Sorry about starting a new thread, i wanted to change the title of my last thread and use that one but i don't think i can. Anyway i want to start this thread to see if there is anybody else out there who also likes korean music. it doesn't matter what style you like you can discuss it here if you want. :)

Questions:

1. Does anybody know of any korean bands that have a similiar style to "Vanilla Unity". Or any good korean rock bands that you would suggest.

2. Does anybody know any other sites that have lyrics to korean/japanese music (with translated lyrics, if possible)?

I enjoy Korean Music, K-Pop/K-Rock, considering that these people can actually sing when compared to most J-Pop/J-Rock artists.

In fact I saw Rain (Bi) in concert in Las Vegas with my sister during Christmas Weekend. I was really surprised by how many mid-aged women bringing their families there were.

great idea, kmusic threads have come and gone but this thread seems promising. i've fallen out of the loop since mvh(music video heaven) gone off the air. haven't got into kpop since HOT and Finkl split. that was back when boy/girl bands ruled(cleo, seeU, NRG, sechskies, SPR, SES, shinwa, GOD, eagle5, #, clone, fly to the sky, etc too many to mention) and of course the occasional ballad. by comparison there were only afew hip hop groups ie drunken tiger, yg family, honey family, etc and even fewer rock groups ie hip pocket, deli spice, spooky banana, etc. i don't remember too much and i don't know what's going on now so i'd love to get reacquainted.

I'm no expert on the whole music scene so i suggest trying this site out

It's a pretty good forum.

They got Korean, Chinese music, Vietmanese and Japanese music discussion and downloads. They also got asian idol stuff and music vids, if your into that kind of thing. I started listening to K-Pop/K-Rock because of these guys.

I enjoy Korean Music, K-Pop/K-Rock, considering that these people can actually sing when compared to most J-Pop/J-Rock artists.

Enjoy, hopefully this won't get erased.

I hope that this thread and your post doesn't get erased either. Also I agree with the comment that K-Pop/K-Rock guys can actually sing when compared to most J-Pop/J-Rock artists. However, don't get me wrong, but there are some good japanese singers, like Gackt.

Bi's a great singer i'll post the first two albums above (they are Bad Guy and How to Avoid the Sun).

Thanks for sharing, it's good to find some other people that also like listening to korean music.

before i get to the point of K-rock, i have to preface by saying to you.
find and listen to the Korean group Clazziquai 클래지콰이"Sweety" on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwHbNcK8i60) (they are a loungey, smooth, poppy kind of vibe) which was THE album of 2004 for me - nothing new in the Western music world at the time but real well put-together for the Asian scene. Since their phenomenally groovy and complete first album called "instant pig" they've put out 2 remix albums and an official second which isn't quite up to the first, but still very catchy and listenable.

more of where that came from if someone asks. but getting back to the original question of K-rock.

i'm into mostly alternative, pop-rock, alternative, lounge, very-much indie, but these below are the rocking types.
some bands will have suggested songs(or songs that i feel are representative, or i just like of the band), they can be found at the links provided (usually).

At the moment mine would have to be Vanilla Unity (which explains all the videos :)). My all time favorite band/singer is...too hard to decide...i like too many of the bands that I have...i'll have to come back on this one.

It seems that Zhang Li Yin is Chinese and was recruited a few years ago and now is very famous in Korea.

Honestly is there a mod going around deleting my posts for fun?

I made two posts before; requesting for MC Mong's second album "His Story". They both dissapeared. So I'll try again. (I made posts in another topic, it got deleted once but it is still there now so it gives me hope.)

Also I'm in China and the communists block a lot of upload sites, rapidshare and zshare work. Megaupload doesn't. I'd appreciate it if you use one of them.

EDIT: My other post just died, and now if I look back in this thread, the guy who requested Epik High lost his post. O_o

Are Junior members not allowed to request? I highly doubt it because we have a junior member uploading and he is ok so...

My Korean's a bit rusty (well the Hangul/Korean written version)...isn't that like yang-pa or something? if it is yang-pa so then yes...yes i have...

I actually thought Yang Pa was the name of the singer. If it's the one I'm thinking of she has a very soulful voice...

^-^ YAY!! Another person will to listen to K-Stuff!!

Depends on what type of Pop/Rock you like to listen to....

If you like "boy band" type of stuff, then I would suggest "Dong Bang Shin Gi" (also known as DBSK, DBSG, TVXQ, and THSK {"Tou Hou Shin Ki" in Japan})

If you like male solo artists than I would suggest "Rain" ("Bi" in Korean).

If you like female artists then "BoA" is a fine choice... (I actually like her Korean songs better than her Japanese stuff) Another good Korean Female artist is "Youhna" (She also sings Japanese songs like "Houki Boshi", which was one of the ending songs for Bleach)

As far as K-Rock is concerned I think "Vanilla Unity" is among my favorites along with "Cherry Filter". Also "F.T Island" is pretty good as well.

Also give "Fly to the Sky" a shot, they're an R&B Duo, but they're really good.

Other Artist/Groups to consider:

Epik High (K-Hip Hop Group)
Big Bang (K-Pop/Hip Hop Male Group)
GUMMY (K-R&B Solo Female Artist)
HowL (K-R&B Solo Male Artist)
LoveHolic (K-Pop/Rock Band)

There are a bunch more, but I better stop before I get ahead of myself. Most of the Albums of the artists/groups that are listed above, can be found in this thread on previous posts...

Our class's music exams were supposed to take up 3 days. (They took like 5) But our teacher forgot we had an 80% Korean population. Almost every Korean played a Korean slow song that took forever, and gave me a weekend I shouldn't have gotten to practice that saved my life.

yes! i love 'Fan' and 'Love Love Love' from Epik High. I also like Haengbok hamnida, it's kind of...soothing? lol i really loved Gummy's 'Comfort' album. i've really liked her ever since i heard 'Ani'.

^-^ Sure thing. I believe that "Epik High"'s latest album (Pieces, Part One) to me is probably their best. Lots of collaboration songs with other artists and really strong lyrics, but not too raw sounding where it will drive you away.

Tangshinyeh Chogakdeul (featuring Ji Sun from LoveHolic) is probably my favorite song in the whole album, and coincidentally the last.

But yeah, if you really like Epik High's sound then you also might want to try "Drunken Tiger". They're also a K-HipHop/Rap group. They're a bit more raw than EH in my opinion, but they're worth checking out.

EDT ADDED...again: OH YEAH!! I almost forgot. The Korean Music Festival at Hollywood Bowl last month was AWESOME!!! (Except that "Fly to the Sky" only sang two songs since they're promoting their concert that's happening in July...I'm going with my sister and friends anyway so it doesn't really matter to me.) ...Too bad I wasn't allowed to use my "professional" camera...

I haven't listened to Epik High's new album yet, just heard the single which was pretty catchy and the music video was great, so dramatic!

I haven't heard much of Drunken Tiger either. I heard about them after discovering Tasha (who I'm so loving right now lol). I don't know if I like their style so much, but they are good. I also find it odd that Rain is affiliated with Movement, correct me if I'm wrong lol. Isn't he more...pop?

You went to the Hollywood Bowl Festival thingie?? *so jealous* I live in NY so I couldn't go ><. I wish some K-artists would make the journey over here lol. Who was there? I've never even heard a FTTS song. I think DBSK and SuJu were also there, right? I don't care for them too much, but I still would have gone ^^.

Feel like such a noob since I haven't listened to a lot of the kpop artists in this thread. I mostly listen to YG Family. I have so much to listen to this weekend. *is excited* ^^

Yeah, unfortunately the Koreans have a very strange sense when categorizing "Rock" music. So most of the K-Rock music actually sounds more...Popish unfortunately. (Bleh....) EDIT ADDED: There are a few exceptions though...."TRAX" and "Vanilla Unity" I think are good examples...

But yeah, I don't really know that many bands with that type of "sound" that you looking for. And the ones I do know are the ones where I forgot their names ::sigh::.

But yeah, to me personally I'll take J-Rock over K-Rock anyday... (But K-Pop/K-HipHop over J-Pop/J-HipHop)

If I re-call correctly, Page has made 6 albums and one "Best of..." so far...but unfortunately her music doesn't appeal to the mainstream as much as other artists. Thus why it took me a while to find her stuff. (On top of that she hasn't made an "official" album since 2004, so most likely she's retired...)

Just got back from the "Bay Area" where I watched "Fly to the Sky"'s concert for the second time. (First time was in Los Angeles... Thank you "Aneki" for the ticket for the second concert in the "Bay Area".)

And it was amazing both times. (Although the sound system in the "Bay Area" was rather crude when compared to the "Disney Concert Hall"... First time I've experienced a professional concert that had both low and high tone feedback in the same song... ::shrugs shoulders::)

And sorry I wasn't able to find the albums of the band that you have requested.

EDIT ADDED: Oh yeah... Hwanee's version of Maxwell's remake of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" was SPOT ON!!

Someone said that Youjeen's vocals sounded like Alanis Morisette...That's really, really not right in any way, shape, or form.

Cherry Filter cover a hella wide range of genres, and Youjeen is probably the best clean vocalist I've ever heard. Mainly because she can scream so, so well. I mean, not in a screamo way, but in a really high way >_>

But seriously, check out their music, especially the final song on the final album, and Head-Up, first song on the first album. They're awesome.

yeah, he did have a high voice. i would describe his voice as high, smooth, and articulate, but not so high as to be confused with a woman's voice. he sang with a finesse and confidence that really grabbed my attention.

Can someone help me. I have tons of CDs and some songs that are no longer available to buy. I'm not selling them - I'd like to load them up online and share with everyone. Also - I have some songs I downloaded a while back - and I forgot most of the group names and the song titles themselves.

I'm looking for that group LUV. I just want there song "Tears" ... or something like that.
