UPDATES (MAIN GAME ONLY, NOT MAGNUM UPDATES):

    Spoiler

UPDATE 1100 (Thanks to MahouKenshi) (THIS UPDATE IS OBSOLETE):

    MF Link

UPDATE 1150 (Includes all fixes in 1100) (THIS UPDATE IS OBSOLETE):

    SS Link

    MF Link (Rome01)

UPDATE 1600 AND NEWER UPDATES (OBSOLETE) are not posted as it's pretty large a file and useless for all practical purposes of most visitors of this topic Go get Magnum instead, it's got all 1.600 features and its own unique content.

    2.0 "Magnum" (EXPANSION PACK):

    INFO: http://blog.alicesoft.com/archives/3198974.html
    Getchu: http://www.getchu.com/soft.phtml?id=729330

    Spoiler

    Prominent Changes:
    • The interface will be revamped, and probably in 2.0 (probably not 1.6 since 1.6 is just a software update and 2.0 is the update+new content) content Matilda will be added as a PC plus the strategist galmon Battle Note will be added (appearance is different than in Galzoo Island).
    • Molrun(?) curse will be modified. The first time will be same as before (reset to 1), but 2nd time onwards it'll be -5 level, but level requirement for H next time will be raised, with the item still getting absorbed, so powerlevelling will be somewhat easier.
    • A girl can only absorb FIVE items by H-ing. If you H'd your girl more than 5 times for item absorption, upto 5 excess items will be returned to your inventory. If you did this more than 10 times, then further absorbed items will be lost permanently.
    • Party screen will show 32 people at a time in the upper pane now (switchable between 10-char and 32-char display).
    • There will be an encounter bar showing how long until next encounter happens.
    • Items can now be locked to avoid accidental selling/donating.
    • There will be a fast move mode that lets your movement be superfast (same as holding Ctrl in some games?).
    • Zooming methods are slightly modified too but not sure what that's supposed to mean.
    • Characters not participating in battle will also get a small amount of exp now.
    • Mai-hime skill of Atago to be slightly powered up.

    COMPATIBILITY:

Skill effects and their costs as well as the effect of some items equipment etc. will be modified for balancing purpose, so skill pts. of all chars will be returned with all learned skills removed after updating and your existing items will have their power/effect amount modified. Heroines powered up with sex might get powered down as the curse/H system changes a bit. They say there'll still be a "few more restrictions", but hopefully it won't be as bad as Daiteikoku...

    Known Issues:
    • When installing, progress bar is stuck at 0% for a long time. This can happen depending on your computer setup (especially antiviruses), give it a lot of time (10 minutes? ) and it'll eventually proceed.
    • "Kaikai UP" skill is lost, whoever has them. This is a known issue and has been fixed in update 2.010. Therefore, after installing Magnum update to at least v2.010 immediately before loading your savegame.
    • In quest "各員奮励努力せよ", if you have Torako or Katsuko in your starting party, the game stops responding. This is fixed in latest version, therefore update to at least v2.010 before attempting this quest.
    • In certain setups that have Intel onboard displays such as Intel 945 or Intel GMA950, game may fail to display map correctly and stop responding when starting quest "川中島に行こう". For compatibility with these display adapters, a specific update has been issued. See MF download link added below. It is not recommended to apply that update if you don't use Intel onboard displays (using AMD/NVIDIA GPUs instead) or are not encountering problems when launching aforementioned quest.

UPDATES TO RANCE QUEST MAGNUM (INCLUDES RQ MAGNUM 2.082, ITS GRAPHICAL ERROR FIX AND LATEST TADA VERSION UPDATES)
NOTE: NONE OF THE PATCHES INSIDE THIS SECTION ARE ENGLISH PATCHES, THEY'RE ALL SOFTWARE UPDATES. FURTHERMORE, THEY ALL REQUIRE YOU TO INSTALL RANCE QUEST MAGNUM AKA v2.0 FIRST AND WILL NOT WORK WITH THE ORIGINAL VERSION. At the same time, v2.0 is a commercial product and not a free patch, so download link to that will NOT BE provided here as it is against forum rules. Please DO NOT ask for that, doing that can get you BANNED. Get it elsewhere.

    UPDATE 2082 TADA MODDED VERSIONS

These updates are personal customizations of RQM 2.082 made by TADA, the Rance series mastermind. These are officially neither supported nor debugged, but enhances high difficulty gameplay as seen fit by TADA and has lots of extra goodies (skills, quests, characters; most are world 3 exclusive though). Each update includes all the stuff from the previous update as well as new content and fixes so you might not need anything older than the latest one. Still, in case a newer version causes some serious issue, you might want to rollback to an older TADA version or the original 2.082 version. ALL THESE REQUIRE RANCE QUEST MAGNUM AND ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO WORK WITH VANILLA RQ.

12th September 2012 version (OBSOLETE, MODDED FROM ABOVE VERSION AND UNDEBUGGED)

4th October 2012 version (OBSOLETE, MODDED FROM ABOVE VERSION AND UNDEBUGGED)

    SS Link

7th November 2012 version (OBSOLETE, MODDED FROM ABOVE VERSION AND UNDEBUGGED)
This version contains 1 new added quest not included in the original v2.082 of Rance Quest Magnum (exclusive to world 3).

    SS Link

6th February 2013 version (LATEST UNSUPPORTED, MODDED FROM ABOVE VERSION AND UNDEBUGGED)
This version contains further added quests (exclusive to world 3) AND TWO NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTERS not included in the original v2.082 of Rance Quest Magnum.

    SS Link

Disclaimed by TADA himself as ABSOLUTELY UNDEBUGGED, USE WITH CAUTION AND A FULL BACK UP OF YOUR SAVE.

INFORMATION ABOUT TRANSLATION (LQ TRANSLATION PATCHES AVAILABLE):

Rance Quest translation project was kind of stalled as the main translator of HGTP (the initial group that wanted to TL RQ), zweiterversuch, got his computer killed and has been offline for a long time now. Multiple people and groups have either tried or stated to have tried or stated to have contemplated trying to work on the translations. However...

As announced as part of their Otakon 2017 announcement, RQ/M IS PICKED BY MANGAGAMER AND WILL BE RELEASED AS A SINGLE PACKAGE. Extent of content however is not confirmed (i.e. if to include the "unsupported" updates) And for once I'll try to be optimistic since they did release Rance 5D+VI already. Unfortunately for the impatient ones like myself, Sengoku Rance is probably gonna come first (which everyone who cares has played through with the unofficial TL a billion times over by now).

So what's available to me in the meantime? [OUTDATED LINKS]

    Spoiler

In the meantime, SomeLoliCatgirl has made a machine translation by making the game script go through ATLAS, and crazylegsryan has a partial translation with disputed translation quality for those who really can't wait and are prepared to tear their hairs off for a translation, you could try them, but SomeLoliCatgirl's version being primarily ATLAS translation it's crappy as ever, and half the time you might not have a clue what's actually being said. While the maker manually corrected a few things to some extent, still DO NOT EXPECT QUALITY ENGLISH OR EVEN PROPER UNDERSTANDING OF SENTENCES FROM THIS. You have been warned so don't whine about how shitty it is after you try it out. Back up your original Rance Quest .ain file as well as savedata before overwriting it with this. Aside from that, as mentioned before a patch that only tranlates options, characters, item & skill names and some combat text is available on 4chan.
    • Machine translation script by SomeLoliCatgirl[DEAD]

    Spoiler
    MF Link (needs reupload)
    • LQ Translation materials by crazylegsryan (disclaimer: LQ remark about quality is the thread author's personal opinion, visitors may go ahead and try it and decide whether they like it or not); latest version of patch requires Rance Quest Magnum 2.082 with corresponding latest TADA version.

    • Full interface translation for Rance Quest Magnum v2.050 (from 4chan/Rance Translations):

    Spoiler

    Pastebin

Note that the link above isn't itself the DL link, carefully read through it to find the actual DL link. Follow the instructions carefully to make it work with your existing installation of Rance Quest Magnum.
    • Probably compatible with Magnum 2.050 only and nothing older OR newer.
    • My Documents folder will be different than the one mentioned in the instructions if you're using Vista/7/8. Find it from your desktop/start menu links.
    • You may need to rename all save data files starting with "ランス・クエスト" to starting with "Rance Quest" or else the existing saves may not work. Example: "ランス・クエスト_020.ASD" -> "Rance Quest_020.ASD". This is not a problem if playing for the first time.

While a full translation is not available,

  • That was indeed the requirement. Thank you very much.

Edit - It wasn't Squid Men though, it was skeletons oddly enough.

Another quest doesn't seem to feel like cooperating. It's odd though because I always get to the very, very end of the quest (Yellow flashing bar) then I touch what should be the final event and fail the mission.

    • Man I don't know what I should re-spec my characters like Rance into. I used to play Spear Rance (lol) but I'm not sure if Hammers are still the best weapons now.

Also wish I knew programming so I can get H-codes myself instead of waiting lalala.

Edit: For some reason I can't give my custom characters English names anymore. My old customs still have their English names that I gave them though so this is kind of weird. Wonder if it's a bug.

Hmm, it says something about Rance's ero tech, do you have that skill on him? And how high.

I have decided to farm more stuff before playing, but can help if you post pics like this.

it says "You want to see my Ero-Tech? That's fine (and some stuff with Kanji I don't know, last one of those is "bow down" i guess)

The quest requirements don't say anything about Rance's Ero-Tech, though. But since Rance and Rizuna have to be in the party, it might be possible that switching one of them out is not allowed and will fail the quest.

          • I was wondering, what are the requirements to start quest 166?

It seems to ask for five of something, but what?

Oh yeah, to answer the above request about what you need from Prototype909.

It says you need to have Rizna and Rance in your party, and your party must have 4 or less members.

            • Hammer Rance sucks, he can't hit worth a damn. Even with 250% accuracy, miss rate is 25% with hammers. I only use sword Rance.
Early game, hammers are fine, but once you get swords that aren't total kuso, use them instead.

              @Indelacio: Need 5 spirit shackles.

              • Wow, just thought about it.

But not being able to reduce a female's level back to 1 will make it hard for people to clear the Honey Base mission with Rizna if you manage to get a bunch of over level 24 characters and can't bring them all back down to 1 again.

Hammers aren't much of an issue if you never abused them in the first place. The only ones whose ever used hammers in my teams IIRC are Alkaneze and Cessna. Rance using anything other than a sword seems wacky and out of place. If you have other accurate stun attacks that don't miss, hammers can still be awesome though.

                • Can't reduce levels? Make new characters! Level them up quickly to 20, and unless you gave them a higher level cap, you got a team of LV20 characters. Does Rizna need to participate in that quest?

As for "abusing" hammers, are you referring to the original game rules before any patches where there was no damage cap for hammers? That was pretty ridiculous, big hammers aren't very hard to get.
I always liked giving a sword user a high Stun rate (from a +45 stun pocket hammer), then using Train Slash to stun a row of enemies.
Also, hammers almost never hit Masuzoe. Don't know why, but they just don't. So don't use Alkanese in that battle.

                  • It looks like the characters who had KaiKaiUP skill lose it upon transfer to Magnum. The gems still remain equipped allowing to relearn it again but for those characters who learned it and then had the gem replaced by another accessory the skill seems to be gone for good.

                    • That seems to be a confirmed bug according to Alicesoft Wiki which will be fixed in an update.

                      • I have a question again. Why did Alicesoft release version 1.6 patch if they're releasing Magnum on the same day? What's the point? Isn't Magnum supposed to have all the 1.6 updates and extra quests?

It's possible that some people do not want Magnum, so it's like a small gift for them. And maybe they like the 1.6 update enough to change their mind and buy Magnum, which would be good for Alicesoft.

                          Comment

                          • Some customers aren't pirating Magnum, and don't want to buy it. Hence free 1.6.

                            Comment

                            • Still, it'd seem a bit strange, if they like Rance Quest enough they'd buy/pirate Magnum, if they don't want Magnum they'd probably not care about Rance Quest anymore and perhaps not care to get the 1.6 anyway... Unless they got a lot of bandwidth to spare, and have a "since I got the game anyway and they're offering it for free and I got the bandwidth and HDD space, might as well grab it" feeling about the game.

But most people who bought RQ and were not satisfied with it as it is, I think they'd want to get Magnum, by legally purchasing or not (if they thought RQ wasn't their money's worth and yet don't want to spend anymore on upgrading it).

I keep Rance and Rizuna in my party the whole time, so that's probably not it.
