Well, I'm in the same boat as you. Even just from mounting it I got the "Authenticating CD" notice when I had disc 2 in and it didn't do anything after. I'm then assuming you need XP or Chinese support installed. I'll try that tomorrow if nobody else knows what's going on.

Here is the No CD crack for PM4 Chinese version. It is cracked by a guy in NetShow.

To burn the CD image on CD, you need to have a 2-sheep CD burner and a burning program which supports 1 to 1 burning (Alcohol 120% or CloneCD would do).

For more info:

Btw, is PM2 licensed? If not, could somebody share the remake version (not the Dos version).

None of the PM are licencied (The Translation of the DOS version for the 2 was made by a fan)

I'll share the PM2R (i have it, well i can share the PM1R too if i remember where is my CD >_< )

Well anyway if someone have a Jap version of PM4 i'll wait until someone share it... if not.. bah i'll take the chinese version ^^;

I hope this one is good like the other

The crack worked (after installing the game, copy the .exe to where you installed PM4 and overwrite the normal one)

My setup is Win2kPro with english and JP language support in.

EDIT - Seems I'm having some sort of input problem now when trying to input what I figure is the names. I notice it says

http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/422/clipboard014ra.png

I can only barely understand spoken japanese and am completely unable to read japanese or chinese. When clicking "OK" nothing happens. I tries in windowed mode and fullscreen.

PM4 Japanese version is not yet released in Japan. Maybe it will release at the end of the year? So I suggest you to get this Chinese version first and get the Japanese version later. And that is what I will do.

Honestly, I feel sorry for the company which releases the PM4 Chinese version. There have been over 5000+ people downloading it. Please support the game and the company by buying the game if you are able to find it in your local shop.

I ordered the PS2 version, actually:)

So no matter what, make sure you support somebody who rightfully needs this cash. PM4 was an agonizing long wait for PM fans. Hopefully awesome sales will make 5 take less than half a decade.

I just got it working. Seems name inputs seem require Japanese characters (dunno about chinese) so my daughter was forced to be Nanoha and the father name is Shiro (I had www.nanoha.com open in another window so it was a convenient copy/paste job)

Getting the Sister Princess guy to do the art was a great decision IMO. It does look good, if a little untraditional for the series.

None of the PM are licencied (The Translation of the DOS version for the 2 was made by a fan)

http://www.softegg.com/products/pm2/pm2.html

The DOS translation was hardly a fan effort. Such a shame what happened with Softegg.

This PM4 sure looks different from the one that got scrapped ages ago (All I remember about that one was Cube being remanifested as a dog and it being set in a more modernized setting).

Dragnfly@gamefaqs
09-20-2005, 05:05 AM
Yeah, that. It was the modern day one. It was later being turned into a second PMQ. That got scrapped. Then it was to become a standalone series. Again, scrapped. Now, years later we have this.

I dunno. We'd need to know somebody on Hongfire who's fluent in english and chinese and somebody who can do the program work. I dunno where the heck we'd find somebody on hongfire who knows chinese.

I'm gonna go to hell for that one, I know it.

Jokes asside, here's what I've got so far. If it has "???" it means I have no clue what it does and if it has "o" then it just means I haven't tried it yet. I'm doing this starter's guide very casually but for some reason my username obligates me to give some sort of info. The general mechanics seem the same as any other princess maker game so we'll assume any fans of this have played at least one other one so I won't explain what stuff does.

I am pretty fluent in both English and Chinese (reading and speaking anyway). If you can find someone to do programing, I'm glad to help translate what ever I can. Although, I'm still downloading. Anyway, I hope someone reading this are serious about doing a translation. This is a good game and it's a shame that it stays oversea.

Dracil, geez. I didn't expect to see you here! Anyway, get this game. It's awesome!

So I asked around and nobody I know wants to do the programming.

After translations are done I'll fix up the grammar. That'd be an easy task.

Just beat the game, the Chinese translation isn't very satisfying, some dialogues simply looks goofy. Hope I could get my hands on a Japanese version instead.

Too bad even today PM2 is still the best of the PM series, that means PM4 is still inferior in turns of gameplay. But at least you won't have so much restrictions like the PM3 (which I thought it to be a huge disaster). But although PM4 does feature a redefined and better system than the PM2, but at the same time took out a lot of previous elements. I don't know why the hell did Gainax took out the RPG adventure element out this time, in fact, the ending is VERY short, you only get like one picture with a few describtions in the end, with no "Letter from the Daughter" like the previous series, and the game no longer judge the Girl's ability in motherhood. The dress on your girl will no longer be shown in the dancing competition as well, even though the bonus stats from the dress still applies.

By the way, if you wish to have the girl to marry the father in the end, you must to restric the girl's "moral" below 350.

Just a small correction... the last town location you can access on the menu is the Hospital and not the Library.

You would only visit this place if your daughter gets sick. Even if you do visit this place when your daughter is healthy, the doctor just shoos you away. BTW, the medical fees are expensive!!

I played the game several times and I was really disappointed with it. Although the drawings looked great, the gameplay wasn't very satisfying. It also wasn't difficult for my daughter to become the princess... took me 2 tries only. I remember having a lot of difficulty getting the princess ending for PM2 and PM3. This one didn't take much effort at all.

Dragnfly@gamefaqs
09-22-2005, 06:11 AM
Back when 2's translation was new and buzz about 3 was starting some friends and I started working on a clone game. More jobs, more classes and difficulty changes of adding more than one daughter at a time (yes, it got as difficult as it sounds) and the chance of starting with one of a few different daughters but then we graduated and all went our seperate ways and it never got done.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up about the library/hospital thing. My daughter's stress never goes above 60. She's 13 now and never gets sick.

Ichi
09-22-2005, 05:17 PM
I guess I'm a terrible parent... I make her work wayy too much. But the reason I did that was so I could strengthen my daughter's relationship with Cube... nothing happened after multiple tries so I guess I need to do something more to get the ending with Cube.

PM2 can be downloaded from the Home of the Underdogs: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=843

And here's a fun fact on the SNES version, if you use Zsnes you can turn on and off layers pressing the number keys (1..6 or 7) anyway one of those layers is the daughter's clothing 8^)

City Locations:

I divided it into 3 sectors, starting the one at the most top left corner of the map:
- Busy Street
- Weapon Shop
- Dress Shop
- Restaurant

Middle sector: (starting from top to down)
- City = Castle Gate
- Town Centre/Plaza
- Church
- Street End

Most right sector:
- Marketplace
- Dark Town (you wouldn't be able to enter this place till you're at least 14 or 15 years old, I forget which age.)
- Hospital

Let's see, taking a few months/years of your life in exchange for something that's essentially worthless. Tough choice.

I think only if you have a passion for whatever you're considering that you should seriously consider it. The job is thankless, why the heck would you do this for rep on a forum, and it would take a whole lotta time (take a look at Kanon and Tsukihime). But if you enjoy the game and most aspects about it, you will have a lot of fun translating and programing the game. You MUST be absolutetly serious about it, else you will eventually lose interest midway and waste your time.

Chinese text doesn't appear for most in game choices. Instead a whole bunch of 'Squares' take their place. I'm assuming those chinese text i do see aren't really text but pictures with the words. With the WinXP default SEAsean Lanugage option already installed, is there any other plugin that I might need?

Solution:
(1) Change your locale to Traditional Chinese. By default, the font being used in PM4 is 細明體. (標楷體 is only available on Windows traditional Chinese version).
(2) Search google to get some traditional chinese font, and change the setting in the file game.ini. For instance, I use the font "華康中圓體" , then edit the "Font=" in game.ini to:
Font=DFYuanMedium-B5

sally60
09-30-2005, 05:01 AM
Lemme try and understand that...

#1 Change your locale to Traditional Chinese

How is this done?

#2 Goggle search for traditional chinese font

I'll just search for the one ur using

Will the font=FDYuanMedium-B5 change depending on what font i'm using or how I install this font?

Thank you very much. your time is greatly appreciated.

Oookk...

I can't get a font.

www.youmade.com/font apparently gives DLs but I can't seem to register. Anyone has suggestions where I might find these fonts?

Query: Can't I set the ini file to read the font that I already have?

Priestess_Sally

sally60
10-01-2005, 01:09 AM
Ah success, I managed to change the locale and it worked. The font looks not too good but its legible.

I miss the variety of paths and the stat trigger system in PM3 but perhaps there will be more things to discover in this version that will make up for that.

PS. People having trouble with illness should pump Str. Since version 3's stamina and str have been merged, it now likely gives the bonuses of both. Preliminary tests of stress at 150-200 support this.

Like all PMs... do not assume that what you get the first time you go for a class/job is always the same. A significant randomisation of the modification to each stat occurs for each activity.

If you don't believe it, take a single class a few times in a row and note the increase/decrease. It may vary significantly.

Only trigger event modifications to stat are always fixed

Some different questions:

How do I take out the pictures from the game? I've seen many cg game packs floating around, but how did you guys get em out? (really want to know how to rip the pictures out of romance of the 3 kingdoms X too)

Can I kill the girl? It's not working, I remember you can let the girl die from sickness in part 2...

After playing 4 a few cycles, I believe 2 is still better. There's just too little animation/frames. I mean the dance contest just.. pure sucks. No complaints on the event cgs though.

Why would it take months or years to program the game into a different language? I'm not a programmer so my question may sound stupid, I thought you just go in it and change all the language parts :o... Or does this has something to do with "not having source code" <---if that made any sense at all.

Because the translation itself takes months, if not years, plus some games have fairly unique programming that makes it more complicated than simply changing the language parts.

This game is short, but interesting for a few minutes of play at a time.

The only complaint I would have is that you can have your daughter be good at many things but you only get one ending. But, this isn't suppose to be a complex game. If you want that go play an RPG.

Oh, and I see lists of the jobs, training, etc, that are missing things. THere's actually a lot of hidden things.
