* use one of the joiners like HSJoin
* by hand on Windows : copy /b file.avi.000 + file.avi.001 + file.avi.002 file.avi

* note that some videos' parts are numbered starting from .000 , and HJSplit doesn't like that. In this case please rename them .000 -> .001 , .001 -> .002 and so on.

Argh, the same mistake again. The videos had extension .avi as I downloaded them, but now I checked them and in reality they should be .ogm. Just rename them and install an OGM demuxer, should be included with any "codec pack". Or just use an alternative media player like mplayer or VLC, they have support for OGM and Matroska built-in.

I will re-torrent all Mao Kobayashi stuff (and more is coming up) in a few days, just patience - can't seed right now.

Meanwhile, if you have more-or-less progressed partial downloads, please ensure that you saved them in
"sparse" or "pre-allocated" mode, because I will split it in separate parts, so you can continue from partially saved
files without losing any data. Azureus seems to do this (sparse) by default, on BitTornado GUI, go to
"prefs" / Advanced / Disk allocation type, select "sparse" , on CLI/curses client, use option --alloc_type "sparse"
and it should re-arrange pieces properly. Are there many people with partial downloads?

Phew, all eleven videos I had are up, the only remaining known video of her is IMOD-0002 which I wasn't able to locate yet, and of course her new video coming out in July.

The day after tomorrow, I'm going away for two weeks (unfortunately not for a vacation), and may not have proper internet access. I have dowloaded "Ripe fruit":three files (292969kb, 292969 kb and 143638 kb) when I joined them I obtained and avi video I cannot reproduce. Since there has been problems before I changed to OGM but nothing happens could you help me please?

The file is definitely AVI/DivX5. Are you just missing a codec or is the file completely corrupt? If you're concerned about possible download corruption, please verify files with any MD5 checksum tool (this maybe: http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/md5sums/ ? ). The downloaded files should be :

If one of the downloaded files is too short or has wrong MD5 checksum, you would need to redownload, I guess. If the fragments are OK, but the resulting file is too short, the joiner must have screwed up, try to rename files to start from .001 instead of .000.

I will post the MD5s of all files pretty soon.

Pure White and others :
I'm currently moving all my files from rapidshare to megaupload, because rapidshare now deletes them after just 7 days of inactivity, and this is way too short - many files already disappeared, including pure white. Unfortunately, since megaupload has different allowed file size, all new files will be splitted to 250MB, thus it will be different fragments than rapidshare.

The only three videos left now and still complete are "Ripe Fruit", "Early Spring" and "Mao 12 I", you can download them while they're still there, but will disappear as soon as moved to megaupload. All videos by umino are still OK because of the premium account.

By default, Windows hides known fiel extensions, and it's best to disable this option: in the "Ordner Options / View" , uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types".

Allright, I'm going to seed Mao 12 and Shin Bishoujo Zukan, which seem to have most peers. For the others, reseeding is often pointless, because there are just 1 or 2 peers, who will leave quite soon after they're done, making it very ineffective. On the other hand, RS/Megaupload links are all still active.

The best thing would be to gain more peers. If someone feels like advertising these torents on another forums, maybe on some large Japanese or Chinese p2p boards, it will be appreciated. Preferably with a hint that these torrents are old and will be reseeded gradually.

The movie has a resolution 720x480, and an aspect ratio 16:9 (the making-of is 4:3), so your player must support aspect setting (Windows Media Player doesn't, VLC and MPlayer do), othervise video will play somewhat distorted.

mcdeint is the "motion-compensated deinterlacer" that was added to mplayer/mencoder not so long ago. It tries to detect motion from difference between two fields of a frame (or also neighbouring frames on higher quality setting), and then restore the second field of the picture using data from the appropriately shifted second video field.

This method indeed gives much better results than the conventional deinterlacers, even at the lowest quality setting, but unfortunately it's very time-consuming. On my Athlon 3500+, mcdeint only does 6 fps at most from NTSC DVD source, and that's without XviD or H.264.

The basic usage in mencoder is to add following to the video filter section :


-vf yadif=3:0,mcdeint=0:0,framestep=2

yadif expands every interlaced frame into two full frames with missing lines interpolated, then mcdeint does motion detection between these and restores missing lines in the first one, finally framestep removes the now uneeded second frame. What remains is the first frame, now deinterlaced.

Since the deinterlacing takes so much time, if you have some free space, it's reasonable to encode deinterlaced video with a lossless codec like huffyuv and then encode that with XviD or H.264. For this video, lossless version took around 45GB, or 30GB/h for NTSC DVD video.

So, as example, my encode script for the latest video "Tabun Otona?" :

Alltogether it took me like 16-18 hours, so it's not for everyday use :p . Hopefully they will find ways to optimize it.

P.S. -vf dsize=4/3 is needed to set proper aspect ratio, which x264 will also save in the video stream. -noaspect is quite important - it disables aspect ratio setting in the input video, otherwise the picture will be scaled (720x480 -> 720x540 for DVDs) before entering video filters and encoder, which would make any deinterlacing attempts futile.
