Well as the name implies, starcraft ghost for the GC has been cancelled becuase it doesnt support internet. They said it was becuase the Game cube doesnt support online play... but when has the PS2 really been an online system (i know its capable but im talking about something else here...). Am i the only one that thinks theres more to this than just "oh it didnt have intarnet?" and for the record, im really mad

LoL, you should really change the topic. I thought it was the PC version. I think they canceled it because it would cost the company a lot of money to release their game on a system where it doesn't reach the majority of their audience.

Really they are canceling the whole thing? Or is it just nintendo?

Just the GC port, which is kind of ironic because Blizzard has been pushing for years that SC Ghost was supposed to be sooo different from the online PC games.

If they don't see a profit in the GC version simply because of Nintendo's lack of an online feature, I have no idea where the Hell they're coming from still promoting the PS2 version. Like another poster said, Sony has no standardized network. I think the only thing people still use the PS2's ethernet for is Final Fantasy XI.

From what I heard, Blizzard said most of their SC Ghost game was based on the online component and since there is no online service for GC, no point in wasting so much cash to convert SC Ghost to more offline just for the GC.

lol, starcraft is so ghetto, but one can't deny its greatness. By the way, I think the word you're looking for is firebat :D. Anyway, when I first read this thread's title I thought you were talking about the PC version too Fukujoushi. I'm not surprised they took the game off GC. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they took SC:Ghost right off the consoles and released it just for the PC. I don't really see how this game can be multiplayer though... 20+ people running around as stealth units? They might as well be a whole army with a neon sign flashing, "Shoot us!"

Now, if SC:Ghost allowed for people to CHOOSE what unit they wanted to be, that would be fricking insane! 400+ people running around as various SC units fighting each other with some bots... I would DEFINITELY play that. It'd be so scary as a marine to face a zergling rush though. Having a group of like 5 of your friends walk into this canyon and face like 30 zerglings. I'd probably be like "OH MY GOSH!! RUN!!!"

maybe we should do some kind of crappy sc hf thingie >_>
sc is easy to warez and easy enough to get a crappy cd key that works online

lol why did everyone think i was talking about PC version? firs of all, there is no PC version of SC ghost... normal SC is already out, cant really cancel that. and theres no official word on SC2 yet so it cant get canceleld before its announced. And finally i posted in the Nintendo board too! lololol neways ^^. In response to Hypersoup, MP ghost would have let you play more than just ghost. you could play marine, firebat, zerg units and protoss units, and drive vehicles. basically halo with different units. the trailer for it looked awesome.

but wow! a SC MMO shooter like Planetside would be AMAZING! Respawn would have to be 0 seconds though cuz people gonna die like crazy! ZERG RUSH!!!!

Didn't know that it was planned to be multi-platform. I thought that it was a Xbox exclusive until now.

anyhoo back to topic, I was really hoping for SC ghost to come out for GC cuz I have one ......ok its not my but its all the same
but doesn't it make you wonder why you really need a internet support for the game
cuz think about how the game is played
you're a lone soldier going in to the field...

Ironically, over three quarters of the people hanging out in the battle.NET forums are avid Gamecube players. Also, the largest percentage of StarCraft players are Asian people. You know; the same kind of people that preferred the Gamecube over the XBox?

If you ask me, this whole thing is one of two things:
The crew Blizzard put onto this game doesn't know how to program themselves out of a paper bag, because clearly; PS2 doesn't have a set online service either, and would require custom code to interface with battle.NET. So, why not code something like it for the Gamecube? Blizzard changed the GC version to a Revolution version (the motion sensing controls would be a nice touch.) and is under a strict NDA by Nintendo to not mention any Revolution titles that are in development.

Either way, I don't really care. The reason I was looking forward to Ghost was continuation of the storyline. Now all we get is a Tribes wannabee with Starcraft props and a meager single player storyline that looks to be partially ripped from Geist. (Seriously; read the storyline description on the SC:Ghost site and tell me that doesn't seriously scream 'Geist ripoff'.)

Blizzard is setting themselves up for a huge kick in the nuts. I hope it happens and I hope it knocks some much needed sense into the company that has been in a downwards spiral ever since Blizzard North went bye-bye.

hmmmm but i dont think a kick in the balls, will REALLY get Blizzard thinking in terms of a financial perspective. In all truth, Blizzard doesnt have to do crap right now and they would be making millions off Wolrd of Warcraft alone. Anything they release now will not have a significant profit value attached to it compared to what WOW brings in.

Does the gamecube even have an internet adapter? You're right, I think SC ghost is trying to be too much like Halo, and every other fps game. But anyways, I think blizzard should've stuck with SC 2. I mean sure they still have a large player base for SC, but the game is very aged. Prolly in a few years it can't even be run on Vista, lol. But, seriously games like AOE3 kick ass because of it's upgrade in the graphics department, althought ESO sucks compared to battle.net.

gamecube does have an internet adapter but it was made for Phantasy Star Online: Episode I&II

Correction: PSO I&II were made to make use of the Broadband and Modem Adapters, which existed prior to the title. (An yes; unlike the PS2, the Gamecube actually has a peripheral for dialup 56k users.)

Also, while the only big titles playable on the net are PSO:I&II and PSO:III (atleast; those are the only ones coming to mind right now), other games are able to use the Broadband Adapter for LAN play, like Mario Kart: Double Dash.

The problem with Gamecube's current online status lies in the fact that it doesn't have killer online titles, like the XBox has Halo or the PS2 has numerous FPS ones. Since a platform for the adapters never made its way into existence in the early days of the system, it became a bit too easy for developers to just conveniently 'forget' about online gameplay. A cheap excuse to not have to code proper networking code. (Distributed realtime architectures, which is what internet-based multiplayer games class as, are quite hard to design properly.)

Y'know, this doesn't surprise me. This entire generation, companies have shafted Nintendo and the GameCube for one reason for another, the first thing coming to my mind that I hate the most being Capcom's f*ck ups regarding Megaman Anniversary Collection and Resident Evil 4.

Oh another correction... the other game that came to knowledge that made use of the adapter was Phantasy Star Online: Episode III (I just remembered because I'm listening to one of my favourite tracks from the game^^;)

No, they SOLD Rare. Rare was owned by Nintendo until they started losing a lot of money near the beginning of this generation. So they sold it, and Microsoft bought it. It was never something they got shafted out of.

I kinda meant Nintendo as in nintendo buyers as in people like me who bought gamecubes because they wanted perfect dark zero among other things.
