  • [Skin] HS Linear Rendering Experiment v3.1 (update 17/07/24)

To simplify the install process. In this new version, the latest Graphic Patch (v17.07) from 4K diffuse pack, HS image based lighting (3.0) and lighting rendering asistant (1.0) are included.

The game adds a strong S curve at the end of the process, and uses textures with diminished contrast and saturation, which not only makes texture artifact more visible, but also interferes with the linear rendering workflow. PBR shader is designed to create photo-realistic rendering but it only works in linear space, when it's not working in the linear space, we'll see either too strong reflection or too strong shadow just what HS looks like. What I'm trying to do is fix both the texture and curve so that PBR shader can work in the linear space, the results are promising.

    gamma rendering workflow
gamma space texture --> rendering in gamma space --> gamma corrected image

    linear rendering workflow
gamma space texture --- gamma to linear conversion --> linear space texture --> rendering in linear space --> linear space image --- linear to gamma conversion --> gamma corrected image

    HS rendering workflow
over corrected gamma texture --- gamma to linear conversion --> gamma space texture --> rendering in gamma space --> color correction curve --> linear space image --- linear to gamma conversion --> gamma corrected image

    • Limit
Now it only works on female characters, everything else looks gray until their textures been fixed. So I recommend using this on a fresh install, or do a complete backup of your game, and only use it in Studio Neo, if you're using it in main game, press X to disable map. Fully colorable clothes or items can be fixed by readjusting the color.
The Chara maker background can only set to solid color now, but you can load cubemaps in chara maker.
    • How to install
    1. Install 0630DLC from illusion.jp
    2. Install SBX2.5 uncensor
    3. (Optional) Install translation loader
    4. Extract all files copy into the game folder and overwrite
    5. Install IPA 3.3(drag & drop HoneySelect_xx.exe StudioNEO_xx.exe onto IPA.exe)
    6. (Optional) Install wideslider (run HoneySelect_xx_WideSliderPatch.exe and StudioNEO_xx_WideSliderPatch.exe)
    7. (Optional) Grab cubemaps from https://mega.nz/#F!ofhTgbTQ!fAgjV1YlQ7wRy4vZ-LhZNQ
    • How to use
Go to chara maker change your characters' skin and face type to the new types(one new body and 21 new faces), and take the LRE sample character as reference to adjust skins. If you have a huge number of characters, I recommend Ultra Char Editor v0.1 for party.
F5 menu now works in Hscene, StudioNeo and Chara maker.

    Upgrade from v2?
There's not much change to the character, but post effect has greatly changed, the old config files are not compatible, backup the old UserData\GraphicSetting folder just in case you want to roll back.

Does this screw up playing the game normally? How much does this screw up male characters?

From what I can tell, it doesn't affect your normal gameplay (creating characters and h them) it will affect the skin, face, lips, nail, and nips color both for male and female characters. Meaning you have to readjust all of your characters color, or you need to change their skin type to the one specialized for this mod. Also, I think the background in the character creation will be blank, unless you turn off some settings in the mod.

For male characters, as I've said their skin will not look right, except that they don't have the specialized skin for this mod ,so like the females, so you have to read just their skin color.

    • All you really need to do is increase color saturation by 50% if you have things configured err right. I have not messed with this enough but something seem off with the implementation of the tone mapping.

Also the default settings for this does not have gamma correction applied.

You don't need to change the textures. I still have not figured out why plasticmind thinks the textures need changing, maybe because he forgot gamma correction.

In the xml files in the ImageEffect folder set gamma to 0.45454545 to apply gamma correction. Really this value should be 0.45 continuing 45 but the value in the xml file will be truncated at 7 places.
In game use the ACES tonemapper and set camera exposure to 1.
Reinhard will give you a look closer to the vanilla game, but ACES seems to be industry standard or was standard.
Also with HDR lighting you will generally want to use higher light intensity values. Unfortunately illusion in their infinite wisdom has capped light intensity to 2 on lights you place in studio neo, Unity max setting is 8. Because of this your game can look dim in scenes that are supposed to be bright. You can work around this by adding more lights in the same spot but that will increase system load.

Also keep in mind that the default configuration for this mod sets the ambient mode across the whole game to trilight A.K.A. gradient light. I recommended setting it back to skybox (a value of 0 in the xml file).

In the character maker don't forget to increase the intensity of the two directional lights.

In this Image no edited textures or materials were used only vanilla assets.

0.45 continuing 45 is the inverse of 2.2. 0.45 is the gamma to counter the display's gamma, A.K.A gamma correction, gamma to linear conversion from the viewer perspective not the computer's (that is the viewer sees a linear image the computer sees a unnaturally dark image), the effectual removal of the display's gamma. This is standard for games and images.

That formula looks to remove gamma correction, we want the formula above on the wikipedia page.

I'm trying to edit my settings by what you posted. Can you post a screenshot of the LRE default character so I can check my results against yours? Also, did you change any of the other lighting settings?

Then again, maybe you could share the files that you changed?

I did not save the settings used to create that shot but I remember them well enough. I will make a new post.

    • Does this use its own diffuse files or is it using the same files as the 4k diffuse?

I don't understand the above quote. Is the mod only good for blank background posing with females? Is there another mod to correct the other textures?

For LRE_Game_01.xml I recommend you try this instead of the above LRE_Game_01. With this following set of settings do not change your character colors.

Thanks. Not sure what you mean by tonemapper ACES but i'll poke around in the files a bit more later.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to turn off SMAA?

ACES (Academy Color Encoding System) is a tonemapper/tonemapping technique. This mod has five tonemappers to choose from.

I want to turn off SMAA because it causes some blurring, usually most noticeable around small high detail objects like eyes. That being said it is by far the best post process anti aliasing technique.

Use Eusth's VR-mod and edit your vr_settings.xml located in your HoneySelect installation Folder. At the Bottom, right under <EffectBlacklist>, make sure you have
            <string>ColorCorrectionCurves</string>
            <string>BloomAndFlares</string>
            <string>DepthOfField</string>
It will disable most of this mod in VR, since it is not compatible with the current vr rendering configuration. It will work again after this.

        • I have a problem, after having installed the "HS Linear Rendering Experiment + HS Image Based Lighting" when I want to play with the eyes, these don't change, this happens when I press the "F5" key to activate the Mod ... help

Disable the shortcut mod or change its hotkeys. The shortcut mod uses F5 for quick eye switching.

        • I remember that there was a way to get backgrounds back but i sadly do not remember what file to change again? Thanks !

Maybe you need to run the game once to generate the file, but I'm pretty sure the file comes with the plugin.

        • Hello,
First, thanks for your great mod, the game looks really gorgeous with it.

          Unfortunately I've run into issues.
When I'm installing HS linear experiment 3.1 (all in one) on a clean install (HS + party+ arena), it works fine. Then with some additional mods (HS2 Uncensor, wideslider, Alexae skin mod, UI translation AIO), F5 doesn't work anymore in studio neo. If I install additionnally Image based lightning 4.3, F5 do not bring the window in sudio neo nor the game anymore.

Also I cannot make your mod run in VR, as soon as I switch to VR mode, the game eats up all the memory in a dozen of seconds and then, of course, it turns into a slide show (like 0.5fps).
I've tried in VR on a fresh (with party an arena) install with only your mod and the offical VR patch, and on a fresh install and Eustha mod, and I got the same problem with both.

          • I think i'm having some trouble with NEO after using LRE. Seems the characters were transformed in a common object. When i click animation with character selected this is all i got...

Normal Studio's ilumination seems also crashed but i really don't care...F5 doesn't work either.
Game seems okey, F5 works and LRE too.
