It is said that close activities such as reading, computers, video games, television, etc. put stress on our eyes and attributes to myopia.

Nearsighted - You can easily see things that are close to you, but distant objects appear blurred.
Farsighted - You can easily see distant objects, but objects close to you appear blurred.

So how is your eyesight, and do you attribute it to anything?

I am nearsighted in my left eye and farsighted in my right eye.

My eye sight is perfect, at the moment, but i can see in the future (due to the number of computers I use <-[strainign the eyes]) that will most likely change ^_^. *sigh* *They just need to last me until the next FF comes out >.<*

My dad's nearsighted and my mom's farsighted, so I was hoping I would come up with a happy middle and have perfect vision...no such luck. I ended up inheriting my dad's nearsightedness....thanks, dad.

I've got lesser nearsightedness, due to my computer,tv,video games, reading books hobbys;)
But instead of glasses I use only by day time monthly contact lenses.

I'm missing 0.50/10 both eyes. That basically turns out i see equally blurred from any distance, lol
Tough, that little blur helps a lot in decreasing the distance that i can read stuff like signs, so i'll go for nearsighted.

(fs aa 4x on all the time! Now i need more video ram to load the high res textures and i'm fine.)

I'm nearsighted. Wore glasses for a while but stopped. Tried contacts and they didn't work for me. I am getting laser eye surgery in a few years (when my eyes "stop growing").

i have a nearsight wich is that i can't see far away

it's getting worse but i'll do my best to keep it good and someone said carrots can help you save your sight but not improve and it's true that's how i survived all those years of video games,internet,..etc

1) I don't play sports
2) I believe it was Derek Jeter (Major League Baseball player if you didn't know) who had Laser Eye surgery and he says it was the best thing he's ever done. So what exactly are the "unhealthy effects" you speak of?

some people who did this was doing sports and they were in the army so it's worse than normal sports

so they didn't take to much effort in the feild eventually they get dizzy more often than people who didn't do it

a lot of people agree with this fact i'm not sure maby you should ask a doctor

That doesn't make any sense. If some people agree and some disagree then it's not a proven fact, only speculation. I will of course discuss any possible problems with my doctor before I go through with the surgery, but something like dizziness certainly isn't going to stop me from finally having perfect vision. (And I don't consider that symptom to be "unhealthy" by the way.)

I used to have above average eyesight... but now thanks to games and what not, I'm slightly nearsighted. Slightly as I only need them when I'm sitting away from the board in class. The glasses I use (when I have to) are pretty weak... they're only one step away from being "for show". But it's okay if I'm slightly near sighted... when I get old, it'll work out just fine. :P

About the laser eye thing... last time I heard about it, it is short term. You can only have it done once in your life. And about 10 years later, your eyesight will start going bad again.... of course, things might have changed now...

Well I can gladly say that I have a good vision but due to pc, tv and other stuff I don't think it will last long in this way. The only interesting fact that happened to my eyes was that they changed from bright blue to blue-green (nowadays ppl can't guess my eyes colors, they wheter say it's blue or green and when I tell them to look closer they stay confused cuz it's both colors at the same time :neko: )

-4.0 on both eyes

open a random image in photoshop/fireworks/whatever and do a gaussian blur set to 4.0 ...that's kinda how i see everything that's more than about 20cm away ^^

(it's actually worse cause i see some rotated ghosting, too (0.5% off to down-right [to simulate it, double the image with 5% alpha and move it about 5-10px into the direction of 5o'clock)

alexthestampede

Curse you and your sample picture, Atachi, you managed to make me realize i might get a new pair of glasses, and to wear them... Ugh, i even "antialias" your Unlimited Loli Works sign.
Indeed, i need to get a to do list, and put on that list "new glasses" :-\

edit: lol, cleaning the glasses with my shirt did an awesome job, now i have also the bloom effect, and a need for speed like blur -_-'

MapleSky
09-24-2006, 09:27 PM
im near sighted, my eyes were pretty bad since grade 10 here. Factors are probably due to inheritance from my parents and such poor light source I have in my room.

someone once said that by looking at an intense green (example: a leaf) source of colour everyday could really improve your eye sight. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

Kyuubifox
09-24-2006, 09:29 PM
I inherited my fathers nearsightedness. A few years ago my eyes were even better than average, some relatives of me even praised me, how good my eyes are, and thanks to dad, I lost that wonderful sight x_x.
I have a vision corrective glass, but I'm too lazy to use it regularly, so it does only temporary improvements.

I'm nearsighted and my vision's value is -5 in both eyes, so it's very low. While swimming with friends, I can't really find them in the pool, because I'm so blind! :/ I think, I must afford contact lenses, since it's silly to wear glasses while being at pool. Anyway, I always take off my glasses, when I'm reading.

I'm astigmatic and beside laser surgery (that costs an absurdity), I have to wear lens.

As it is not a heavy form of astigmatism (-2 the right eye, -2.5 the left) I wear lens only when driving (required on the license) or reading or using the PC (to not strain my eyes).

I am nearsighted (myopia) I can't see what's really far. I checked in the hospital my vision because I haven't checked it for 2 years and I was worried that I feel it got worse. After checking they told me that my glasses that I'm wearing are good and I don't need to change them. Also they told me I feel it got worse because I have allergy. My eyes become dry and I feel it's eachi when I set infornt of my PC and play games for the whole day. Who does something crazy like that? I do...

Soon getting a job and I hope thing will get better. I don't want to cure my allergy because I don't like to use eyes medicians. I do take care of them by using a traditional way.

For some strange reason, recently everything is a little bit blurry to me :

I also remember getting the burning eye drops that were suppose to help some how. People almost always have a stronger left or right eye, but most of the time it's barely noticeable.

It's just like having a strong right-hand because of handedness, or a stronger left-leg for leggedness.

Did you also know that it has never really been scientifically proven that computing worsens your sight?

I have 20/20 vision, but the problem with my eyes,
is the light itself. I have really light sensitive eyes...
meaning I need to wear specially designed sunglasses,
(costing over $150 a pair) even if it's and overcast day
...>_<...and really dark ones at that. I almost feel
like Cyclops...

Not that I hate it all the time, but it hurts to look at
anything luminated to a normal person...so I usually
keep things dim enough for me to look, but bright
enough for me to actually see what's going on...

Plenty of eye problems, there's bairly anything wrong with right.
Though left i can only see 1/4th of what im supposed too see.
Then there's the problem of my left eye shifting most of the time.
It happens often, and its even worse when im tired -_-
All in all, depth perception isnt realy good either o.x

ChronoSphere
04-09-2007, 05:48 AM
I don't think that spending long time in front of the monitor affects your eyesight. Why you ask? Well, mainly because my eyesight has been the same for 3 years now and I'm spending a lot (read: most) of my free time in front of my PC. There are also people who spend far more time in front of the monitor and don't have to wear glasses <.<

I think it has more to do with your genes. There are people who have weak eyes ( = get affected by the monitor radiation easily), I for example inherited my bad eyesight from my mother while she inherited it from her grandmother. My eyesight got worse with every year and finally stopped on a certain level. Now it doesn't improve nor get worse...

erm... I would vote nearsighted but regardless of that I have blurred vision in my left eye. No idea how but I damaged the top 25% layer of my cornea in that eye. I'll tell you one thing, it's much more painful than having your family jewels kicked. Apparently the eye has the highest concentration of nerves. I wasn't about to argue with the optician who told me that fact.

Ever since then every now and again I damage that layer from just simply opening my eye whilst waking up and blurring my vision in that eye for a few days.

I developed nearsightness very early on and it's not helped by the fact I put a lot of strain on my eyes by having reading material way too close to my eyes. Three monitor diagonal lengths away isn't happening I'll tell you that. :D I don't think I'm much more than one away from it at the moment

I'm also near-sighted, but it's not bad enough to need glasses (except if I sit at the far back of a classroom or something).

And my optometrist has actually said my vision has been improving for the past three years, and he's not sure why. ^^

If you're older than 22 years old, chances are that your myopia won't be progressing any further. Even if it does, it probably won't progress by more than 1 dioptre.

Nestormentor
05-24-2007, 09:37 AM
^ I've heard that one too.

I also read from an optician's website that myopia might begin to get better when you grow older. But it's also said that it's not going to happen if you were young when it was realized that you're nearsighted. I was 11 years old when I got my first glasses so guess my eyesight isn't going to get better from this, if that claim is true.

I would like to use contact lenses on some occasions (partys, when going to bar, etc.) but my eyes are too dry so I can't. My friend went to LASIK a couple of years ago and he has been very satisfied with the results, so maybe some day in future I'll get my eyesight fixed the same way.

Both mine and my father used to have perfect vision. But having had a desk job for the past 8 years, my father (mid 40's) has begun to develop nearsightedness to the degree that he had to get glasses for driving. I've noticed things getting blurry in the distance when they used to not be that way, but I spend a lot more time glued to my computer these days too. =( Time to creep outdoors.

Heh....my eyesight is quite weird. I'm near-sighted in my right eye and far-sighted in my left. The doctor said it was quite weird when he first checked them. Of course, it doesn't really affect my performance on things because I've never noticed a difference. I've gotten into the habit of wearing glasses though since the doctor said the way my eyes were they would wear out faster since each eye was having to overexert itself due to the other. That sounds not fun at all.
At least you've got an excuse to wear an eye-patch!

Hence the avatar choice.

I used to be able to see each individual leaf on a tree, but now I have to wear glasses if I want to see the details of something on the other side of the room, but if I wear those glasses at the computer for too long, I get a headache.

And she is blonde, and I've got brown hair.
Differences aside, I liked her sad expression and thought it she accurately portrayed me.

Last time I had an eye test (mid last year) my eyes were perfect. Really hope they stay that way as I'm hoping to be a pilot.

That's new to me. Why is that? Finnish laws? You can't drive because your sight is too damaged or what?

According to my Doctor, I am legally blind in my right eye. And extremely nearsighted in both. Anything more than 3-4 inches away is really blurry.

Some Dr.'s told me I need regular surgery because it was a weak muscle from birth, some others said I need laser, and one said I should get an eye patch to strenghthen my bad eye.

So i don't know who to believe, I'll probably go see a specialist soon. But right now I make do with contacts (no more glasses for me) and I can see pretty good with them, at least with my left eye.

Still not getting any better! But that might be caused by staying up late with no lights on except for the computer to dazzle me blind. I think it might be getting worse....hm....

I have the most pathetic vision.
And I choose to blame it all on those late night study sessions and of course my unbreakable reading habits.

My left eye is okay, but my right eye is nearsighted. I also suffer from mild strabismus which, even though barely noticeable most of the time, deals a huge blow to my self-esteem.

For someone who's been using PCs for 8 years and sits in front of about 8 hrs a day, I'd say my eyes are Hercules incarnate. Don't need glasses at all as of yet.

I'm nearsighted. I was very surprised when doc said that my vision remained the same (year after last check, nonstop pc usage), but it still sucks a lot.
Also lately i've been bothered by the floaters. I just noticed them once and now can't get them out of my head. i've had them for as long as i can remember, but i don't remember having this many... i'm now a bit scared and very depressed about it..

I used to have perfect vision until the last 2-3 years or so. Now I am nearsighted, I have trouble on the road and cannot see signs and run red lights on accident. Need to get glasses, but my mom has not bought them for me yet.:sorry1:

I became nearsighted at the age of a primary schoolchild.
However, the eyesight does not worsen afterward, though I use the PC very hard over 10 years.
