First of all, I know we had a few threads related to the topic at hand, particularly the one created by adun50 in 2005 (http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31740). However, none of the similarly themed threads that I found had a poll, which is why I'm posting it here. :P
However, if the staff feels this topic is too redundant compared to the one I liked above, they are free to merge the threads. :)

Anyway, I'm curious about my fellow HF members's current situation with their wisdom teeth so this thread is for them to vote so that I and other people interested in the topic can get a picture. Also, they are free to share their experiences regarding what they had (or still have, perhaps) to go through in their wisdom teeth removal surgeries.

Here's my fairly recent experience, conveniently put in spoiler tags to save some space, as well as for the sake of those who already read it in HF-Greeters social club (who won't be missing out much if they decide to skip it) or those not interested:

I initially had 2 of my 4 wisdom teeth removed a couple of weeks ago. The ones in the right side of my mouth to be precise. The procedure to remove them took about an hour and a half. I didn't think it wasn't quite as unpleasant as I heard it would be and it certainly wasn't as bad as living with the aftermath either: lots of blood in the operated areas and swollen cheek. Sure, it was nice to live almost solely on softer and colder food such as soup, ice cream and gelatine for about a week... but I also missed other foods like popcorn, meat and snacks. :( Ah, and I also got a fever for a couple of days. >_>

A week after the surgery, I had my stitches removed, which was good because I think they were causing me some discomfort to eat. After that, I pretty much returned to my usual eating habits, except for the popcorn. =/ Oh, and my cheek hasn't completely returned to normal yet, probably because the removal of my lower right wisdom teeth was, say, intense for my bone tissue in the area. Oh well, at least it isn't causing me any pain anymore but it's still an eyesore to me.

Yesterday, I removed the last 2 wisdom teeth (the ones in the left side of my mouth). Since the ineditism of the first surgery was gone and I knew what to expect, I was a bit nervous this time aorund. Yet, surprisingly enough, the procedure took only 1 hour to be done and it wasn't too hard on me. As I type this, my left cheek is swollen but not quite as badly as my right one was and the the operated area ceased to bleed a bit quicker. And best of all, I had no fever after the surgery. :kakashi:
BTW, this is my 1st thread with a poll so I hope I got the options right. :p

We already talked about this in the HF-Greeters thread, but no I haven't had my wisdom teeth removed yet. My dentist recommended I have at least two of them removed but I haven't done anything about it yet because 1) it's expensive, and 2) it's a little scary. :P

I'd rather be unconscious when they do the procedure even though it would cost a lot more. I don't like the idea of being awake while they break apart and rip out my teeth. >.>; Though based on what you said, that part isn't even as bad as the recovery, which I'm not looking forward to either. ^^;

Oh well, maybe I can put it off a while longer. There's no urgent need to do it right now anyway.

Where is your poll Rick?
I was lucky with my wisdoms, a little novicane and out they came. Some pain but not real bad the next few days. For me having the same bad teeth as my mum that just had to happen.
Humans don't even need them any more because of our diet and a lot of people have problems with them, like never really growing out. Having braces as a child seems to just make the wisdoms more troublesome later because there is no room for them.
We need a hentai viewing dentist to clarify that though.
Glad you seem to be recovering just fine. Don't let the sockets dry out or you will wish you hadn't.

NM about the poll question, there it is now. I must have had a browser glitch.

Heh, we talked about it yesterday.

So yeah, I had my wisdom teeth [left] removed yesterday. Went there calm and relaxed 'till I sat on the chair and got told about the ever so small chance of the feeling in my lip being permanently affected. That's when I freaked the f* out.

But then I got to hear I could put on my own mp3 player, listening to some Mindless Self Indulgence <3 whilst the operation went smoothly. Afterwards I put in my earrings, could talk again in a matter of 2 to 3 minutes. [or rather, realized I still could] and danced a bit in the special waiting room cause I felt good and happy it was over, followed by my walk home [15 to 20 mins]

At home things went downhill, getting a headache, which formed into a migraine that forced me down on my bed for nearly the whole day [the headache lasted 'till the next morning]

The bleeding lasted from about 9 am 'till 2 pm, quite heavy. Puked a few times in the afternoon / evening, and went to bed early.

The next morning, a bit of a slumbering/lurking headache, but all was better. I even ate again, and quite strongly too. My cheek is now still a bit swollen, but I feel quite good ^_^

My day of loving my wisdom XD

[not looking forward to the next operation tough >.<]

@Xebi: At least you had some good music to listen to. :p I, on the other hand, had to listen to some music in the radio instead as the earphones would get in their way. At least most of the music in the radio were OK.

Does that mean your wisdom teeth aren't messing with your other teeth yet?

I have to wait for the two on the left to fully grow until my dentist can decide whether or not to offer the option to me...

No, never been removed and there's no need to remove them. Surprisingly most members of my family had problems with them, except for me.

I had my wisdom teeth (Aka ROOT CANAL) like 2 years ago and the dentist numbed my mouth. While I had a numbed face, I tasted something burning in my mouth. Mostly because the dentist is drilling through my teeth, trying to break them, cutting them in half and washing the drill with water. At the end, I did all four of my wisdom teeth. I was satisfied that I had done all four teeth because I don't had to go again with the surgeon of tasting foul burning teeth. I was quite happy after I did it because i don't have to worry about my teeth again. Not worst than having a injury like a broking bone for a week until surgeon. HAVING WISDOM TEETH IS THE EVOLVE FORM OF FEELING PAIN - YOU HEARD ME, NO PAIN NO GAME

P.S. It isn't painful as it looks - Take less pain killers to heal faster

I was very late 27 and 28 years
I had to remove the 2.
I was hoping they stayed, but they started to mess up after a while.

Mine kicked in last August. Couple of people say they distort the order of your teeth or something? O.o
My mom has had them since she was 14, and she never removed hers. Her teeth looks fine to me.
I guess it only affects some people.

My dentist says my wisdom teeth are growing in perfectly. No need to remove them since my mouth probably has enough room for them.

i have my wisdom teeth and i don't need to get them removed because the rest of my teeth were small enough for there to be enough room.

Update on my experience with wisdom teeth:

I've finally got my stitches removed this morning. Quite the relief, I must say. Stitches can be quite a pain when you try to eat certain foods. That means I won't be having soup as lunch/dinner for quite a while starting from today. :D

Had my wisdom teeth taken out a week before Christmas '08. Wish I had that done that much earlier. All I was stuck eating was jello and pudding lol >.>

That's good. When my friends got there wisdom teeth removed they had to eat lots of ice cream and mostly just that because of the pain.

man what really is bad is when food gets stuck within the hole that is left behind and = rotting food within swollen teeth = BAAAADBADBAD TASTE AND ODOR

That is, if you are unlucky enough to have food stuck there, which depends greatly on what you are eating. I did my best to limit what I ate to pretty much fruits (after putting them in a blender, of course), jello, soup and ice cream only. Never had that problem of having food stuck, at least not when my mouth was swollen.

It also helps if you use a syringe, depending on if you got one, to flush out the food stuck in the holes. I didn't get one a week after I got mine taken out. Ugh...I couldn't stand the taste and odor in my mouth lol. After I got the syringe, the odor and taste was gone when I used it.

I have mine still, as far as I can tell they're fully grown. I've never had any problems with them, though...

Some people don't need to have them removed. Lucky bastards.
