Ehh, don't you mean FAQ?? -they're the same thing. :P
Anywho, hello communitors! I'm working on a CAQ guide, but would like your opinions and some help on what questions you've commonly been seeing asked on the forum. Now it gotta be general forum feature related or bittorrent problems related. No commonly questions about anime series, musics, or odd questions that doesn't related to this network.
This is a short sample of what I've done so far;

General Forum Use:
Why can't I make a post at the Request Board?
You need at least 30 post(s) to become a Member. Only Member can start request not Junior Member and remember spam = Ban.
But I don't have much to say in the community. Is there any other way to increase my post count without spamming?
Yes, if you're absolutely the anti-social type. There is another way, you can search around the internet finding high quality anime related images and upload them to the Gallery Section. For each image(s) you upload, your post count will increase by 1.
Please take note, even if / when you are able to make a request, it may not be full filled. We do not guarantee your request(s) to be full filled. We will wish you good luck on your request, tho. So Good Luck!
I see some members are able to delete their own post(s) and even their threads. How do I go about doing this, too?
Members are only allow to delete their post, but they do not have permission to delete their own thread. To delete your post, edit it, and at the very top panel, you should be able to see the delete option. As for Threads, If your thread in question requires deletion. You can try and PM a Moderator that's online by checking 'Active Users Panel' on the 'Main Forum Page.'
VIP members are allow to delete their own Post(s) and Thread(s).
What are the different colors for each member's name mean?
Junior Member - The new guy or a person that haven't participate in discussions very much, yet.
Member - A person that decided to upgrade their name to be bold; to be known.
VIP - Member(s) that has constributed in many good ways toward the community.

one that appears a lot :p
My download is slow...
give some possible reasons: firewalled, NAT, port-range, not many seeders/peers, ...
possibly redirect to places like http://btfaq.com for more detailed info
We could also mention some reliable btclients (for people new to bittorrent) and some info about how to use/configure them
Links to threads/sites with a manual to various things like codecs/ alcohol/ port-forwarding
Meaning of the various short noticings such as RAW, CENS, SUB, PV, CG, ....
Last but not least: link to the faq 'cause nobody seems to read them :p (all those questions about how to upload a torrent...)
Sorry this isn't very detailed, but I'm just making this up at this moment :p Some things probably aren't really necessary.

For portforwarding go to www.portforward.com.
for people who don't know if they have a router, check out the brands on that site. hint: also if you run dhcp you are using a router.
recommended: change the port(range) you use in your bt client. isps are choking the normal range 6891-6899. choose a different port(range) in the options of your btclient.
regarding image file formats.
bin cue ccd mds iso nrg .....etc.
forget nero and use daemon tools or alcohol 120%. see tools section for the programs.
Q: how do I make an image?
A: use isobuster or alcohol 120% or clonecd.
Q: I have a bin but no accompanying cue file, what to do.
A: create one using isobuster.
Q: I have gotten a console game image, how do I run it on the pc?
A: most of the old console games can be played on the pc with an emulator. check zophar.net
Important: PS2 games CANNOT be played on the pc! either get a PS2 with a modchip or swapmagic trick or get a hdloader.
Q: are any of these ..... in english?
A: NO, 99,9% of the things posted here are Japanese. read the post for more information.
Q: I can't install a game, a weird message pops up with scrambled text?
try to change your regional settings to japanese and change your unicode to japanese languages>> advanced. also read the post that came with the torrent for details.
Q: why can't I connect to the site or tracker?
A: the site and/ or tracker are down.
these are just some suggestions. feel free to comment.

Q: Why does my download stop at 99%
A: (thanks to osaka)
This could be the reason for some of these cases but beware of the file Thumbs.db I think it's only for windows XP but it causes headaches for many torrents as it is invisible and chages often. You unknowingly make a torrent which includes it and then seed it which is ok, as long as the thumbs.db file is the same. But windows refreshes or updates the thumbs.db often. When that happens, the folder you are seeding isn't complete anymore, it says it's only 99% :(
Windows XP, by default, shows the thumbnails view of certain folders, whether you want it to or not. Even if you choose Details (or some other view) as your default by going to Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab and click Apply to All Folders, Explorer may still revert back to the clumsy Thumbnails view. It does this for any folder in which it finds the THUMBS.DB file; naturally, if you delete this file, it won't happen again. In a folder, go to tools > folder options > view tab > UNCHECK "hide protected operating system files" The thumbs.db files should show themselves. Now you can exclude them from your torrents.
Those of you using MakeTorrent to create torrents, make sure "always skip thumbs.db" is checked.

Hope this helps.
Q: why can't I connect to the site or tracker?
A: the site and/ or tracker are down.

If you can never connect to the tracker, some of your ports may be blocked. Happens sometimes with university ISP's. Try to connect to the tracker by tunneling/bouncing.

I have a suggestion too. You should add:
Q : What does the stats under my username mean (UL, DL, Ratio)?
Q : What is seeding and how do you do it?
Q : What is the difference between Local and Remote trackers?

This has been brought up in dozens of threads and is in the
announcements section as well. The tracker has been down
for about a week or two. HongFire has been sick so he
hasn't been able to work on it.

I don't understand Japanese. How do you guys play the games without knowing Japanese? Is there a translation program that helps? What do you guys do? Thanks.
tds716
02-01-2005, 09:29 PM
Unless there's a fan-translation group that translated it (don't know one that was). Very few Hentai games were translated into English, so basically if you don't know Japanese, well, there's nothing anyone could. :(
There are a few English ones, but most of them are licensed.

>Is there a translation program that helps?
There is a program called text hooker. It doesn't work for all games, though, and some games need a patch to work with it. What it does is catch the text the game is displaying and put it in a window where you can copy and paste.
AFAIK there are also plugins for it that will send the text to babelfish like services or do dictionary lookups. I haven't tried the plugins, however, since I usually only need to pick out unfamiliar kanji.

I see various people asking how to change the settings to japanese, although there are good guides here this question keeps poping out, so maybe you can include a link to them. you can include too a guide of the abbreviations used in chat rooms or forums like :OMG, IMHO. etc... so there all know what this means ( well, maybe some one not know all of them,... or even none  )

I've two questions regarding the forum:
What is the use of the Reputation Points? And how exactly do you view them?
Good question :), though I regret to inform you it already has been answered here
http://www.hongfire.com/forum/faq.php? (see the large title user reputation system), as far as I know only reputation power is kinda fuzzy, it doesn't seem to follow the rules stated there (it's just less :p, I think the influence of posts is decreased, don't know about the other stuff).
If anything else (not stated there) is still unclear, feel free to ask.
And the use of it is under heavy debate :p. Don't pay too much attention to it ;). (like see mine, I don't know how I got it, I don't make that many good/helpfull posts :p. It's all opinion of course :)).

Hey i have a question, when i download a game it comes as a rar file type. When i try to convert it to iso, cue, ccd, or whatever it always says its in some kind of wrong format. I changed my comp language to Japanese but nothing works. I've downloaded a ton of programs (alcohol 120%, CloneCD, Nero) and no success.
If u have any suggestions or help i'd appreciate it
Thanks

hi, i was trying to find out how i can see mg U/D Ratio like some of the members here. And I read through this post, did I understand it right that there is something wrong with the tracker and hongfire is unable to work on it yet that is why my Upload/Download Ratio does not appear near my Nick in my posts? Is there another way for me to find out what my current ratio is? My download PC would reboot by itself sometimes (when there is some power maintenance ongoing) so I am not sure if I was able to seed enough for some of the torrents I downloaded. Thanks in advance for any help. (Sorry if this has been discussed in another thread - my search didn't reveal it, and I'm quite new to this site).

I try to go to a torrent thread and I get this message:
"dudeo, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."
What could be wrong with my account, my ratio is 1.12 which is positive. So what is wrong?
