FFXI vs WoW

well since the open beta test for WoW has ended i wanna hear ur opinions on which game is better and please tell why if possible ;)

ok ill go first,
Unfortunitly i didnt get my chance to play WoW open Beta but when i kept reading other posts in forums its seems to sound sucky. Playing solo is not a bad idea but barely having party's sucks because you could solo through the whole game. After experiencing the wonders of FFXI it gets boring when u get higher lvl and the whole game is a must party which also sucks cause u cant solo and lvling takes forver. The Graphics in WoW sucks compare to FFXI but the colors are great. All and all i havent heard any story line to WoW yet so im still thinking should i go back to FFXI or play WoW. :)

I thought playing WoW was a great experience. The graphics are not as a good as FFXXI, if I see screenshots from FFXXI. But the graphics are still quite good. And the scenery really gets you into the game. I didn't get to a very high lvl at WoW but I still had many wonderful hours of playing. The quests were really cool. And soloing worked quite good with my character. Although party is always easier of course. A very good experience for me.

I was one of the open beta testers and i found wow a really amazing game. There's a lot of quests to do. Even tho u can solo through the game there are eilte quest which give u really nice items but those you'd have to find a party. I haven;t played FF11 but i seen some screen shots of it and the graphics look better than wow. Leveling in Wow is kinda ez if u know where to go and if u fight the right monsters. There aren't that many skills in the game moat of them are just upgrades to ones u aready have. In Wow u have to buy ur skills. There's also jobs in Wow and u can make ur own weapon and armor. The only big problem in the open beta was the constant lag spikes but it was just a beta and blizzard is going to add a lot more to the retail game.

I didn't get to beta WoW but I have it pre-ordered and can't wait to play it. I've played FFXI for 6 months before the expansion (forgot the name) and found it way too time consuming just looking to party, not to mention the language barrier/culture problems. So sometimes I just give up partying and just try to solo, but it's no fun soloing because even hunting "easy" is too dangerous and risky of demotions.

I was fortunate enough to get into wow open beta.

Only got up to ~ lvl 30. But even then I already found that the instance runs and any other quests or raids worth doing in the late game ~can't~ be done solo. If you don't care about the items or warcraft story, you can solo with the sidequests, but even those get hard later on!

What's the problem with WoW's graphics ?
Nobody understand that it's how the Warcraft series looks ?
That's what WC players mostly want.
Even I, that don't like WC, I like WoW very much, the graphics may not be state of the art, but it's pretty nice to play.
If I want an eye-candy game, I just have to play EQ2, and watch my comp burn :/

I played FFXI and it was a great MMO, a hardcore xp grinding / pt driven game, while WOW on the otherhand is a bit more lax on that...But hey to each his own...
I'm debating whether to get back into the MMO scene as it does take a lot of time out of one's life...(For those of you who manage to survive MMO addiction) How do u do it??? LOL neway I'm also a fan of WC series ever since WC2....At anyrate enjoy ur mmo adventures whether it is WOW or FFXI or even EQ2 ;D

WoW is wow.
It's like the uber mmorpg.
That being said all mmorpgs have annoying flaws, such as level grinding, whatever, but WoW gives you a LOT to do, and it's fun.
Plus leveling never really felt like a grind...which compared to Everquest 2 or gasp, ragnarok online, is amazing.
If only it wasn't so expensive XD...

I like FFXI. Takes a lot of investment, but there's something about it that I find aesthetically pleasing, something I don't find in WoW.

last friday I skipped school, so I was lucky enough to get three accounts for the World of Warcraft European Open Beta. I have already been playing the Korean Open Beta and I really think it's an impressive game.. but the graphics of FF look really nice and the fact it has something anime over it attracts me to it. Still after probably three months of playing it, I'm feeling the game as if it was a new one every day I log on. The WoW world is just so "real"!

- Mailboxes for letter sending
- Griphyrs to fly from one destination to another
- Having to wait for the ship like we do at bus and train stations, the wait after you come on to the ship and it's docked for more people to eventually arrive
- Trading chat in major capital cities and even the fact there [are] capital cities.
- The major difference in storyline ON THE SAME SERVER with different races

it's an amazing game. I will see if I can get a look at this FF game and play it for myself so I can compare it for this thread, though I see many people have been impressed by WoW.. I think also the fact that SO MANY PEOPLE are playing! the friday they opened account registration I was skipping school as I said, so I got accounts..and then 4 hours later, registration was closed and all accounts taken. I dunno how many people play FF. But I will have a look :)

Hmmm FFXI and WoW. I played both (thanks to my cousins), didn't really like them both but I definately like WoW better. FFXI I think is too Co-Op I couldn't survive in the game with just myself and I HATE being in a clan or some made up group, but in WoW I was powerful enough to cause havok even to some lvl 35 groups (Paladin lvl 40 my cousins character). But that's just opinion.

Being a Paladin in WoW kicks ass.

Don't like either of them? You can always try Star Wars: Galaxies or City of Heroes/Villians.

FF XI = Made for long term gaming and party gaming (Needs at least 3 Months to get to Lv 50 and Max Lv is 75)
WoW = Made for short term and solo playing (Get to Max Lv 60 in 1 Month)

wow is really intrestsing it's the first online game i didn't care aboiut my xp bar..there are so many quest ..and they give a lot of xp during and after the quest ..so i decided to enjoy the game and it's really cool ..many graphics and many areas ...so many ...

I saw WoW in action at my cousin's house and it seemed great. Don't know why people are complaining about graphics, they look good to me, maybe you got crappy video cards, or a bad monitor, lol. Though the only problem I would have with WoW is the monthly fee's, $25 without tax yet I think is quite high, :mad:

FFXI has awesome graphics(to me at least), but the game itself is too time-consuming, some say the farming/crafting isn't designed nicely, but I didn't really have any problem til the gil-farmers(RMT a-holes) arrived, which then lead to my semi-quitting of FF ^^; It's surely a great game, which is why I still couldn't quit it totally, if one day Square-Enix did take care of the gil farmers properly, then may be I will play more, providing if I have more time than I do now ^^;;

WoW's graphics is good, though the character design doesn't appeal to me much, I prefer anime-style design than cartoon-style ^^ The good thing about WoW is the solo system, the craft system isn't all that exciting as they have claimed it to be, and I am not a fan of pvp, so I won't even comment on raids, but I will say, they did great on raids, other games would force you to pvp with people to get the ultimate rare, but WoW's pvp is more like a for-fun thing...

Story-wise, I personally like FFXI's story, because it's more anime-like. WoW has a good story too, but sometimes the patriotism and such kinda get on my nerve... and they surely haven't created a idol for me yet, unlike FFXI who have Semih(the mithra ranger), Shantoto(the evil taru) and Arujido-Marujido(cool taru mage) to amuse me ^^

At the end, I would vote for WoW for short time gaming, but FFXI if you have the time ^^

I played FFXI for 1 year and half and before WOW got out, from the pictures I had seen of WOW I could only say it had this too polished graphics that seemed to make the game unreal.. I look for a bit of reality and ingame experience in MMORPGs ~_~ a way to use my alter ego haha.. anyways, when I started playing WOW.. well, the game beats FFXI by the points :P I got 5min to get used to the graphics since they seem quite N64 polished style but still able to involve the player in the scenery to its fullest!! ^_^ the quest/leveling system is marvelous! Enough of dull kill monsters to level.. the quests give the player a good story line :P and good exp. I prefer to do a quest and gain exp killing monsters for the quest and then earning a exp boost from the quest's ending ^_^!

Nice PVP system, non seen in FFXI, that has this crappy Ballista system.. and the battles themselfs are preety catchy ^_^ not only auto-attack hehe.

Last but not the least.. FREEDOM!! Enough of being stuck to the ground :P in WOW you can jump, swim!!! and basicly you dont get this invisible wall in cliffs so that you cant fall!!

WOW is as true as it can be :P 5 STARS!
FFXI is still a preety good MMORPG but compared to WOW, well.. I advice WOW ^_^

I've been playing FFXI for about...2-3 months and amazingly, I hit 50! lol
Anyways, I feel there's alot of things you can do in ffxi
Level too low? Go level up! Bored of your job? Change!
Don't feel like leveling or your wallet empty? Go farm! Don't want to do anything? Run around and do silly things with your LS members or friends =)
Like most MMOs, I do agree that FFXI has it's flaws.
Waiting for parties is a tad annoying...sometimes your job determines whether if you get a PT or not...soloing will get you very low exp.
But I believe partying is a strong point for FFXI.
You can make new friends, it's more interesting to work with new people than the same standard set of people (well, unless you got a good static).
The mission story line's are pretty awesome (I'm a Windurstian), the jobs are cool, I've made some friends..chocobo's rock lol and Summoner > all~!

anyways, enough rambling from me
and now to make fun of WoW while i'm here >.>

I was unfortunate to join FFXI when the PS2 release came out and thus I got an overdose of agitation when grouping with so many noobs who cannot simply run around Valcrum (Sp?) Dunes and hug the sides until they see one nice safe-looking spot and go 'let's camp here'. 80% of the time, the spot they chose has a goblin patrol walking by. 90% of those time, I make negative exp. It's a wonder I reached level 18 -_-;;

FFxi > wow >= EQ 2

FFxi is the better game, I've gotten various jobs over 50 no problem when ffxi did cross over to ps2 I was there it wasn't that bad just depends on if you understood the game, most of the jp players acted on server tryin to guide us not pl us but tell us where or what we could do to be safe from gobs but gobs are killable after 15. I've been reading Eq2 is catching wow in members, plus in egm the drop rate of wow has been increasing some members go to eq2 some to guild wars some to ffxi

There are certain aspects in FFXI that beat WoW. Currently, WoW has the worst dev support I've ever seen in MMO history. FFXI is still going strong. At is enough reason for me to quit WoW and consider joining FFXI again

Hmmm...can't decide bcoz I haven't play WoW before. Being a FFXI player since March this year, for wat I've experienced in FFXI, I can't say it's flawless, but they keep improving time over time, that's make us players safety and confidence w/ their services( they've been for more than 2 years now...). The game though is kinda time consuming like most ppl said and Gilsellers ...I WANNA KILL THEM ALLLLLL!!! :) other than that, it's a great experience in the Vanadiel World for me ;) (Lakshmi server :D)

IMO, the only difference for me between the both games is FFXI can't PvP while WoW can...heh...so it's just depends on which suits you more to play a MMORPG

FFXI is my vote.
Ive tried both, and noticed that WoW doesnt have a good dev support while in FFXI, they're improving it everyday.

And u know, it took me half of a days to just DOWNLOAD n UPLOAD all the patchs.. err (when i re-installed FFXI). Its crazy thou.

I'll have to say FFXI is better. It is an amazing game, yet very frustrating and time consuming. The problem FFXI has (and every other MMORPG, no doubt) is the ridiculously large amount of gilsellers taking over the community. The fishing bots also held an unfair advantage over legit players trying to earn some gil.

I had to make myself quit a bit after I reached the end-game stuff in fear of it getting in the way of my schoolwork. I still have my cravings to play from time to time though.

In FFXI I like the sense of the player population being a "nice" big community, where everyone can help each other, and only rarely are people in competition.

WoW is a good game, but it just didn't make me think "hmm i could be playing this in like 2 years" as you can get stuff done quite quickly. With FFXI I know its gonna take me hella long to to get to all the end game stuff.
