Do I need to buy ANOTHER DS? >_>
As much as I like DS, I think I'll pass this one out until price gets cheaper <_<

Once I have some money, I'll be switching my current DS for this. I'd prefer something lighter.

Yay another ds to buy hell I've already got four of them so this smaller version will be for that insecure guy in the corner. Damn I have too much money to throw around.

Am i the only one here who thinks that they could have waited another year with this. I mean come on even the gba didn't change this quick. I won't be changing my DS. This also throws away my point about nintendo (gamers first then money) the design money could have gone to gamedevelopment instead. I am disappointed with them. BUT HEY IF THEY WANT TO DO AN IPOD ON THIS (every time a new design) i'm still not switching. I mean i own all the gb versions but this is too soon.
ok i have screamed enough thx for reading.

On the contrary!!!
The DS has already established itself as a fine contender to the gaming industry, compared to the psp.. which has no good games for it.. IMO
only thing the DS didn't have was the Eye-candy that the psp has.
with the dslite it now has teh eye-candy that the psp has.
the ds when it first came out was a hardcore pure gaming device, with very slight attention to style, however the psp has style which is why it may be more popular. IMO

i didn't see, but is the Screen smaller?, Like what they did with the GBA micro.
this looks good though, i dont have a DS but i was thinking of getting one for Mario 64 ^^

Screen size will stay the same. To cut back on the size, they pretty much moved the mic to the middle and the battery light thing to the side, then cut down on the empty space the original DS had. (from the bottom and around the sides)
Now PSP fanboys can't say we have a bulky piece of device (even though it wasn't that bad)
Thoguh people will be a bit pissed off about this (i am slightly), Nintendo is offering the original DS at a cheaper price and will still sell alongside the new DS. People who have recently bought a DS will be the ones most angry about this news, but hey, the original DS is still a nice-looking device and i still see people walking around with the original GBA.

Give me a proper analog stick, Nintendo, then I'll care. Then I'll care.

I just don't like where the mic is. Although four brightness settings is tempting. Is the screen reflective like the GBA?

Fix'd ;)
Screen should be the same as the DS's but the different levels of brightness should help those who feel that its too dark to play with the current DS.

Yeah, all the porevious functionality is retained, including GBA. The screens are the same size, but now sport the quality of the Micro screen...in other words, VERY bright.
The stylus now slides in horizontally instead of vertically at the top of the unit....wonder if the stylus that comes with it will be longer?
One more thing, the GBA slot now comes covered with a removeable piece that keep the unit flush and smooth looking even without a GBA game in there (likely for all the DS owners who have no intention of getting a GBA game, esp. in Japan)

Uh dude, Nintendo Sold out of DS's, their warehouses were empty of the old ones. I remember reading something about a shortage in Japan a couple weeks ago. Waiting a year would have been murder. I'm willing to be that they had intended for it to come out later, but when the DS started outselling everything, they were stuck.

Actually, it was just that they couldn't meet the demand for the DS in Japan. They were producing new units, but they couldn't keep up. The announcement of the DS Lite has nothing to do with their shortage, because they are still producing the old models.

the psp is an ugly piece of crap anyway, and this just makes it look twice as bad. Am i the only one who thinks sony have no style when it comes to console design, or are we living in a world of bad taste

Hmm a touch screen that still scratches easily and a hinge that will eventually cause the ribbon cable inside to wear out just like it does on laptops and phones.. But hey electronics are disposable so we all just buy another when this one fails in a few years.. I'll stick with my non stylish yet non hinged psp. It may not have a big library. But my white Japanese model looks far better then the US black one.. In all a honesty I actually prefer GBA SP over a ds..

I've been ignoring the DS because it wasn't compact enough but with this design, there's a chance I'll consider it. I am surprised they are dishing out the new design this soon. I think they could have given more time to the drawing board before finalizing the final specs on the thing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GUG21OyNNkHilarious subtitles on that one. Had to fight hard to pay attention to just what their saying rather than reading the subtitles again for giggles.
That's some wicked kanji handwriting recognition software they showed there. Would be interesting to see if Nintendo releases an internet surfing software domestically. View pr0n from a DS at the local Starbucks, that'd be the bomb.

They're having Opera, an internet browser, done for DS.
lmfao at the youtube.
of course we know the subtitles are fake... well maybe 90% of it except the part about the psp sucking and stuff lol
Who knows what nintendo is thinking... for all we know they could be just marketing schemes but on the other hand maybe they do get new ideas to improve handheld consoles... its like version 1.0 then later release version 2.0

Opera is an internet browser, and Nintendo has licensed them to make a version of it for the DS, aka something that would be deemed "official".

Skye, the problem is the link you provided has nothing to do with Opera nor Nintendo (unless there's some hidden link/message in there I don't know about?). ^^;

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/1310AP_Japan_Nintendo.htmlYeah, that post pretty much reiterated what the newscast from the first post was talking about. What I was wondering about was if Nintendo will release an internet software for the US/UK (kinda likely if Opera's doing the software).
