Yet, a lot of people who went to E3 this year and played on both, actually preferred the Wii over the PS3.

I havent played either of them but Wii does look the more 'fun' console between the two.

The wii really is cheaper (by a lot) and seems like so much more fun. I can't wait till it comes out and i'm all over reserve like cheese on a cracker.

Since I'm a Nintendo fanboy, I'm definitely going to get the Wii, but I'm having gripes about the controller and name still. I'll probably conform by the end of its generation, but the feelings at first will be utter disgust.

As for the PS3, I would get that over the 360. It has too much Japanese Gaming support not to get.

but ill probably choose ps3 because well nintendo has way too many sequels. even final fantasy isn't a sequel to another they have different charaters. and their game are way too kiddy, but i am intrested in rising sun, and supersmash bros brawl. but it all comes down when it comes out.

Nintendo might re-use franchise characters, but meanwhile Final Fantasy rehashes 90% of the battle system, all the spells and summons and always has Chocobos around. Even if FF does have different characters, the archetypes are completely interchangable. Rinoa = Aerith. Cloud = Squal. Zell = Barret. Irvine = Cid. Just to name a few comparisons between FF7 and FF8 alone.

This is exactly what I was thinking...or maybe Sony should be a pimp, with the PS3 fanboys being the whores. Either way, you would think the Wii would be depicted as the more well rounded offering while the PS3 would be the one with all the flash with little substance...

Who's fighting over the console? We're simply talking about this commercial and how it fits into the general marketing strategy each respective company has taken thus far (or how it doesn't fit in)....as such, actual hands on experience with each console is unnecessary....

Fair enough. It wasn't meant as bashing either you and your opinion, or the PS3.
Just clearing up common misconceptions like Nintendo 'sequelizing' and producing kiddy games. OK, so the buying-on-looks-alone was going a bit far, but I really was thinking you were raising it as a point to buy a PS3.

I don't think he was talking about the games specifically. Sony's been selling this thing as the be all, end all, sun-around-which-all-of-your-other-entertainment-equipment-revolves-around, and I doubt most people will use even HALF of what Sony's crammed into that box. It lost it's focus as a gaming console (which is what most people are buying it for) and tries to be everything to everyone (which is ironic considering Sony execs said that that very mentality is what causes other companies to fail). For example, they included hardware that allows it to become a media hub for your entertainment center, but its overall capabilities in that respect are relatively limited when compared to a computer retasked to do the job. People will be paying for major functions that less than half of them are likely to use...having those functions help make the thing look more impressive, though, from a marketing standpoint. That's the point I think he's trying to make.

Yeah I was speaking toward the fact that all I needed was a gaming console not an all in one. Most people tend to have my same mentality in this situation. Simply put I've seen the ps3 for what it is and I have no interest in pretty pictures. As Bubblemonkey said most people wouldn't use half the stuff in there thus why am I going to spend 600 U.S. on things I don't need. I expect one thing from my console, a fun gaming experience at a good price but unfortunately sony isn't giving that to me.

Sony tried to sell the PSP as the ultimate PORTABLE media station....where is it now? The same might happen to the PS3, unless Sony's banking on the notion that people WANT to spend 700 bucks total to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII, and that's not smart business AT ALL. They're fundamentally different to begin with, so why would there be a need for comparison between the two?

A more appropriate question would be PS3 or Xbox360, since both systems are actually occupying the same "niche".

because a large percentage of the consoles are bought by parents and parents really dont give a crap about anything but the price and MAYBE how it looks. Plus, no matter what you say, they are still both video game consoles, and are products of the same industry, and sales of one of them affect the other.

I still tink that Nintendo has this one won and that Sony should be a little worried. Does Sony really think that many people have 600 bucks to spend on their console. I mean if you buy a PS3 in a store there's always the tax they charge, extra controller, game, and other assesories one might get. That's gonna be a lot of money on a console. The Blu-Ray thing is price worthy compared to actuall Blu-Ray players but still.
