for me i hate listening to techno (screw those 'ahbengs' in singapore), nu metal, most of punk rock, hard&heavy trash (not all of them), black rap (maybe the 'black' was kinda unnecessary but most of the raps are sung by them)

Radio = poop... unless it's classical, real jazz, or real electronic music.

Also, I don't like angry metal. I prefer not to listen to most rock bands in general, though.

true 50 cents is not all around pop but it's can't be considered as rap (degeneration of genre?) i see it as teenage pop.

I'm Metal head for sure.

Country is depressing... all songs are too joyfull to be true and rest is about yer sweet honey leave you (as far as i know)

Anyway, the types of music I don't like:

Rap: Old-school late eighties pop-rap by groups like New Edition (HELL YEAH) and smooth mid-nineties acts like LL Cool J is okay, but rap has become vile and unlistenable, and therefore sucks.

Country: I used to hate it, now I just don't like it (Country music has gotten better over the years)

Pop: If it's on the radio, it's automatically UNCOOL. Nu-metal blows HARD.

and Damage, the emo comment will ring true forever. Emo takes it from behind. Listening to emo is basically like coming out and saying "I am a whiner, a wimp, I have no girlfriend, taste in clothes, or anything redeeming about myself." I say, if you're gonna listen to indie, at least listen to COOL indie.

Cool indie = Tortoise, the Sea and Cake, Stereolab (DUH), Yo La Tengo...be cool, man, be cool.

Rap and hip-hop has become part of pop music, so 50 Cent, though hip-hop, is still pop music.

And I can't stand really hard Rock (lots of screaming and banging away)

I hate cheap plastic music. You know, the stuff that sounds like from out of some music factory with some catchy tune, repetetive synthies, percussions out of the box and a half-naked chick more occupied with dancing than moving her mouth to the computer-enhanced playback. Britney spears and other pedo-porn stars spring to mind.

I also hate music that SOUNDS like that, which includes 90% of all jpop.

The other 10% are something entirely else .... :)

Apothos
11-20-2004, 02:57 PM
hate Rap, cuze my ears can't really hear a catchy melody or something. (no offense to others, I just hear words and accompany music.)

Country... being stuck in 2 hours long car drives and listening to country for at least 10 years can make a person rather uncomfortable when you start to hear the lyrics in your head...

lol can't imagine what would happen if u listen to country for 10years

Don't have any particular hateful genre just because each genre has some good works.
Should I choose anything to hate, I would pick those copycat works, mostly found in pops, techno and raps, not all of them of course.

HelloProject
11-24-2004, 10:25 PM
I've always been completely open to any genre of music, so I guess you could say that I have no real genres to hate.

I agree that all genres have their good works and bad. If anything, the only type of music in general that I hate is something that is a little too repetitive...like music that only have 1-4 measures of unique music. :p

There're a lot of genres I really don't like, but not many I out-and-out hate. The only ones I can think of that I actually hate are rap, country (and all those offshoots like bluegrass and shit), whatever the hell genre all those crappy 50's and 60's singers are in (y'know, people like Streisand and shit), easy listening, and that godawful thing called "Southern rock" that was so pervasive in the 70's.

I dont hate any music.

I dislike a lot of music, but thats just a matter of taste. I dont really care if something is commercial or "plastic", if it sounds good Ill listen to it.
I do dislike most commercial music, but thats because a lot of it just doesnt sound good. It's easier to hate single artists or labels than an entire genre. I really can enjoy music from almost any genre, as long as it's performed "properly" and the way I like it.
If I had to name any genre's, I'd say most commercial hiphop (or is that "urban" now?), a lot of harder rockstyles and a lot of dance-music.

I don't like most rap or country in general, though a few songs have crept into my acceptance field. Most heavy metal head banger music and screaming incoherent music with load guitars and no beat are also pretty annoying. Most US Pop music is also too annoying, though Pop music from Japan doesn't bother me most of the time. I like variety in all things, but there is a limit to being able to understand and sing along with the music.

02-04-2005, 01:52 AM
Um. . . country, anything more pop than any other genre (as in, pop punk, pop rock, pop rap, pop classical(?)) I prefer my stuff obscure, or at least intelligent (re: pop, not necissarily country, so don't consider it a flame. please!).

Anything else I'll give a chance. A sucker for techno :D

02-09-2005, 12:51 AM
MIBlackburn_d6, I suppose it depends on what dance/techno you're listening to, although I'll agree that repitition does play a big part in most tracks. Like, I can't really recommend DDR music as something listenable, but there are some pretty deep songs out there.

You've probably already made up your mind regarding it, but if you ever want to listen to some good techno, check out James Holden, John Digweed or Amon Tobin, they're more than just simple repitition. (of course, all IMHO :) ).

Ahh so many rap haters, but I do feel that a lot of mainstream "rap" is pretty bad nowadays (like Chingy) but I like Ludacris coz his songs are goofy :D. I prefer old school stuff though like KRS-one

Likes: classical, old school rap, underground hiphop, classic rock, motown, drum & bass, and jpop.

Dislikes: Heavy metal and similar head banging music, country, mainstream pop. That's all I can think of for now.

No particular styles I really "hate". I dislike country, and most rap (though some of it I really like). What I DO hate is a lot of trash that gets played on the radio, primarily that pop punk/emo whatever junk that really pisses me off and a lot of the rap they put on.

As for the styles I like, its hard to name them all... A lot of different types of rock, jazz, electronica, classical, reggae, ska...

There's not much I can't listen to. I find that as a musician it makes no sense to me to limit myself to one style though I listen to rock a lot which reminds me...Limp Bizkit. Some of their songs are good, some of them could have not made it into the recording studio, but if you actually listen to the band you can tell there are some talented people there. I mean Wes Borland Limp Bizkit by the way. :) I've told my friends if LB only released an instrumental album they'd make money each and every time.

To the poster who said they didn't like Evanescence can you please tell me why? Personally they wouldn't be someone I'd listen to if I wanted to work on some guitar stuff, but a lot of their stuff is good.

I hate the hip-hop station that my co-workers listen to.

It's OK for about 15 minutes, then they start to play the same songs over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. If I hear that stupid Nelly/Tim McGraw song one more goddamn time, I am going to scream in agony. Yet that station plays it about (literally) three times per hour, and my co-workers lap it right up.

It is truly annoying.

Disliked industrial, trance with no real melody, most hip-hop and metal with 90% screaming vocals.

Likes techno, dance, eurobeat, rock/hard rock/metal, J-pop.

Some people thinks its strange for me to love both rock and techno, but for me I like beats in general, and both provides me that.

Same for any and everyone that says they hate J-Pop. Its in pretty much all of anime...almost embedded. How can you even come here and hate J-Pop/J-Rock? I'm totally confused.

Anyways...I LIKE Rap and R&B...though I don't listen to the new stuff all the often, so maybe there's now a reason to hate R&B, who knows.

Anyways...country, emo, usually techno, punk, Southern rap, and other genres, I just can't remember...

I'm not going to browse through 8 pages of a thread I would have owned everyone on by page 2. As far as genres I can't stand J-related music & Country are definately at the top. As far as artists go they are scattered far and wide from Evanoffense to Hackthorne Heights to 50 Cents short of a dollar to Kurt GoBang!

Otherwise my ears are very open and all I ask for out of music is for it to be enjoyable.

I truly hate rap, country, pop, hip-hop, punk/emo, and metal.

When I hear rap it just seems like mumbling, and always talking about chicks, or something pointless.

I just dislike country because it all sounds the same.

Pop just seems to be talking about nonsense as well.

Hip-hop is the same as rap.

Punk and emo is just a bunch of whiny attention whores, whining about some fake depressing feeling.

I don't like metal because I want them to stop screaming at me. Cause that is what it sounds like.

Oh yeah it should be what music genres do you hate.

darkandshadow

I can't say I hate...
But I can say despise

So, I despise:

Country (and anything related)
Rap/Hip-Hop/Trip-Hop/WTF-Hop (<-Yes, WTF)
Black Metal (Because it sounds too much like rap)

I dislike:

Jazz
Ear-piercing Operas

I like:

Pop
Alternative
Classic Rock
Psychadelic Rock
Light - Moderate Metal (Sorry, no screamers needed, although I do need to scream at ppl sometimes ^^;;; )
Techno/Dance/Trance/Club/House Party
Foreign (Different styles)
Game (Including remixes from sites like: ocremix.org and vgmix.com)
Classical
Instrumental (Not rap!!) (Can be a mix of a lot of genres)

I'm not naming bands and such because that'll take too much time.

~ So-so
- Dislike
? Unsure

+ Heavy Metal (IE: Iron Maiden)/Doom Metal (IE: Black Sabbath)/Thrash-Speed Metal (IE: Megadeth)/Pop-Metal (IE: Def Leppard), Progressive Metal (IE: Dream Theater)/Progressive Rock (IE: Yes)/Blues Based Rock (IE: Cream), Jazz Rock (IE: Santana), Acid Rock (IE: The Jimi Hendrix Experience), Psychodelic Rock (E: Pink Floyd), Blues (IE: Stevie Ray Vaughn), Power Metal (IE: Gamma Ray) << I really need to listen to more Power Metal

~ Old School Rap (IE: NWA), Black-Death Metal (IE: Cradle of Filth), Reggae (IE: Bob Marley)

- New School Rap (IE: 50 Cent), Pop (IE: NSYNC), Techno (IE: Moby), Country (IE: Garth Brooks), Emo (IE: Simple Plan), Nu Metal (IE: Korn), Contemporary R&B (IE: Brandy), Hair Metal (IE: Europe), Alternative Rock (IE: Bush), Punk (IE: The Ramones), Pop-Punk (IE: Green Day), Grind Core (IE: Trivium)

? Foreign (IE: Latin), Proper R&B (IE: James Brown), Jazz (IE: Wes Montgomery)

There aremany more genres, but it is safe to say that I like about 1/3 of music, mainly music derived from rock.

As for Grunge, there is really no such thing as Grunge Rock. Grunge was just a scene. Bands like Alice and Chains and Soungarden were more metal, while Nirvana were more Pop Punk, but they were all part of the Grunge scene.

It's like this .. you buy a computer .. install a musicprogram .; and loop tha hardest beat as much times / second as possible .. and voila .. supperhit. You just can't capture the concept of how silly this is... and when they dance to it rofl .. it makes it all worth it I guess...

now my question is do you hate all j-music in general or just the pop type?

Well, most of my exposure to J-Music has been through anime theme songs. I almost never like the theme song, wether it is pop or rock. The only exceptions are the opening to Rozen Maiden and the closing song to Naruto (Season 3, I think. The one where everybody is walking and stuff.) So to answer your question, I really don't like any J-Music. I guess it is the lack of crazy guitar solos and powerful double vocals.

All newer hip hop is bad.
It's a bunch of raving (trying not to be racist here) black guys running around on stage or in their "music video" and flinging their arms all over the place. The only good thing about this is, the don't get yelled at when they pick at their balls on tv.

Oo, oo, I wanna join the hate parade! *a bit late though, heh*

Lets see here... boo on Rap and all that other stuff that's like it (I put R&B and hiphop (which is the same damned thing as rap) in there with it - don't ask me). That's not music. Just rhythmic speaking over some crappy backgrounds that could atl east be passed as music. (I know it's technically music - it's the 6 years of chior flowing out 'o me.)

Next up, country. Ugh, no need to explain this one either. They can't freakin' sing. That or I just can't stand the horrible accent or the subjects for the songs.

Maybe i'm just weird, but I can't take american pop, but I can take pop from other countries in other languages. I guess when I can't understand when they're trying to say it's all good and I can just enjoy the tunes. When I can hear about how ugly they are and how everyone is wanting to love them etc. Blarg on that.

And last, but still hated, screamer bands. Argh, lryics. I want lyrics. Even if they list the lryics in the little booklet, when it comes out as AAARAAAROOOAAAAAGHAHRAAAAAASCOOBYDOOBEEDOAAAABABAS SAAAAARGH I JUST STUBBED MY TOE! there's no real point to the music. Sure, you're mad. But so are millions of others. Screaming intot he mike with some stuff in the background is just irritating countless others. Real productive there.

I guess people have been posting what they like too, even though it wasn't originally part of the topic... oh well. Anything that makes me go all bouncy is great. So punk etc. is good in my mind. Plenty of techno/electronica/400 other genre's that sound about the same in this field. And mix it up with some classical stuff. (Dvorak or Holst. Awesome!)

^-^ ::Cracks Knuckles:: ok lets get started....

First off right off the bat....Pop...especially those boy bands like N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys (aka the "BS" Boys) I feel like strangling those bastards everytime I hear their songs.

Next: Main stream Hip Hop. I like some hip hop/rap music but after hearing the same song playing on the radio for the billionth time, it just gets old. Also the beats are getting simpler in my opinion.

Next: Country...no explanation needed.

Last: Wing....(there has to be someone who knows this one) just go to www.Wingtunes.com and enjoy the goodness.

There's plenty of point to the music, and that's one hell of a generalisation you're making when you say the lyrics come out like that, have you listened to a decent hardcore/screamo band? Just because they scream doesn't make them incoherent. Also, not all of them are mad about something and for those irritated don't listen to it, simple.
Anyway, I hate mainstream pop music, regardless of where it comes from but I'm ok with pretty much everything else.

I dislike most pop, most country, a lot of rap (any rap that is what I refer to as Bling Rap, where they just talk about what they have and such... stuff like Outkast and Eminem I like), most Death Metal, or bands that do mostly screaming (excluded are Slipknot, System of a Down, and Deftones), and Skrew (this is rap music that is slowed down... why it came about, I have no clue, apparently some people like it).

Yeah, i'll admit that I generalized it quite a bit. There may be some shining examples of the complete opposite of what i've listened to... but it's always going to pop up in my mind as someone pissed about something and putting it into this media form. And I can't really say that i've listened to a 'decent' band or not since decent is very easy to apply to anything since it's an opinion. I just got tastes of it on a complilation CD I bought awhile back. I listened to them, gave 'em a chance... hated them. At least I gave 'em a listen to see if i'll like them or not. Now I don't listen to them, but your last line is now complete. It's not like I go out of my way to listen to it. I already did at one point and didn't like it, thus why I don't listen anymore.

It isn't really "a style", but I hate music with french lyrics/singer. I heard and liked music from various countries but I can't stand it when the song is french. :p
I find it ridiculous, boring or ugly, depending of the song.

However, there are some exceptions. I like french celtic music or japanese songs with french lyrics like R

can't say I hate all genre coz I'm kinda open w/ various musics, the only reason I hate is because of the artist or band is lame for me. Country is boring to me, but I dont hate it >.>. Btw I saw a post where Nirvana's name was mentioned twice <.< seems like he sure hate it so much, but I like that band :)

If i do needa really say the genre I hate, well maybe is those copycat music, mostly chinese music, coz they just change the lyrics in some famous eng, korean or jpn song to think tat's going to impress me, damn stupid :@

no kinds of music are hated by me lol, i like at least one song from every genre

waht i do hate is ppl attacking peoples music tastes
the traditional "oh you like emo go cut your wrists you poser" thing is so stupid, you like what you like, just cuz u listen to atreyu doesnt mean you cut your wrists or whatever..
also, i do hate green day right now, i think theive sold out since their "warning" album, only good song on that was waiting. their best album was "dookie" and best song was "when i come around"

i dont like most new hip-hop, but there are some good ones out there (jurrasic 5, gorrillaz)
not a fan of that pop-punk stuff, but then again, avril did have some catchy songs that, although i dont like her, i still enjoyed listening to.
techno is boring now, but back in the raving days it was awesome, eurodance still has some life in it.
i dont like most ppls idea of punk, most people get it confused with emo and pop-punk, then people take the worst possible punk bands and take them as examples...if you want propper punk go for turbonegro or gauze..
anyways yeh i diddnt mean to rant but i ended up doing it anyway lol.......

Country Music - I am not from "the Country." My truck does not have a hemi. (Whatever the **** that is.) I don't like the acoustic guitar or the "fiddle" (violin). If you do like these things, than I have nothing against you. However, my natural reaction is to vomit when I hear notes comming from a country music station.

Ponk - No. Not "punk". "Ponk" is a clever term for pop-punk. From what I have seen, nobody seems to like this genre. So why is it on the radio? Oh wait, I wasn't counting 10 year old rich girls, who make up most of ponk's fan-base. Country has all the appeal of rotting cattle to me. I have no desire to listen to some deranged cowboy go on about farm life.
Emo music is disgusting. It's like diet goth watered down with rabid squirrel excrement and gonorrehea.

I've seen many hip hop/rap artists in interviews call it both. I think it's really just a matter of opinion or what some stupid magazine decides it's supposed to be. Rap is supposed to mean rythm & poetry and that seems the most appropriate name for it to me. (Of couse alot of the current rap being released barely qualifies as poetry imo)

i like any music...

for the exception of U.S teen pop

for some reason, when hearing a song from someone parallel to Britney Spears makes me wanna jump off a building (just kidding, ill just groan in hearing pain) and wish that they get a really bad end.

hip-hop and rap I like (its next to j-pop actually, so it makes it 3rd), since most of the beats are kinda catchy, but the content is getting a wee bit repetitive these days (im sorry, its my opinion, dont cut my freakin head off). but above all that, like Chris Rock said "If the beat's alright, I can dance to it all night" (paraphrased).

country...not to be the cynical nutjob i am, but i dislike it for many reasons. most of 'em are already stated, so I dont want to repeat it.

I like rock and anything similar to it (including metal) and j-pop, and jazz, and etc., taking off teen pop and country off the list and into the fiery gates of my personal hell

As a musician I keep an open mind to various other musical genres besides my favorite one's. But still I can't stand U.S. Pop, Hip Hop, Techno, Trance and all of the types related to this, I just can't stand them they're an assasination to real composed music. (Not meant to offend people that like the genres I referred above, it's just my personal opinion :neko: )

*Takes deep breath* hi do you even know the roots of where your "good music" comes from it's essentially hybrid in origin, rock music includes elements of several black American music styles: black guitar-accompanied blues; black rhythm and blues, noted for saxophone solos; black gospel music; white country and western music; and the songs of white popular crooners and harmony groups. Emerging in 1954–55, rock music was initially referred to as “rock 'n' roll.” After 1964 it was simply called “rock music.” The change in terminology indicates both a continuity with and a break from the earlier period; rock music was no longer just for dancing. After 1964 the music was influenced by British groups such as the Beatles.

anyway there's more but i know this won't change your opinion on music or race will it which is really sad that hate of a musical genre can lead to comments like this and feelings for a culture that you don't even have the shallowest idea about! well that fine with me you can be tool all you want

This is true but country inspired black people who then made blues music just saying. Black people arent at the root of all white music.

i don't think so if you tell me when there was a transition between the two the blue comes from slave music which then has it's roots in African from tribal song and dance not country but I already stated that country had it's influences.

Well i cant agree with that most racism in metal stems from Black Metal really, no other genres. besides i have met and seen a lot of black people on T.V who are very elitest with there music much more so than white people and thats because of us and how we have oppressed them. Never really had problem with the metal artist i don't think they have a problem with rap/hiphop not that i know of. Rappers and hiphop artist deffinetly don't have a problem with metal i.e metal inspired beats in rap and hiphop (but you won't most of them because there from the underground) and what not so why do you think the fans do? lets see...

I hate mainstream Pop, its annoying, and the songs that deserve to be played most on the radio rarely are, where songs from crappy teenage wanna be rock bands/pop stars are on there all the time.

Rap/Hip-Hop used to be really cool, now its all about trying to be a gangsta or making lots of many and having sex. Its really annoying

I don't like metal but I don't hate it either, some types of metal are good.

The only good types of music IMO are Indies Rock or Rock like RHCP where they don't have to rely on solely effects and can pop out a good jam in seconds, as well as Classic Rock like Hendrix, The Who and such.

I really hate punk rock and techno music. I just think that they are silly. I am not sure about metal, though. I like the classic one like Iron Maiden and sometimes Judas Priest, but not modern or extremely aggressive things. Tool is an exception, but I don't know if it is considered Metal at all.
And is anyone here who can explain to me what exactly "Indie" is?

That teen-pop just doesn't exist for me. One can talk this and that band and how awful they are and I can just answer: Who?

I don't really hate any sort of music.

Mostly listen to rock, but mostly the older ones like The Beatles. Same goes here, there's no real rock right now. Just some emo crap like Greenday and Linkin Park. Crystal Method is quite good though.

I listen to a few really old songs like Dean Martin's Sway and Andy William's Music To Watch The Girls Go By.
I even listen to Elvis Presley, country like Johnny Cash.
Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin are quite good as well, still looking for my taste in piano music but I certainly like it.

I used to listen to Techno, trance and dance also like Tiesto and Van Buuren.
Also used to listen to Metallica and sometimes I still do when I feel like it.
I used to listen to Gothic like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil.

To put it simply. RAP or anything that sounds like Rap. Hip Hop and soul. I'm not racist or anti black, but I just can't get into the music they listen to. I'm assuming they listen to it since it is aired on BET on cable. So I'm guessing this is the norm for a black listener. I just have never been able to get into it. I like classical, industrial, techno, electronic and synthpop. So I guess this could be one reason it never grew on me.

Any music style that the lyrics are nearly impossible to listen to. This doesn't include a lot of foreign music either...since I may not know what is being said..at least I can still hear it. And...for all the music with no lyrics....I like all of it. All forms of electronic, techno, classical, ect.

I don't go out of my way to listen to Rap, Hip-Hop, and Pop (J-Pop being the exception), but I can tolerate it.

Emo songs.
Often the music in itself is not so bad. But the good tunes gets mouthraped by the lyrics and the bands image. H.I.M *cough*

Ex
We are so young, our lives has just begun
Yet we are considering to escape from this world.
*shudders*

I also hate bands like good Charlotte, Simple Plan.

I have a hard time listening to bands that sell out to much. Green Day for example. Their music is really great when you think about it. But then their oh so cheesy DvD "Bullet in a bible" pops into your mind you get this funny taste in your mouth.
Just the name of the dvd is a sad attempt to sound rebelliously deep, just as the name of their album is just another sad attempt to roll along on the wave of the all to popular popular subject "Ignorant Usa and evil bush"

If you want good society criticizing punk go listen to NOFX "war on errorism", no go listen to all their albums.
They manage to bring forth good subjects in their lyrics full of puns while still keeping their self distance. "Randy" is another good option.

Hmmm.... seems like this post got a little carried away. Sorry about that

Commercial Hip-Hop, and this new age folk-scene crap. No talent at all, just using marketing techniques.

R&B, rap, hip hop, soul, gospel, christian metal, unblack metal, christian rock, schlager, are those I can't stand no matter what.

Ditto.

I absolutely hate Christian metal. I don't even understand it. First they blame black metal for satanism, then they go and sing about their own god? Can't Satanists blame them for that? Or is everyone just against Satanism.

Also, I really hate those bands made JUST for girls the age of 13 and under. Jonas Brothers, Honors Society, etc.

Off topic, but I also hate horrible misinterpretations of otherwise pure awesome things. Like Vampires in Twilight. I mean.. Really. =_=

i dont really "hate" any style of music in particular if i had there was one i dislike it would probably hardcore death metal with crazy screaming, i respect them musically sometimes but that style just isnt me, im also not really a fan of those pop hardcore bands like a day to remember all the breakdowns in those songs sound the same even if its a different band

Rap is just terrible. Its way too lazy....and fail. Seriously?! Who samples Hide and Seek, toss a rap beat to it, then go off about hoes and money and whatnot. I expected that from the master, Kanye West, but now newer generations of rap artists are doing it. Omg...
Mainstream. Its not a genre, but anything that plays on the radio is guaranteed to be just failure in 192kbps.
Country/Blue Grass. No comment -__-
Mainstream again. Ugh....
