Well, the pics may not look as polished as some, but I think they're just fine. Remember this is a doujin game done by college students in their spare time. While I've never played it, myself, I did get a chance to meet several members of the animation staff for the anime and all they could do was rave about how great the game was, in that understated Japanese way.

Staffer: 'Boss, we need to animate this game.'
Boss: 'Game animes are all lame. No dice.'
Staffer: 'Just play it.'
Later.
Boss: 'We need to animate this game.'

Really quite funny as virtually every person working on the show was reluctant until playing the game, then they were all crazy about it. That, and they all insisted they never ever play these games. Hmm.

Kinoko Nasu ( author ) and Takashi Takeuchi ( illustrator) made this game when they are in college? What are you talking about? They released Tsukihime in December 2000, both of em were born in 1973 so that makes them 27/28 yrs old.. at that age, they are still considered college students?
