I know many people in HF are fans of Japanese Hentai Game (or at least, know them). Although lots of people like to play them, most of them don't understand Japanese well (some even cannot read the kanas). So, to help you guys improving your Japanese skill while enjoying gal games, I'll give you a quick tutorial in learning Japs via Hentai games.

First, you need to :
  1. Memorize all Hiragana and Katakana (it's like alphabet in English).
    Spoiler
    List of Hiragana and Katakana
  2. Learn basic prepositions (e.g. に、で、と、や) & verb forms.
  3. Learn how to pronounce hiragana and katakana properly. Not so important. But you need to do this, because sometime words are not typed properly in games (e.g. 違う 「ちがう/chigau」 sometimes is written as ちげー/chigee). This can help you find the original typing.
  4. How to use AGTH.
  5. Have Lingoes 2. You need to install the plugin Vicon Japanese-English Dictionary (must) & Vicon English-Japanese Dictionary (optional).
Why do I use Lingoes 2 rather than ATLAS? Here are the reasons :
  • ATLAS translates the whole sentence at once. It's convenient, but it doesn't help you at all in learning Japs cuz it's a program made translation (Lots of mistranslation and errors).
  • Kanji in Japanese sometimes have multiple meaning. In ATLAS, it only give u the most commonly used meaning.
Then, you need to set the settings.

When you highlight the characters, the program will give the translation of it (them). It's almost the same as ATLAS, except you need to repeat that for every Kanji in the sentence if you don't understand at all, but the accuracy of the meaning in English that you get will be higher (if you understand the prepositions correctly)

Sometimes the program cannot translate the characters :

It happens because you highlight not the form of the Kanji that's in the program's database. To correct this error, you just need to re-highlight it until you get the meaning.

(sometimes, the kanji is not in the database. if that's the case, you need to manually look for it using JWPCE)

To manually look for a kanji :
  1. On JWPCE main window, press F5.
  2. A new window should open, named 'Radical Lookup'.
  3. To use it, you must be able to count the strokes & identify the 'symbols' that made the kanji that u r looking for. It's quite complicated, and take some times.
End of Tutorial

If you have questions about this, just PM me or send me email.

Btw, the name of the game that I used for example is さくらさくら.
