Ever "discover" an anime series that no one else seems to be watching or know about? Or one that was sadly short-lived?

Personally I feel like one show in particular -- Monster Rancher -- should have had a better chance. Yeah and I've heard from people that it was just a rough workover of Pokemon (ugh) or Digimon but IT WASN'T. The show was actually pretty good tho the lead character Genki SUCKED and was annoying. The show was only on for about a year and a half where I live, and they showed only two-thirds of the series before it abruptly ended. From what I've heard, there was a whole third season of this never shown on north American TV but I havent' been able to find it.

It wasn't as good as Cowboy Bebop (IMHO) but it wasn;'t that bad. This was actually one of the last Saturday morning shows I followed. The animation backgrounds were awesome and most of the characters seemed pretty well thought out. The corresponding game has had two or three sequels and has a thriving fanbase, but the show itself seems to have fallen into some kind of TV Bermuda Triangle.

So, anyone ever heard of this? Or have a favorite show that mysteriously sank without a trace?

Well, I'm not sure how many people know this title...it call Heavenly War Shurato.

I really like it, it's like Saint Saiya but better in my opinion. I highly recommend it! :D
I first saw it on video, then I brought the import DVD from last year.
Anyone saw this?

There's an anime that no one seems to know called "Gokudo-kun Maniyuki." Even though I got the series, I only noticed it when a friend of mine spent the night at my place and we watched some anime, and it happened to be THE one anime that we watched. After that, he borrowed it until he finished the series, then returned them and I finished the series.

Another friend of mine asked if I had "Gasarocky" or something like that, but I've never even heard of it. He says it's a good anime, so I'll believe him.

TzuenDaniel ........... The anime your friend was talking about was probably Gasaraki - it's one I've been looking for for ages. It's licensed (I know because I have the first 4 episodes on dvd). I never found more episodes on disc, so if you ever find a torrent with the series gimme a shout will you? :) Your friend's right - it's very good (at least based on the first 4 episodes anyway).

Almost everyone I know with some anime experience have seen it, except me. I have it on discs, but never really been too interested in it.

older series before the DivX era is also probably into this "forgotten" categories ?I was looking for this one for a while, but when reading about it and asking some friends, it didn't seem that interesting anymore. But true. It's somewhat forgotten.. :p

It's like Slayers with a frantic guy instead of Lina Inverse..

.. and for the rest of you. I actually have Gasaraki in some so-so-quality. If interested, let me know. This release is really old, so don't expect too much, but if you really want it, I can help you. :D

Finally, my own favourite forgotten anime (well it's actually a hentai, but still), Buttobi CPU. It's really funny and it's more of super-ecchi than hentai. Don't think there's any actual genetalia showing in any scene, even though they are having sex. Oh, well. This is a must see for all ecchi/hentai people.. :D:D:D

Edit: Buttobi CPU is actuallt torrented >here< ;) (http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1755)

evr - thanks for the offer, but I'd hate to have to watch Gasaraki in low quality, the artwork in it was done so beautifully! I just checked the date on the box - you're right, it is old, from 1998. No wonder I can't find it... Oh well, just have to hope someone out there will do a decent rip sometime. Dang, time flies.

I highly recommend "Gankutsuoh" (a.k.a "The Count of Monte Cristo") by Studio Gonzo.

Gonzo announced the series as their new flagship show, succeeding "Last Exile" from last year. Pretty good storyline so far, and some very creative visuals...

I second that, Uchuu no kishi Tekkaman Blade, is my favourite anime of all time. The tragic story line is so well executed through the characters and music score.

One of those series where you wonder if the character is actually winng or losing after he defeats his enemy...

I would have to say elf princess Raine. At least I think that's what it was called, it was only a couple of episodes long, and then apparently the studio lost its funding. Deeply hilarious, although nobody knows what I'm talking about when I bring it up...

Hmm... Grander Musashi. It's about a kid who becomes a fishing master. There's two seasons and it used to be airred on AXNasia during 1998. It's also thought me a lot about fishing techniques and theory.

By this I presume you also mean Voltes V. it's possible to buy some overpriced and dubious quality dvd's on ebay of this from time to time. I never really saw much of it and wouldn't mind seeing it again. But frankly other robots like Daimos and Combattler are higher on my list. Not that much higher I guess though.

I remember Shurato, and yes it was like Saint Seiya, but no its story was worse not just because of all the annoying characters. Come on people better art isn't better anime

Two names immediately top my list:
Iria: Zeriam the animation
Project A-ko

Iria was one of those early-mid 90's sci fi OVAs. It was based on a live action (which I heard was terrible) and followed the story of several bounty hunters. Iria, the story's heroine, seeks to exact revenge on the death of her brother. I really don't remember much of the story very well, except that she use a shotgun that bounced along side her 12 times when she was running... then she picked it up and shot something.

Project A-ko was made in the late 80s (and the soundtrack reflects that) and is the story of three girls: A-ko, B-ko, and C-ko (very original). The orignal movie was originally planned as a hentai, but that just never got off the ground due to the fact that the director had so much fun making comedy. The thing that made the movie shine was that it was a parody of many series up until that point. There's Ranma-esque stuff, Fist of the North Star, Voltron, Macross, Captain Harlock, GX999, etc. etc. The references are amazing.

Basic synopsis: Every day, A-ko and C-ko are late for school. Every morning, they end up running to make it on time. A-ko, however, is not your ordinary schoolgirl. She has super human strength and speed. If it weren't for the restrictive bands on her arms, she could kill things even easier. Thus, the morning sprint towards school is far from normal. B-ko is A-ko's love rival (apparently they fight over C-ko, who is as innocent as a 5 year old). They fight every morning, and since B-ko lacks A-ko's strength, she comes up with all sorts of odd mech concoctions to defeat A-ko. This doesn't really work.

Then the alien ship staffed completely by women and lead by a woman who is more sober while drunk shows up. The possibilities are endless. That's just the first movie. The rest of the OVAs weren't as good, but just as entertaining. :D

Favorite forgotten anime... there are lots, but currently there's one anime on my mind - Alien 9. Probably because I'm watching it all over again on an anime channel over here, hehe.

Although the anime OAV is only 4 episodes, it's pretty nice - nice and disturbing, haha! I wish I could get my hands on the manga, though.

The story's set in the near future wherein aliens have landed on the earth. Three schoolgirls from an elementary school are assigned to battle the aliens that seem to constantly land on their school grounds. They combat the menace by using aliens themselves, symbiotes - borgs, as they call it - which are helmet-like creatures that attach to their head.

It may seem like a light-hearted, comical anime, at first but as the story progresses, the mood becomes darker and intense.

Too many unanswered questions in the end of the OAV though. Wish they'd make more episodes, yaaaargh.

* Irresponsible Captain Tylor - pretty old, and not often mentioned but very, very good. (at least as far as the main series was concerned) Also had one of the best ways to send an anti-war message in the last part of the series - more effective than anything Ive seen in, say, Gundam SEED.

* Gestalt - the manga was fairly long running but they only came out with 1 OAV - premise seemed pretty interesting.

some of you guys mentioned some that came to my mind so i won't repeat but to make my list short(sooo many i could name) here is a few; Elf Princess Rain, Magic Knight Rayearth, Angelic Layer, Tokyo Babylon, Blue Submarine #6, Venus Wars, Key The Metal Idol and Jubei-Chan. Slayers! I only recall watching the first half of the first season, but it's exceptional if my memory serves me.

Magic Knight Rayearth: Plain awesome. I remember myself falling in love with Hikaru's fully grown sword.

There are four series that immediately come to mind :
Ginga Tetsudo 999 1-113 (Occurs after Space Symphony Maetel, in the Leijiverse timeline.)
Uchuu Kaizoku Captain Harlock 1-42 (The greatest space pirate hero of them all!)
Waga Seishun no Arcadia : Mugen Kidou SSX 1-22 (Harlock's youthful days, occurs after the movie.)
Shin Taketori Monogatari : Sen-Nen Joou 1-42 (Prequel to Maetel Legend, When Promethium still had a kind heart.)

Classic Leiji Matsumoto stuff that has faded into obscurity, however, it still maintains a small but loyal cult-following today. Some people dislike the animation style but I absolutely love this stuff!

there was this one particular anime that i liked to watch again.
i don't know the title since it has been localized on my place.

but i'll be descriptive as much as possible, and it may have been already introduced in the previous posts, so bear with me ~

there are two main characters in the show, a boy and a girl. The boy is very skillfull in using a soccer ball and usually his main weapon when attacked. The girl is his partner? ( i forgot, but they are always together ). Both of them are chasing a tea pot? that can create a time warp. Jumping through it sends them to another time and place. Usually historic at that.
The villain looks like a short, fat, chieftain. He carries a magical lamp that can summon a very huge genie ~ ( very green to boot, with a red cape. And goes around flying carrying his master ( the evil chieftain ) with his annoying, patented "ha ha ha ha ~" laugh.
Other characters include a daring arabian prince who always dares to protect his princess ( who at times, clueless as to what happens to her surroundings ).

i think it goes like "time travel ......."
that's much details i can give ~

oh, and i would like to see that animated peter pan also, as nostalgic as it sounds ~

Angelic Layer.... I just downloaded the first 22 chapters of the manga and finsiehd reading those. It's really interesting but it's a pity the series is so short.

I wasn't a big fan of the Angelic Layer anime. The manga, on the other hand, I loved. That seems to be a general trend for me with CLAMP manga...

Casshan: Robot Hunter. I think that was one of the first animes I ever saw at like 3am on Scifi back when they played anime. They loosely based that new live action movie Casshern on it, which itself is pretty good though not all that similar.

Iria is another great one, and though I've never seen or heard anything about the live action, I know it exists.

Oh yeah, I also enjoyed Galaxy 999. Don't see many people talk about that one.

I feel Gasaraki was overshadowed by more popular series when it is deserving of more.

Hmmmm Flame of Recca comes to mind. That seems easily forgotten and overshadowed by animes such as Inyuyasha and etc.

Gasaraki cerainly deserved more attention, but it was rather complicated and in depth.

I suspect Juuni Kokki was a bit slow and complex initially, which probably put people off, but it really pays off big time later.

If Yumeria is one of the forgotten, then that's one for my list. The rest are Yaiba, Niea under 7, and Ajimu Beach Story. Though Ajimu Beach Story is kinda new (2002-2003 i think), its really rare, i've been looking for this for quite some time now. So if anyone knows where to find this, drop me a line through pm.
