Gears of War movie will be an "enormous" film (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=173098)...

The Hollywood script writer given the responsibility of penning the silver screen adaptation of Epic's Gears of War has said that movie will be an "enormous film".

Speaking to GamePro.com, Stuart Beattie, whose writing credits include Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, explained that it's likely the Gears movie will be shot entirely on green screen like 300.

"There's no way to build that world any other way, really", he said. "That's a huge world. It's a planet and it's a bubble and it's a building. It's an epic sci-fi war and an enormous film. To get it made at all, the only way to make it for a price is to be on a soundstage. But the game also has that look, which is really interesting, so I think it will dovetail really nicely."

Beattie also said he's going to be "riding" Epic's "asses" about the film script and is working closely with the developer and Gears's daddy CliffyB.

Epic has "lived with this game more than I have and they definitely know these characters, this world and all that kind of stuff. I think the things that they need to develop their games are the same things that I need to write my script. That's just a treasure trove waiting to be mined as far as I'm concerned".

Why? Why is this happening?

Because it's easy money.

Hopefully it turns out better than all the other game movies since the game developer is working closely with the script writer, but then again, the situation was the same for DOOM and we all know how that turned out.

Last news I head about this was New Line Cinema was worried about it going over the budget.

Its not easy money, game adaptations have almost always failed ... let take Doom as a example, its budget was $60 million and its box office was $55,987,321 (I am taking this from Box Office Mojo) ... even if there were movies with more commercial success (Tomb Raider) its a very risky affair.

You can see for yourself ...

Or just not going to see it happening soon.

Lets hope the same happens with Prince of Persia and Tekken, its too late for Hitman (even if, honestly, that might do relative well if not being released the end of next month instead of during the summer).

It would/will be a good movie, if they know what they are doing.

Oh yeah, here's the thread in the movies discussion for GoW.

Cramming such a game into a 2-3 hour movie doesn't seem good but then again, the same could apply to all video games>movie.

I wouldn't mind a Gears movie, I kinda enjoy most of the video game movie.

My favorite so far would have to be, Resident Evil, didn't have any characters from the game but, the elements was there.

And the runner ups would have to be, Silent Hill and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. I'm sure theres a few more good ones out there, just can't think of it right now.

By the way Ulee Bohl(?), if you are seeing this then by Allah get your filthy hand of this movie. I've seen House of the Dead and despite some promise it is a very bad cheesy film.

If you want to be successful though you might want to make a movie that makes fun of yourself.
