As the thread suggests, I'm looking for RPGs with romance as one of the main focuses of the story. Or if not a main focus, at least is definitely there and conclusive. I can't help it...I just can't get into a story that focuses on action. I need romance and character development, damn it! Some of my favorites include: Lunar: Silver Star Story, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, Final Fantasy VIII, Tales of the Abyss and Ar tonelico.

I'm somewhat new to gaming, having gotten all my consoles only two years ago, so I'm not very familiar with any good titles. I own a PS2, Gamecube and PSX so I'm looking for titles for those systems. Hit me with all the recommendations you've got!

It's kinda hard to pin exact titles where romance is the focus of an RPG seeing as just about a huge junk of JRPG's out there will have a romance as a part of the themes..

Anyway from the looks of things your tastes leans towards jrpg's anyway.. so i recommend any of the Tale's series (Tales of Symphonia (GC), Phantasia (GBA.. just watch out for the evil dubbing >.<) and Eternia (rereleased on PSP) are ones you should check out) Nippon Ichi's series ot SRPG's are also good (ie. Disgaea, La Pucelle Tactics and Phantom Brave). If you want reaaaaaaallly good character development tho you can't go wrong with Suikoden V! ^^

Suikoden V is good, Persona 3 has some relation-building stuff in it as well.

I've been looking at the Tales series, specifically Tales of Symphonia. I hear a lot about it being good, then a lot about it being terribly overrated and mediocre. What's your take on it? Suikoden V looks like it's right down my alley, I think I'll pick that one up tomorrow. The Nippon Icchi games look fun as well.

Persona 3 looks kind of weird, I don't think I get it. Could you explain how it plays? Thanks and sorry. :P

Wow, Odin Sphere is beautiful. I'll see if I can pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions! Keep 'em coming.

Odin Sphere has extremely great story. I mean, the Final Fantasy stuff is great and all, but this one seem so unique. Creating an entire super fantasy world, alluding to certain folklores, and have 3 romance stories between 5 character intertwining in one whole epic.

It's pretty easy to play too as long as you play easy mode. XD

I won't recommend Persona 3 if you want a happy romantic conclusion. The final ending will leave you miserable, be it original or FES.

Yeah I thought it looked like a lot of fun. I've already ordered it online, I'm just waiting for it to arrive. It might be one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen.

Aww, really? I don't think I'll be getting it then. I get miserable really easily *cough*Basilisk*cough*.

Heh, the Shin Megami Tensei is a pretty dark series...

I felt Persona 3 sorta had a happy ending conclusion. But aside from that, the romance part within the game is EXCELLENT! It is like that because in the game, it is up to you if you want to go be in love with a girl or not. The ending disregards any relationship that you pursued but still ends up with an unusual happy ending.

I don't know how to explain it without spoiling.

You basically develop relationships with other characters to raise the S. Link of a certain category to raise the power of the Personas you create to kick ass during the Dark Hour.

The story is alright and some of the events are hilarious (Operation Babe Hunt FTW) but like Silver Wolf said, the P3 ending is kind of sad...

Sounds fun, but the whole thing about the ending is turning me off. I think I'll pass on it.

The ending left me in a bad mood for a whole month... And I played the regualr and fes in 1 shot. Double whammy. -.-;;

I suggest Xenogears for PSX, it has one of the best games made and there is romance as well between the two main characters and among others as well which is really good and interesting.

Thousand Arms on the PSX was fun and you date the girls to forge better equipment. Its a classic.

Count me in. I think I recall my brother saying something about this game. Maybe I'll be able to go over and steal it from him. :neko:

Ha ha, that sounds nice. I think I'll look around for it, but I don't think I'll be able to buy it until next paycheck (assuming I find it). -_-; I'm spending a lot this month.

The tales series are always a great game with great character relationship like in TOA, the best game i ever played due to the triangle romance. Tales of destiny 2 are also great. I really recommend Odin Sphere bcoz all of the playable character have their own love story to tell in a war period which is really cool and you would like the 2d arts a bit.

but out of all the game. i think the one that has the best romance relationship, is none other than Final Fantasy 10!! the ending was super sad and unexpected to me. with great voice actor and nice graphics the game even get award.

There also Riviera: The Promised Land, another great game that has some good romance kinda theme in it. Of course you'll need a PSP to play it, there also a version for Game Boy Advance too.
