What's the best MOD CHIP?

I am thinking getting a new ps2 since my last one broken. And the last mod chip i have can not play dvd on ps2. Anyone can tell me what's the best MOD CHIP right now? So i can get the best mod chip for the new ps2 maybe that will make it last longer.

My friend has one called Magic V. Got it recently. You can play PAL(European games), NTSC(Japanese/American games) with it. It loads everything my friend downloaded off the Net :o

i read that on some site and i used to put my ps2 vertically and it broke within 9 months
now i got it fixed (cost quite a lot) i tapped it under the monitor to remine me never to put it vertically again

I recommend DMS3. It's the hignest quality MODchip in this time (but hignest price too ^^;;). It can even watch divx movie file (i really love this function), but Messiah 2 pro or Messiah 3.2(clone) are the good choices too. :)

Thanks for the info, been wondering this myself for a while now too. Now I just have to learn more japanese so I can play imports lol =). Also maybe a burned game here and there =O.

The version of the modchip selected for modding your console is very dependant on the version of PS2 you own.

DMS3 should be the best mod chip for PS2, with its additional features like DIVX playback support, all region DVDs, bypassed Macrovision protection, RGB(Green-screen) fix, and flash upgradable by downloading the latest CD update from the DMS3 web site.

The long time king of PS2 mod chip, Messiah would be excellent too and extremely reliable. The price of the original Messiah should be higher compared to Messiah clones, but you get what you paid for.

If I remember correctly, MAGIC modchip is from Taiwan and based on the hacked Messiah code. Earlier versions of Magic has a lot of compatibility problems (problems with DVD-9, or loading Kingdom Hearts NTSC/US) but they claimed that Magic V onwards do not have this problems.

There are other clones of Messiah (ex: HK Messiah 3.2 ModChip, Messiah Blue, and etc), but do not be fooled if the modders say they installed a Messiah modchip in your console when in actuallity they installed another less reliable clone.

I have a DMS3 in my PS2 and the only thing I don't like about it is that it can't see the differences from a DVD-,PSX-, PS2 disc so It sees everything as a PS2 disc if you don't hold the button for the chosen mode(Square = DVD, Triange = boot menu, X(or was it O?) = PSX).

Damn I would've bought dms3plus if i knew about divx playback. Instead i got magic v, its ok but it wont play ps2 cdrs that well (freezes on high graphic games). It might be that the company damaged the lens a bit when installing the chip.

so... how do you make sure the guy installs this modchip in your ps2? because I want one, but how would you know it was modded with the chip you want? a dmsplus 3? I thought the retailers in malaysia only say "it's modded, you want anything else, you pay extra or leave" and put on some extra cheap shit. Any way of knowing for sure? Or is it... just a can't do much about it thing?

Mmm... So, how does this exactly work? I am also strongly thinking about getting a modchip, because I just bought few games in Korea and I have US PS2. But, the way I see it, I need to install the chip. Is it really that easy to open up my PS2 and install? And, from the website, DMS4 is now available. Is it really that much better than DMS3plus? Or, is DMS3plus more than adaquate? Thanks.

why not just go for a swap magic slide card i think its much better than the chip. There might be a little more fiddleing to load a game then you want but it doesnt ruin the ps2 at all
