We are currently laying the groundwork for the slav-, er, volunteer labor that is to come for the process of translating a game like this. Please check this post often for details and progress.

Hello to all the Null Entities that populate the internet. This thread is for the Organization, Communication, and Meeting Location for the Translation of the game Premium Play Darkness. We will be concentrating on the Story of the game which appears to have 9 different Paths.

    Style Guide:
Small sounds like, "Eh" will not be cut from the script. They are character traits.

Sounds like "eto~" used in terms of a filler for trying to think of the next words to say will be translated. Western speech also has "Let's see," "Ummm," and "Well..."

Onomonopias will be translated. For instance, a character in Artificial Academy made a habit of saying her action aloud. jiiiiiiiiiiii = *Staaaaaaaare* Such things are unusual and may not be encountered, but they are far from rare in Japanese humor.

Honorifics will be maintained. They are traits of the Japanese system of relationships, and are often invaluable for understanding people's relevancy with each other, and can be used for jokes that would not translate otherwise. I also assume that people who frequent Japanese porn know what a senpai and a (Name)-sensei are, so only the more enigmatic ranks like "Boss," "president," "principal," "vice-commander," "Lieutenant," and the like are to be translated.

All names will be presented in the Japanese style of (Family Name) (Given Name). They're speaking Japanese, why should we pretend they're not Japanese?

Translations will be in American English. I apologize to Canada and England, but what countries use English spelling and terminology as a second language use American versions. As such we will be using trunks instead of boots, hoods instead of bonnets, elevators instead of lifts, and toilets instead of lous.

There are @ commands in the files. These do not appear to be corruptions or mistakes. At this time I believe these to be internal instructions for the game to have characters look at each other as stage direction, so do not erase them. Additionally, the dramatic timing of the directions should try to be maintained.

Natsume, the reporter character, has a personality used in some of the stories that is basically a reformed thug. As such, her dialogue should be translated as rough street lingo, and be fittingly crass for those stories.

Warning: Those who break the style guide will not have a lonely catgirl dropped at their front door in a cardboard box.

I can volunteer to do some translation work and look over peoples translations; to help make them read better OR fit in the screen box if need to. Already started translating a little of the story, but I have come across some paragraphs I can't figure out yet. Don't know any Japanese, but I use a shit ton of translators, common sense, and in-game testing to try and figure out whats going on.

Possibly a bit early when it comes to you guys actually needing this, but I'd like to possibly help with proofreading, scansion, and general pedantry. I know less than zero Japanese, but I speak English like a nativ-well, okay, I AM a native, and pretty good at discovering how to make sense out of a potentially garbled translation.

Hi guys. Like AaronAnonymous said, I´ll be joining the translation team.
I´m fluent in Japanese but... I don´t know a single thing about modding etc so I´ll need some assistance in getting the Japanese text out of... the game?
However, like AaronAnonymous wrote, we are still in the early stages of the translation so I'll patiently wait for the text. In the meantime, I'm willing to help out any
questions that people might have with the Japanese in the game (so azurath01, if you want you can send me the text).
          Cheers!

Hey there woeiwoei, I attached all the Japanese txt files in a rar, and also one of the files I started translating on. There is still some Japanese txt there because I couldn't quite figure those lines out yet.

I've worked as a Typesetter for Scanlation groups before and I can say, it is always best to provide the original version of anything that is being worked on in addition to anything else. Having a copy of the lines in the game that has not been altered will be incredibly helpful for everyone who works on this project. Thanks for the files, azurath.

Great to see that you guys are getting together! I hope that we can some more more translators to join the team. It would be great if you could at least translate a few of the nine different story lines!

I have PM'ed DesmondHume (he set up the AA team workspace) in the hope that he could help us on the way, using his tool to make the text more easily editable in the Google spreadsheet, but he has yet to reply. I realize that it would be very helpful to get the text more accessible and thus easier to translate. I also PM'ed Snoopy (a major factor on the AA translation) letting him know that you're setting up a team, but he has yet to reply.

                  Hi azurath,

I tried opening the text files but I get random symbols and stuff as if the Japanese language is not supported
Could it be the .txt file itself? I'm perfectly able to write Japanese on this laptop and use it everyday for mailing and work in Japanese so the language is definately supported (Windows 7 btw).
I'm sorry for the noob question but, like I said, I'm not such a whizzkid --"

There is nothing wrong with the files posted by azurath01, but you need Japanese locale to open them because they're not saved as unicode. I just opened adv_00_00_00.txt and get this:

Thanks for the tip! Now I'm able to open the files.
I've taken the liberty to translate the entire text file you uploaded azurath. I've attached it together with the original Japanese.
In addition, I've added some notes in order to explain my translation a little bit.

And now I've gotta pack my bags and prepare for my trip that starts tomorrow XD

Hurr durr I write speeches for a living at the moment so I arrogantly offer my peculiar pedantry and esoteric verbosity to ruin your translations with ridiculous liberties. Here's Woei's xlation in midwestern American. You should probably just ignore me, every member of a translation team is worthless except the translators. But I want to help and I can't give backrubs or read moonrunes, so.

                        Spoiler
                        0002:
                        「悪いな、こんなに遅くなって」

                        It's so late, I'm sorry.

                        0004:
                        「気にしないで。私が待ってたかっただけだから」
Don't worry. I've only been waiting. (Literally: It is all right because all I had to do was waiting so it's not that bad)
A little waiting isn't so bad.

                        0006:
                        「でも、おばさん心配してるんじゃないのか?」
But your aunt is worrying about you right.
But your aunt worries about you, right?

                        0008:
                        「大丈夫。さっき雅哉と一緒だって連絡したらそれなら安心って
                        言ってたから。ついでに家でごはんも食べて行ってもらったらって」
It's all right. I've just contacted her I'm with you so she said it's ok (literally: she (the aunt) said she was relieved and that it was all right). While you are at it, she said you could come and have some dinner.
I called her. She was just happy I was with you, and asked me to invite you for dinner.

                        0010:
                        「いや、さすがにそこまでしてもらうのは」
Well, that's really your aunt, inviting me over like that. (But this sentence shows reluctance and with this sentence Masaya kind of declines the offer.)
                        She's too kind. I really couldn't.

                        0012:
                        「今更何遠慮してるの? それにどうせ帰ったって
                        何もないんじゃないの」
Why are you keeping back like this now? Besides, if you go back home now there is nothing to do. (Here Miyako replies to Masaya's holding back with the classical
遠慮-sentence. It is hard to translate but basically means: don't hold back)
Don't be difficult. What are you going to do back at your place, anyway?

                        0014:
                        「まぁ、確かにそうなんだけど」
                        Yeah, that is true...
                        Well, that's true.

                        0016:
                        「でしょ? ほら、それじゃ行きましょ。こっち抜けた方が近道でしょ」
Right! Well, let's go then. This right here is a shortcut right.
Alright then, let's go. There's a shortcut here, right?

                        0018:
                        「おい、待てよ。引っ張るなって」
Hey, wait! I said don't drag me.
Hey, quit it. Stop dragging me.

                        0020:
                        「しかし、結構暗いんだな、ここ」
                        It's pretty dark in here.

It is, right. I've only been her during daytime. I didn't know it was so dark at night.
Yeah. I've only been here during the day, I had no idea it got this dark.

                        0024:

You downplay your worth. It's this quality of editing that distinguishes a great translation patch from a mediocre one. Hopefully all the translations can be looked over at least once.

I actually did my own translation of that file too, but tossed it because this refined version is basically good enough. Main difference, which is a nitpick that no one cares about, is that they're probably talking about Miyako's mom, not her aunt. The guy uses おばさん because that's what he's calling her from his perspective.

Anyway, that's one text file down. Out of... 202? Yeah, hopefully at least one route gets completed...

It would be great if we could find out which files belong to which story lines, or at least to the one that we're going to start with. An idea could be to look in the wiki and choose a story line to go for, play through some of it and then go look in the files for the particular lines. The numbering of the files most probably are an indicator, but there may be some shared ones between one or more of the story lines.

You are more than welcome to join the team, Yandere. I salute you.

                              First Note:
Quick note though, yes the "Auntie" thing is interchangeable with saying "another person's mother." It's something worth taking a look at, because in the situation like this there is probably little merit in Illusion saying something that would insinuate the girl is orphaned and is living with her Auntie....... unless they do a scene where the protagonist fucks the Auntie, but what are the chances of....... let's have the translators take a second look at it once they've gone through the game already.

                              Second note:
Please do not remove things like "eh" or other small sounds that have a meaning to the Japanese ear like in 0036. I am a big proponent of "Translating while holding onto as much as possible." I am born and raised American, and I say "Eh?" I am all for changing some obscure phrase in Japanese into it's American counterpart like saying, A bird in the hand, etc., but those little things that you will hear in the spoken lines, having them removed, will just end up being unpleasant for a player's ear in the long run.

                              Third Note:
I do indeed intend to do the entire project. 202 files with contextual chatter? Psssssh! Try 14,000 lines of out of context dialogue! Compared to Artificial Academy, this is a cake walk! And I do in fact intend to do a final proofreading of all files before the project is considered complete.

                              Fourth Note:
We are still getting the foundations for the project together. We're thinking of doing it along the lines of an online database with limited access so that we won't have people working on outdated versions of the project. The online database is not yet complete, so any work done previous to that will need to be copied and uploaded into the database once it is complete. So hold onto your translations in one form or another so we can conserve labor and not have to retranslate when the central unit goes live. (No innuendo inteded, but hey, this is a porn game.)

                              Death Note:
Yes, I really, really am intending to personally go over every line in the game, not just once either, which will probably result in my own demise from over-editing. I will be splitting the labor for people who are not me as much as possible, like giving files x-xx to people, or Story x-xx to people if we have several Translators who are confident in their abilities to work independently (volunteering for ranges would be preferred though). I will also be asking people to playtest versions of the game at times and give feedback on things that do and don't work. So, when the project gets going full force, I'll be trying to keep things organized and together without causing stress or double guessing. It will all be on my head.

But we are not yet in motion. We're still gearing up. So please look forward to the eventual decoding of the moonspeak that the game is shipped with.
"Wait a second, am I quoting myself?"
