Why cosplay if you dont even look like the character you are supposed to look like?

It's for fun. Just like people dressing up for Halloween.

I look at it as a love for Anime or a particular character. I am going to cosplay once I get my costume done. I know that I'm not going to look exactly like the char I want to protray but I love the idea and just want to cut loose.

Like said above, it's about having fun. The work involved and the fun of just not worrying about how to look for a change and just letting go.

Cosplay means "costume play," or to play dress up. If you not look like character, you still able to dress and act as. When look like actual character you do, something terribly wrong there is.

cosplay is about portraying a character. Its hard to really "look" like most anime characters, so most of the attention is usually spent on the costume. For me, the costume is whats important about cosplay, the attitude is a close second. Its stupid to cosplay as a character you dont know or dont like. Even if youre attractive, dont bother to call it cosplay unless you have those criteria. (like the girl who posted a crappy unfinished "kasumi cosplay" in the cosplay section, thats not cosplay imo. thats just a way for that girl to get attention for herself. If you dress as kasumi for example, people should see you as a version of kasumi, you should do as much as possible to look like kasumi. And kasumi is a 3-d character, so its easier for people to "look" like her.)

For me, i try not to compare my face to an anime character, but instead go by body type. I personally try to match body type as closely as possible.

So yea, ABC's of cosplay, Attitude, Body type, Costume.

I'm not even sure that's physically possible... I mean, just imagining someone actually looking like... yeah, it's just weird to think about.

Cosplay's just something fun to do.

I think the key to a good cosplay (and by "good", I mean actually looking like the character) is to first find a character that you kindof resemble and then go from there.

i'd like to pride myself as a cosplayer imo the costume comes first, one that most people forget or dont go along with is "character" if you dont intend on assuming the character of the costume in question...plz for the love of all that is KEY and CLAMP dont do it...cause when i went to otakon i saw many many MANY FF7 Advent children and the granted they all were really good dont get me wrong...but they all JUST SCREAMED "EBAY"...no i dont have much time my self to make costumes myself but geez dont go out and buy the WHOLE thing....do some of it yourself...thats part of the fun...and BTW...out of all...ALL the Tifa Lockhearts....the one GUY that did Tifa looked the best *cringes at the sight of overweight Tifas*

Cosplay is one of the strange things we import from Japan.

Cosplay is based on the costume. Hence Costume play which it's derived from. To look like an anime character, it's near impossible unless you quite literally have the perfect facial structure, pale skin and great body. As long as you can look good in the costume you make, that's what matters.
