I cant seem to get my joypad to work with this game, it dosnt autoconfigure like it does with other Falcom games like YS, any ideas?

I loaded it up and tested it with my game pad. Unfortunately it wasn't designed to use any sort of controller.

My controller is programmable so I could easily set it up, but using an analouge stick for this game would make the interface even worse. I think we're just stuck with the mouse on this one....

that's just a sound buffer option ! there's no such thing as eax in this game !

EDIT : Well , I passed the forest. But got stuck again >.<
after defeated some kind of Fire creature boss(Balrog?) in icy mountain
and got the third crown. I dunno where to go next : P

You must go to shop to buy bow from Anies (It must have event after you enter in the shop). after that you must set item which you get after defeat Boss in icy mountain(not crown) because this Item make you can breath in water. after you set item you must walk to the sea in city , It have a way to find Boss. After defeat Boss You must set bow from Anies in weapon slot and arrow from Rize in item slot to use it to shoot at eye on giant door.
I'm sorry because I'm not strong in English to explain. - -;

Wow.. Johnathan got really far for not being able to read Japanese.

Just finished the game... I missed some treasure boxes and items... Some items are so obscure and you only get them from random drops... I got mostly Ds with some Cs and a B. If someone can finish the game with all good grades they should post it here.

I found all weapons and got a S in skills, but I missed a Guardian o_O.
Also I got a D in level with level 19 (exp was already quite slow, i thought 20 was max level)
I wonder how high it goes.
Anyone knows what/where the 6th guardian is ?
Got 88% boxes only, but since I had all skills I guess I didn't miss that much.
By the way, the last guardian was really fun. Gives you 3 more bonus points per level. I deleveled all the way to level 1 and power leveled back to level 19 as soon as I got it.
(You can use the Dragon Slayer even at level 1).
With this, I was quite a power house :D
The last boss was anti climatic >.> Too easy T_T
And the Death spell was overpowered : seriously it wipes out rooms ^^;
With the SP absorbing ring you can basically one shot any room you come across ^^;

the 6th guardian , It in dungeon of spider boss , that room has a water main , you can destory wall with gunlet to make way to get 6th guardian.
and this game 20 is max level (Class Last Knight)

How the heck do you get that box under the stairs on the way to the time rift?　That one really bugged me.

Get to the last ledge just before the bridge that leads to the rift (one jump before)
Take off the wing boots. Then jump as much as you can. You'll end up on the ledge with the chest. It has the guardian that enhances the effects of the rings (it's pretty nice : you get back 4 SP when it steals some)

How can I pass the room in the castle that there's a big crystal creature with altar in front of it.

"The castle" eh? I can guess you're in the last castle. There's no room in there with a door you can't open with a key except stone "circle key" doors. One door is trapped (use the glasses there). Did you run out of keys? :/

I've been to the mountains but I only found 2 items in the volcano area, and two punchable walls that contained a tablet and a spell book. Where are the spectacles located? In the ruins or in the mountains?

If i recall correctly you get the spectacles after you beat the spider boss. I believe you are at the part where you go back down to the underground part through the path after you go past the volcano.

I'm actually stuck in the part where you have the two boxes that when pushed onto the blocks, one set of stairs appear and if not, the other set of stairs appear. What should I do for that part of the game? There's an item in the first part of the forests that has 3 wooden boxes, and the item that appears when the thing on top of one block is pushed down. I just can't seem to get how to solve those. (and I'm pretty sure the spider boss is suppose to be after the item I'm trying to get right now)

hm...you got that item from the spider? the spectacles? I was looking for that. After you defeat the spider, you can get the first box, then go further and get a second box (spectacles), and then equip that and go up the stairs further into the room and get a 3rd box.

You can change the guardians in the church and you don't use them they just increase parts of your status if you equip them.

Yes, the woman you meet in the forest areas, the option before the last, she gives you an item that you can make keys from if you have bones.

ok well, check in your regional settings again, you need to set the 3rd tab (the advanced options) where it says "language for non-unicode programs" to Japanese and let your computer restart. I don't know what else could be wrong. Hope something will help

First make sure you've gone to the church and talked to the girl there who gives you a key, then go outside and go south east to the gates that lead you to the "Ruins outside of the Street" ... yea they call it that XD good luck~~

maximize all stats? oh...yea click on the red button on the left and it opens up your stats as you walk on the map but it's annoying (for me at least) because it blocks about half the screen. You can see what guardians does what in the church when you go to the manage guardian options.

That Weapon is drop from Elder Salamander in maze forest( It Big Salamander can counter attack ) You can get it very easy with 6th guardian(% drop item increase) high level.

Xanadu Ruin is behind 1st warp point near village. you can go that after break wall in under water in village.

Thanks a lot Rancrosider for your answers! You can get the weapon with learn skill+int in the area before you enter the maze forest (the place you beat the first tree-looking boss). Just keep killing all the goblins in the area until it drops you that weapon, but you cannot get this in the area with many green blobs. By the way, you mention that I can get the ice sword from Xanadu Ruin by solving puzzle. I do not think I see any puzzle. Could you give me more hints. Thanks!

There are some breakable walls you need to look for in the Xanadu Ruins. one of them contains the puzzle for the ice sword. There's about 3 puzzles in there if I remembered correctly.

Thanks for the ice sword! Now I finally collect all weapons! The only thing I need to find is the 9th guardian. I know Rancrosider said that is around the maze forest or the 2nd mountain area. New dungeon, "Dimension of the Dead"!
The entrance to this new dungeon appears on the stairway inside the castle, just after you pull the switch to draw the bridge and a cutscene with a water wheel is shown.

Deadlier monsters appear only in the Dimension of the Dead and not in the original game. Mid-level boss-like monsters attack the player one after the other!

Now you can make your character even more tougher so that even those new to action games can experience a smooth gaming experience.

Issues that have been fixed.
- The movie quality is preserved even in 16-bit colour mode.
- With V-Synch "On", changing maps would result in extreme lag.
- When you have a "Game Over" in the Void of Time, the onscreen map goes weird.
- Using Alt-Tab to switch between applications would activate the map.
- The player's 3D model goes funny on the loading menu.
- The barrier to the Ruins Outside Town wouldn't unlock.

There's a few other places you can go underwater too.

O__O I did patch it before I updated it to 1.0.1.2 ... maybe that's what went wrong!

um...well so I tried uninstalling without deleting the save files then resintall and then put the patch on, but it still crashes when I try loading a saved file

I haven't been to the new dungeon yet but I'll let you know where that entrance is. I think it's the light that's on the stairs pictured on the site though, the first picture. The stairs that you come across when you first enter the castle near the end of the game.

I just installed the 1.0.1.2 patch, but when I try to use my game pad, it doesn't work that well with the movement. I'm using a ps2 analog controller, and when I tilt the left analog stick, my character starts to walk, then he freezes in a certain position but keep moving (slowly). He can run in a certain direction if I tilt a little, then I let go and he will just run in that direction. However, I don't like this style of play.

I've tried working with the config options, but nothing seems to help. Anyone know how to fix this?

Does anyone know how long the new dungeon is? I've played to level 20 and it's getting a bit tedious: same music, hardly any new enemies as I go down, reused dungeon designs from the Xanadu Ruins. I've only gotten 2 new items that aren't heal potions. The new addition's turning out to be a flop. I expected better from Falcom.

Edit: make that 3 new items, I just got new armor on level 20.

Yeah Genwara i know ever the teleport ring is but the farest i can go is to the snow mountain there i kick the bosses A.. and i have been under the water and fixed so i can get to the castle under the water but not through the Shield and the way you talked about there nothing there but the old places with nothing to to....

Quality says surprisingly little about their succes really, it's primarely about polish and marketing. A great game can be dwarfed into oblivion if the "to english" translation is a little less than usual, and without a decent name backing it up, it won't bring much money anyway.

it's in the (very complicated) ruins ... you know where you saw water gate #3? that room in the FAR end with 2 boxes that when you push them onto the buttons, one set of stairs show and the other disappears? I got stuck there before but someone helped me figure out how to get both stairs so I can go up and get the boss =) hope this helps

oh XD yes the shooting from afar...I just kept slashing at things that I forgot I had that ability ^^; and um...you should look at the signs in the forest. I believe the round ones get you back to where you started, the squares with the lightning looking sign just takes you back into where you are currently... (and Gillian put up a mini map to where you should go a few pages back...that really helps) lol. You're suppose to find the wing boots in that forest last.

Ohh, the healing... well, you see when you fight him, his roots expands really far right? On each root there is something that looks like an eye. When it opens you have to attack that. Basically each of those eye things remaining will heal 40HP each when the boss heals. So kill them all and he won't be able to heal anymore.

well, did you get a glove item? you know those doors with rocks blocking them? put on the gloves and break them then one of the doors lead back to town, the other towards watergates 2 and 3 and the spider boss. =) good luck~

Go back out through the city gates and go to the place where you first met the woman who sold you the bone key. There's an event there and then you can enter the Xanadu Ruins. Once you get through the time gate in the ruins, you can deactivate the shield to the castle.

yeah, that's is a little difficult, you know a huge hall(which is in the middle of the map), when you go up from the west side, you may see a square stage that you can not get on, the last stone key is up there(invisible,see with the glasses),About how to get there, go to the wheel room on the top of the hall, that means the room where you have to use the stone key, head south, you see a broken bridge. Jump from there! and try to crash on the square stage, you get it?

See the colors? I know its not well drawn... anyways, those are the few things you have to do. The order does not matter. on the picture at least. The brown smudge is signal to hit the wooden box ONCE.

Here in explanations, let us take THAT camera angle in the picture. up = north, left = west, etc.
-green movable block on the south: move it 1E
-green movable block on the east: move it 1W 1S (in this order)
do the same pattern for the two red movable blocks... which means
-red movable block on the east: move it 1W 1N
-red movable block on the north: move it 1E
and then
-hit each of the wooden boxes ONCE each. so basically, half their size so you can move things even from the floor
-push the stone blocks on either one of the colored unmovable boxes (only 2 sides)
-push the corresponding remaining block to where the wooden box was, making all 3 dissappear together.

you're suppose to get to another place first and then get in another part of the forest and get an item that can break those rocks =)

@kingman: do you have the gauntlets? Wear them and go near those large rocks, you will be able to break them. If you didn't get them... go back to the first boss's field. On the northmost point of the circular map is a chest with the gauntlets.

Knets, about the image you uploaded, it's the first stone key of the four in this castle, I don't remember this well, but it would not be difficult. I think it is somewhere behind a wall which you have to break with the gauntlets, wear them and try walking by the wall, I remember there was something in the room with those long stairs(where you encounter some fying dragons, purple or red ,not sure, sorry).I'm posting this list of all the treasure boxes in this castle, there is no exact location, hope it helps a little.Tell me if you want the whole list.

@kingman: What level are you? o.o you didn't unlock that door yet... you should go on the other side through the ruins and use fireball on the stands to open door. (or is that a old screenshot?) Well the place I am at is in the water. Basically the lake behind town, go down until theres a bridge, and keep going to cross it. And into the castle. If you mean how to go in the castle, go out of town from gates, north again, east, and east. The small room with tallgrass and a statue will have a door now (the statue is gone). Explore that dungeon and eventually you'll get in the castle after a boss fight. Once inside from that road, you can break the machine thats making the green barrier.

Why is it that this torrent uses like 4 different trackers? Azureus wont stick to just one.

Does anyone know what the Legend of Xanadu 1&2 extra disc is like in the first press package? Straight PC Engine ports or are there some inhancements? It kinda looks like some proper animation is in there from the web page, that would be cool.

Well, I want to play this game, but I cant get past 29.1% since the tracker(s) has been down for around 3 days now, not to mention when it rarely is up, there are no seeds to connect to...

Is there any way someone could re-upload it to a working tracker and seed this?

It seems the torrent is no longer on a few of the trackers, as when I looked at it when it tries to connect to a few of the trackers, it says "Error: torrent not found on tracker".

It's mainly the Datorrents tracker that it does this on.

Well, its working on the trackers now, unlike before. Some of them are still down, but we can download again. All we need now is some seeders or we will all get stuck at ~63% which is where the highest person is at.

So, could people reseed?

I have a question. Does this game have animated or video intro? I just wondering because the game I have doesn't. When I run the game it shows the falcom logo, and then it goes black and doesn't show a thing but music. When I click it goes straight to the menu.

I can't get the game to install, I get an error when choosing directory, and afterwards, files won't copy. I already have my settings in japanese and stuff. Also, I see 2 different image files, which one should I use for install?

Use \DummyCut_Image\X_DVD.ISO to install from. the \ForStart_Image\X_DVD.ISO is to play Xanadu Next without having the entire ISO loaded constantly or having the disc in the drive. not really necessary with the NoCDs already available in this thread.

thx for seeding this game. Downloaded it and installed it fine and kinda like the gameplay. Only problem i have is i can't seem to save. Whenever i try to save in one of the 99 slots, there's just a chime and nothing happens.
Anybody knows where are the savegame files located?
and anybody has some savegame files i can test?

Finally got the game working on my brother's pc, kinda like it :)
But having trouble with what some skills and guardians do.
got this list from the previous posts

1: increase max HP
2: increase max SP
3: increase magic damage
4: increase heal rate with potions
5:
6:
7: lets you buy for less, sell for more
8: increase gained exp
9: dosen't have effect form poison,curse, blah blah , etc.
10: power up effect of ring when equip [suck a lot of hp,mp enemy have effect form poison,curse quicklier than dosen't use this guardian]
11: power up equipment(weapon,armor,shield,helm) [increase atk weapon,increase def armor,shield,helm] ***The Best of Guardian***
12: when you lvl up bonus point +3[when guardian lvl max]

can anybody complete it? or does anybody have an english guide to what the skills and guardian's do

Sorry to bump up this old topic but... has anyone made a little guide to the items, skills, and spells? it could really help since in the game I'm getting alot of these little white scroll/bone things..that have a symbol similar to "stomach" in Kanji.

@Suigyoken: I'm not sure but, maybe it is bones... or something. I don't know if you got it yet but, that girl adventurer that you meet sometimes, she sells some items that makes keys. And basically you can use 1 bone to make 1 key or something. Also, when in shop buying keys, you'll notice the price keeps raising right? Sell the NPC some bones it will lower a bit. Well... as for items, skills and spells... I can't help much... but the spell icon and the image on spellbook should be the same. So if you find another spellbook, check if you have the same icon in your spell list, and also check if your current spell is inferior to the number on the book. If you find a lv 1 skill, then find a lv 3 spellbook for example, you wont need a lv 2. If you already have lv 2 spell and find a lv 2 spellbook of the same magic, it won't do any effect. As for skills... most of them I guess, try them out and you'll know hehe. Cept the passive skills sometimes I don't even know myself. I know there is one that makes enemy drop more money, one that allows you to equip two handed weapon in 1 hand... ah sorry I can't remember.

@Suigyoken: I will like to help you with the puzzle but I am not able to view the image as it complained that hotlinking is disabled for the domain.

Crowns are only for the purpose of unlocking new weapons, shields, armour and/or magic for sale. Only when you gather all four crowns, they will be transformed into the DragonSlayer.

If I remember correctly, the ring you mentioned should be the poison ring.

@Suigyoken: this puzzle, though simple, can only be solved after you obtained the wing boots. The wing boots can be obtained in the mystic forest. The forest can only be accessed after you gotten the spectacles, which can be obtained after you defeated the spider boss in the maze.

The ring/bracelet should be the curse ring. Once hit, the enemy will have its attack power (this seems to be the most obvious effect, I am not sure about defence and accuracy) lowered for a short period of time.

Are you absolutely sure that this is the effect for this Guardian??? I had it maxed to the highest level, and it made no difference to the number of times I was poisoned by Poison Slimes in Egret Mountain.

If I remember it correctly, the 9th gardian enables you to have more points when you level up.
It might be the 4th gardian which looks like a plant that has this protection.

I think it's the 12th Guardian that gives you more level-up points, and the plant Guardian (4th) makes you heal more when you use potions...

Due to the new patch, it has a entrance to new dungeon before the last boss.

But the entrance doesn't appear to me this time (Last time or last year I can enter this dungeon). I don't know what wrong this time. I have patch to 1.04 and replay again to the last boss, the entrance should be there but not.
