  • Blu-Ray and HDTV rips

Since Blu-Ray is becoming more and more popular, I decided to make a thread where Blu-Ray rip and HDTV rip are shown together.

    About the size:
Of this anime (Macross F) episodes:
HDTV rip (by AonE-Gekkostate-Menclave). Very high quality rip. ~370MB one episode
Blu-Ray rip (by THORA). 1st episode is 1000MB (because it is 4000kbs). Other eps are ~550MB. 5th ep is the smallest one - 450MB.

    Where to look:

    1. The center (black space) of the eye.
    2. The contours.
    3. Contours of shoulder - arm line. In HDTV is isn't even visible.
    4. The number of visible lights in the background.
    5. (not shown in pic) All picture. In Blu-Ray there is no blur, colors are more active.

    Pictures:

    Blu-Ray rip: http://img19.picoodle.com/img/img19/...nm_c2d92e9.png

It's up to you to decide if Blu-Ray rip is worth downloading. I decided to take Blu-Ray rips only if they're bellow 500MB.

    hhhrrr....interesting

but for me those points dont justify
a blu-r is around 2gb or more per episode sadly
    i havent seen a blu-r rip below 500mb though

i'd choose the hdtv rip , because some BD have a bad picture transfer so those 2gb of video is worthless while hdtv rip is worth the 400mb
Rule #6: Observe Signature & Avatar Guidelines.

Signatures, avatars and personal photos are to be appropriate content for all ages and within our specified limits. Signature limits: 700 pixels in width, 150 pixels in height and 100kb max in combined images overall and/or a maximum 5 lines of text with a font size of 1 is allowed. Invalid signatures can and most likely will be removed without warning.

This one is from episode 5 (450MB). Because ep 1 doesn't have an opening.

        Check ep 5: http://www.thoranime.org/?p=59
Now you have seen Blu-ray rip bellow 500mb

        And i haven't seen a blu-ray rip that is over 1000MB

P.S.: where are you taking that 2GB? o_O

The Blu-Ray rip is sure better than the HDTV rips, better colors, more detail, however all that adds to the bitrate, so not sure if there'll be many rips below 500MB.
Anyway for me it'll have to depend on the anime to decide if I'm gonna get Blu-Ray rips
if the difference is noticable, I'll probably get them depending on the size like between 500-750, higher than that probably won't get it.

I haven't seen a BD-rip 2GB/episode not even 1080, most stuff over 1GB are an hour or over that long.
There are the Gits:SAC rips that are 4GB but those were 2:40 long and also require bitrate.

There aren't many animes released in BD. And of that, even lesser subs were available for them.
IMO I don't really mind the size if it is of perfect quality. Imagine several years ahead where 1080 is common in every household, and you suddenly had the urge to watch those classics. 640x480 would be a turn-off, wouldn't it?
last sig went down the drain with xs.to

BDRips looks really superior, and since there's no such thing as free food, we have to pay the price for the file size. But are the so called 1080p HDTV rips really 1080p? Aren't they just upscaled by software?

you need to play it on hd LCD also a good graphic card in order to see the different.

to be quite frank, for me, unless the number of animated pores on an animated face is really that important for the plotline of the anime itself, i don't see the need to DL the ultra-quality blu-ray versions when the HQ H264s or even the LQ XVIDs seem to do quite nicely for now...

would make for an ultimate fan collection piece though...

doesnt it matter that one of the hdtv cap is .jpg & the other is .png?

No. Don't mind formats. I made both very high quality screenshots. That .jpg is even bigger than .png. (for these pictures png is png, jpg is bmp (quality)). You can check in ACDSee program.
