DFC: 360 finishing last in 2012's $47B market
Game-industry analyst firm predicts Microsoft's console to be a "distant third" to the Wii and a resurgent PS3; DS on track to be best-selling platform ever.

This week, market research and analyst firm DFC Intelligence released its latest report, titled "DFC Intelligence Forecasts Video Game Market to Reach $47 Billion by 2009." As the title suggests, the San Diego-based research firm thinks the worldwide game industry's worth will increase by $14 billion in the next two years from its estimated $33 billion 2007 worth.

In addition to its pan-platform market predictions, DFC also handicapped the three-way race between the most recent crop of consoles. It predicts that sales of all three systems--the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360--will total between 180 and 210 million units by 2012. In the shorter term, DFC believes the Wii will continue its winning streak until at least the end of 2008, at which point the PS3 could start taking over.

"We could have a situation where the Wii sells more hardware units, but by 2012 the PlayStation 3 is generating more software revenue," said DFC analyst David Cole.

Cole also believes that although the battle is far from over, the Xbox 360 will likely be relegated to third place when the dust finally settles. He says Microsoft's dependence on the US and Canadian markets are hampering its efforts to make the console a worldwide phenomenon. "The Xbox 360 will need to build a strong base outside North America to avoid being in a fairly distant third," forecast Cole.

DFC analysts also looked at the portable market, predicting that handhelds generally and the DS in particular will continue to see strong growth. "Revenue from portable game software has more than doubled in recent years," said Cole. "We think that the Nintendo DS could eventually become the best-selling game system ever in five years."

The company also augured that the worldwide PC gaming market will be worth more than $13 billion by the year 2012.

Microsoft just need to look from a global point of view, or said it other words, from an "Asian" point of view. Their strategy didn't give good results in Japan, for the 360 was a failure over there. They concentrate their efforts in the states (and other countries where English is the first language) only, leaving place to Nintendo and Sony, to take over the rest of the world.

Entertainmental software and hardware technology trends are sometimes unpredictable unlike what analyzes say . Look at Wii ; It is next-gen best seller game console hardware now . My prediction is that 1-PS3 2-XBOX 3-WII . PS3 has a huge possible game software library . Xbox not yet . And I don't know if Wii can play/work a game that is easily playable at Sony PS3 platform . Now If we look into the games that will released 2008/9/10 ; it seems that PS3 will be for more hardcore gamers-less casual gamers . Xbox will be fair on hardcore and casual . Wii will be more casual-less hardcore . That market share line can be gradually change for a new king console .

For 2012 Gaming market prediction is 47.000.000.000 $ . Will international big movie and entertainment corporations stay silent ? Universal , Dreamworks , Pixar , Warner Bros ... What will they do ? Buying share stocks , establishing a hi-tech game company , buying a game company ...

Also What the reason are EA buying good game maker companies ? Market domination or earning more money by making quality games ?

What will be the best effect on consoles sales ? Add-on specializers like a Linux OS in PS3, online gaming and download , music , movie , photos , other tech connectability.... Back to basics ; just game , online game , best gaming performance , full game entertainment , more reality , quality gameplaying-story-interface , best interaction between games and gamers.... Casual gamers.... Hardcore gamers.... Price ....

3 entertainment consoles and computer . Lots of games will be making these platforms . 220 millions consoles will be sold but will 220 millions games be able to be sold ? Turning back to games garbage .

XBOX should work like Coca-Cola who markets its brand with the country that it invest .

Infinite Discovery and some more Japan 3rd party game companies may help XBOX to be sold more in Japan .
