Maybe a little bit of Hongfire history from some of the veteran members would help new members understand Hongfire and feel comfortable.

Some long time members who've been in and out of Hongfire probably can benefit from this too, so they'll know what they've missed.

Since people like to talk about the good old times, why not share:)

*a little guideline to help clarify the understanding of Hongfire history would be posting some links to the thread/posts, and or members name to prior events you're talking about to help those who are actually interested to "go back in time" and see what happened once again:kakashi: [yes this icon is too cool:kakashi: :kakashi: :kakashi: would be even better if theres an anime version of it!]

Just out of curiosity... what are you looking for?
A comprehensive and objective view of the history of Hongfire?
...or just people and/or events that happened?

You can read the original Girls thread. Most of the veteran members (join time 2004) and the members that left once actively participated in that thread.

Like DrWise' "Asshole Members"-thread (I think that was the name) or HF-GLAD.

Alternatively you can read this revolutionary thread by Maria Renard (http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16653), where everyone put much effort into write long treatises on the reformation of HF, which ultimately led to ... nothing. Or the (in)famous hoho-thread (http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16253), but I can't seriously recommend you to read more than the first couple of pages, because more will probably mentally scar you for life. Anyway, both threads shook the grounds of HF. Really.

Thank you very much:kakashi:

Unfortunately the thread that lead to the re-opening of hoho after it's first closure seems to be gone, too. So this related thread (http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25338) has to do for now.

Well... back when rep just got implemented and torrents were up and kicking.
Rep race was all the rage. (lot's of positive energy there)
but after that... anyone who race for rep would be labeled the infamous rep whore.

and oya...
You can never get banned in 2k4
In fact I think this whole banning shizzle started b/c the staff just can't deal with that "Prinny" anymore.

And yes, no one ever cared if u spam back then.

now... ppl get sarcastic, and mods became more strict.
Ppl keep their sharp eyes out for the gossipers, rule breakers (unconscious or conscious) and fame seekers.
Ready to take'em down and blast'em into smithereens.

Kinda make HF like one of those online 1st person shooter - ppl obtain their ego through destroying others.

I hate HF lurkers LOL, they snipe you out of nowhere, and make me go wtf!??!?! :D

Pre-October Hongfire.com started in the 25th of Febuary 2003 and was reborn on August 23, 2004 to implement the V-bulletin system. The community started and basically that's all there was to it. As told by Sphie:

Hongfire 'used' to be supposedly a fansub group, but eventually became a tracker (it looked much like datorrent post-august 2004, aka just a tracker with no forum integrated to that very tracker like it is atm (though there wfas a forum too))
(Now confirmed to be true (our fansubbing group would have been named "AzureDream" <-- still unsure)
An interesting point to mention is that the world of reps was a great concern about from the very beginning of HF. This only proves that rep wars is a tradition within the HF-servers :D:p
http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3023

November 2004
Even though I technically joined HF in Oct, it was late October, and I didn’t really do anything with my account until a week after in which I then officially joined the forums. During this time there were only several members that took active role in the HF forums. The Girl’s thread was active and humorous for all who participated. During the latter period of this time, was when a small reformation began in the types of threads that appeared. Philosophical threads within this small knit community appeared in which debates were apparently a proud part of Hongfire. There were rarely any “linked news threads” like today. In addition the US presidential elections took a great part of those conversations although there were also topics on God, death, psychological inferences, educational role, euthanasia, many others. There were numerous instances when threads went beyond 100 posts per 24 hours of which many people battled over views and participated in generally civil matter.
Oh yeah I almost forgot, this was time when Hongfire got really really sick :(

December 2004
Continuing forward December’s first half also was consumed by philosophical debates although there was a point in time where that finally simmered down. Christmas was coming and holidays approached. Apparently around this time and into early January, is when the need for moderators came around. Discrepancies in the ratio system and the seeding system in torrents section (of which was on and off)
somewhat split the community as also did in realization of the rep cults that appeared for popularity. All in all, December was mostly a peaceful time where the community was still generally flourishing.

Notes: about 2004
-“Spam” was not regulated nor really cared about. And even if it was spam, the community regulated it accordingly
-Reputation was not cared for that b/c in those days people thought they were actually thought, you got what you deserved. -In terms of service to HF and respect. Besides, most of most us had 1 rep box, to get 2nd rep box was actually a big deal. Most if not members had a power of 1-3 rep points in which it took an loooong time to get up a box unlike today.
-In the case of friendliness atmosphere of HF, most of the core people were close knit. We knew each other personalities and were generally quite helpful.
-In terms of thread commonalities, there were instances where thread would continuously have replies one after another by different members in relatively short time frames. Conversations were literally from dawn to dusk, and then some by members from different parts of world.
-many older members refer to this period as the peak of Hongfire’s glory in terms of rare torrents only found in the HF system, and a prospering community in which no doubt kept the community together with the people who posted the rare torrents
-Usually in a single day, there was about 2000+ posts per day.

January – April2005
Now these two months were filled with confusion, activists, non-activists (who basically said “who gives a damn”), revolutionists, tension, and mod vs. member activates. One might say that this was the time where the third generation of HF members appeared. Generally speaking,
-torrents section was up and down
-there were apparently rep cults
-flames came from certain people were not moderated until days later
-Thread Hijacking was also common place. This would mean the OP would speak about a topic about thing and a specialized team would come in a talk about a completely random, though admittedly humorous topic. This was supposed to be remedied by the Anti-Hijacking team of normals member to change the subject back on topic. Now this becomes quite apparent that it didn't work because fighting would just erupt between the two teams :p
-there were arguments and theories about the future of reps,
-questions among the setup of the sub-forums and how that related to post counts
-Questions regarding the definition of spam
(we were reminded by Kerii that spam was a meat product) :D
-how the mods were not doing their job because there were no active mods (well maybe burnout and maybe once in while Para came to “save the day” …and sometimes not).
-Complaints were at all time high
- HF lost some prominent members somewhere in-between too.
-Hongfire was not seen from late January to mid-May (it was speculated it was due from his poor health considering he mentioned being in and out of hospitals)

Maria Renard’s declaration imposed on HF reflected this moment.
http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16653
although mostly accepted… is still to question whether this list of demands were really met. Mostly no in my opinion.
(this url cannot be view correctly anymore and thus the post will in the attached files at the end of this post
It is named: future HF)

And yes I did get lazy at the end of summing everything up….although I will have to admit, January to April did feel like one big giant blur to me. So much happened like almost every single week. O.o And after that, I “dropped” out of HF-servers around late April early June and became a lurker ever since. I still know the daily activities in HF from April '05 to current times, but if you have specific questions I'll try my best to answer. But personally, after the April '05 I consider it early history.
EDIT: "early history" meaning when I first posted this post.

Incidents and Events

Knifes Phenomenon
KP1: 1/11/04…give or take 10 days.

Also known as the Knifes Phenomenon, or KP#, ("#" meaning the amount of times it has happened before) is an occurrence when many members change their genders to the opposite side. It's usually a switch to female, but it has also been known to be a switch to male members as well. Dubbed by TheExecption and technically started by tsuyoshiro, the event of changing genders is a cause for the lack of "real" female members regularly posting at HF...or at least at the time. More information can be found at...http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12888
(url does not exist anymore)

from this post: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showpost.php?p=324370&postcount=3393
and yes.. the first link doesn't work anymore[/QUOTE]

Here's another view by BOiNG!

There was a time on HongFire.com where some male members castrate themselves in order to briefly turned themselves into female members (changing genders). knifes & TheException were among them. They even changed their avatars & signatures to annoying sexy pictures That was an embaressing moment on HongFire.com history. Lots of male members were flirting with each other & stuffs, some were even overdone with their sexy talks. Eeeeeee...... Just imagine knifes or TheException wearing & talking exaggerated girly stuffs. That was the time when I just stayed quite, because they really freaked me out. LittleVexy, good thing you were not active when it happens. Only just recently, they've glued back their privates & now resumes back to being males again. Very "eeeew" indeed.....

Update: As posted by knifes below, you could see how "eeeew" they were. IMO, TheException's avatar & signature was the most disturbing one. There's somethin' about that horny look.....

Mod Incident Pre-Oct 2004
This is before my time on Hongfire. So thus I don’t have much information regarding this period in time. Although one big event that happened here was when the current HF-mods had a big dispute over some bug disputes and ultimately “control” of HF while mister Hongfire was away for a short period. When Hongfire came back, apparently Para sided with Hongfire and somehow later Paizu and Volfogg later received demotions from (super?) moderator to member status. I believe all this info is sufficient on the matter.
http://xs307.xs.to/xs307/06412/afafadsfaewavngb.JPG.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs307&d=06412&f=afafadsfaewavngb.JPG)
(update 1.28.08: by anonymous member's view, of whom I will keep quiet about, it was Para that somehow "sucked" up to Hongfire in negative way... "framing" as one might say, to demote B]Paizu[/B] and Volfogg because of a grudge)

Girls Thread
9.1.2005- 12.27.2005

Created by crazyguru (the account no longer exists), this thread had the inquiry of whether there were any females in the forum. It was just the simple question that spurred somehow into a thread of everything from discussing girls, females seducing males, male seducing females, role-playing, chilary towards women, and many many many other topics of interest relating to girls or not. (although usually somehow still staying under that umbrella of “girl” …somehow and someway) In the beginning the thread was maintained by the trio of Wverngirl, ramsy, and LittleVexy who in no doubt kept the males responses “busy” and created the first atmosphere of the thread. This thread kept into pace for over 16 months. And thus because of the thread’s versatile topic and lifespan, it is a highly referred to by many members as it encompasses many prominent individuals, actions, and concerns during Hongfire’s transformation from the specified dates. Like I said, the thread did not always concern the subject of girls, but also the concerns of Hongfire itself. After the lock of the Girl’s thread the Girl’s 2 and currently Girl’s 3 thread took\ the place of the original girls thread. -although girls 2 and 3 now holds the place of the definition of spam in the eyes of many without the active role it had in the past.
EDIT: 1.28.08: Girls? 7 is most likely the last of its series. The last post was made on 10.20.07. So unless someone revives this thread, it is currently dead.

Hongfire Online Hugging Organization (HO-HO)
2.12.2005 – 8.16.2005

Created by Chibifirli, this organization set out to basically hug everyone came into the thread, those out of thread, and all those people in between. Eventually this became an everyday event for some members and large lists were created and modified each and everyday with many snuggles, hugs, and sometimes kisses. Basically from post #2 all the way to post #5653 there were hugs and the supposed love of others in the gathering to post hugs. When the thread was locked, it shocked many that such an organization of love was prohibited. But due to other member’s definition of spam, the moderators agreed with those that opposed and as to of this day, no hugging threads are allowed in HF.
http://xs307.xs.to/xs307/06412/hohochibi.JPG.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs307&d=06412&f=hohochibi.JPG)

EDIT: In a reincarnation, the HOHO group, has now created a Social Group for hugging activities to start once again. -8.15.2008

Time-Post Bug
The Time-post bug was basically recorded the wrong times a post appeared. An example of this confusion would be when the ordering of a post caused people to accidentally “steal” other people’s topics and when quotes placements were out of order. The problem occurred because of the differences between the two server's clocks.

have I really been around here off and on that long, wow. I did not realize it.
I just remember way back there was a site I could get anime and hentai stuff from when I was exploring this world.
Then HF was gone for a bit then came back and I had to recreate my account, then I guess I have been here off and on ever since.
I just had not realized it had been that long.
My how time goes by :)
Even after all this time I am still to lazy to make a sig, actually it has a lot to do with my lack of artistic skill and therefore cannot create the sig I really want, so I decided to go without rather than settle.
Thanks

I'm impressed! I bow to you Knife!

Through, theres the gallery section, which in my opinion "was" just as much fun as the forum, especially the member section when Bloodbunny was around.

I think it's still fun thanks to n00bface jen, even though it's not as sexy as it was before, but "cute" pretty much dominated it right now.

The KP events were something to remember since it was very special in a way. Of all the people who participated only Kerii and Maria Renard changed to the gender of male. The rest changed to female. During that time, in almost every thread, you suddenly see a large and sudden appearance of pink icons floating around.

It was kind of hard to distinguish the "fake" girls from the real girls. Though it was a fun and crazy event, some members took advantage of it. A particular member changed from the male gender to the female gender during the KP event, and just stayed female permanently, which was gross. Then, when the new members joined and became active in the forum, they were fooled by this particular member into believing that "he" is a "she". Well, I just feel bad for those new active members, as I still feel bad for the members that are being fooled even to this very day. This particular member is still active and amongst us here, and is still under the gender of female, which is amazing in a way. ^^;

Knifes: Wow, you sure spent a lot of time on this. I guess you live up to the name of "the library of HF". :D

That thread doesn't exist anymore. :p Many vintage threads have already been deleted. Like DrWise' "Asshole Members"-thread (I think that was the name) or HF-GLAD.

where's bloodbunny? there are few people I remember from Hongfire, but they just disappear.

or did they change their name? hongfire is getting boring without all those funny people. should've get their instant messagener when they're here.

Hell, the good old days were a bit ghetto, the way I remember it. Back when Hongfire first went up in like, what, April (?) 2004. Hell I don't remember. All I remember is that Hongfire would post HCGs on the front page for Bittorrent download every week or so, and half of the links wouldn't work, and nobody ever seeded things, and the registration system had me in tears, but then...

The site opened a new section...

BT.HONGFIRE.COM

Yes. YES. HELL YES.

I'm sure some of you remember the old BT site, right? The old Extreme Tracker? That's right. THAT'S when Hongfire finally made a name for itself and began to REALLY take off (as well as open a direct portal between myself, and a whole new universe of filth and Falcom Games). Say, does anybody here know exactly how long the BT site was up before the main site went primary? I don't remember. Halp plz?

.. You know when you are getting old when you start to post in a Nostalgia thread LOL :p

Hm, good question. I can't remember. Maybe Draco? But he also spammed like crazy at that time. I remember a day in late January when the whole board got turbo-spammed and Draco made like 200 posts or so.
Uhmm Uhmmm

As which side I was on .... my own lol :p
I just wanted to have fun and enjoy the batle (and sometimes aid its progress and continuation :D )
