun, and refreshingly simple traditional shooter. The graphics? Amazing, simply amazing. For those of you who know what Ikaruga looks like on the Dreamcast (or on the gamecube for that matter). Well... Ikaruga looks good on a normal TV, better on progressive scan (gamecube), MUCH better on VGA (trashes progressive in big bad ways), and Under Defeat looks comparable to progressive scan Ikaruga, with nicer explosions and cool smoke effects. Then put UD on VGA and... oh man... The prettiness. I'm not normally a graphics whore, but UD is so extraordinarily good looking that it deserves mention.

Bah, get off your high horse. We've played enough burned games on several systems to kill any credibility in that statement.
Maybe i'll finally be able to paly some of these games that Ryan keeps bringing over while i'm at work (gah) this Sunday... If I wake up, I guess. :P
Arvandor
04-02-2006, 08:21 AM
Yeah, but we buy the ones we like, and trash the ones we don't. If I could go to blockbuster and rent japanese traditional shooters, I would. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Even with such a semi-moralistic policy, slamming down on burns while using them yourself seems rather hypocritical. That's all I wanted to point out. =P

Toy Commander was alot of fun. Used to play that and listen to D12 at my friend's house, it was a weird obsession to listen to that every time we played, but it just didn't feel right if we didn't listen to them while playing. (that is, after we first did it.)

God I wish they hadn't discontinued this console, I had so much fun playing it (stolen by one of my brothers).
The Official Dreamcast magazine was probably the only gaming magazine I followed closely and enjoyed.
Shenmue is probably one of the most under-appreciated games I've played, if only...
"According to IGN, the game, which cost an unprecedented $70 million to make, would have had to
be purchased twice by every single Dreamcast owner in order for Sega to turn a profit. The 70 million
investment presumably included the budget for the resources for additional sequels."
Also killed a lot of time playing dead or alive.
