  • ARTBOOK COLLECTION Thread

Okay guys, I know there is the "all encompassing" Bragging Thread. But, there are some types of merchandise in particular that have such a vast output, that maybe it requires a thread that can provide those seeking knowledge and information about such an item, the "artbook". There just are not enough artbook databases out there on the internet to provide substantial information. The reason why I say this is because being on the lookout for some artbooks to purchase, trying to find good information, as well as samples, were difficult to come by. Aside from maybe one or two websites that actually provided good content, the artbook reviews for these sites are usually handled by one or two individuals. Thus, it becomes quite a task to review and provide information for many artbooks.

Anyways, so the purpose of this thread is to provide information about old, new, and upcoming artbooks. It is also at the same time, a thread to share your artbook collections (whilst at the same time providing information and ratings, but is not 100 percent necessary).
    --------------------------------
I will also note that is of importance that you PROVIDE SAMPLES of the artbooks that you choose to write about, and you should also try to provide your OWN samples, although if you cannot then provide samples from elsewhere (but it is also important to make note of where you obtained those samples).

interesting thought. I may look at posting information about my artbooks if I can be bothered, that or assuming work doesn't kill me from working too much.

The Art Of World Of Warcraft

Ohhh Great thread! I love artbooks. To bad I only have one.
I wouldn't mind if you could link us to the two good sites that you've found.

The artbook I have is "The Art of World of Warcraft" http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
I have always loved the particular style and look of the warcraft univurse.
It contains both consepts scetches in greay scale and in colour. It also contains finnished artwork and 3D character from In game and the in game videos.

(note: The pictures arent Scans from the book. They are pictures I found from wows oficial homepage and from google searches. BUT they are pictures that exists in the book. Only most of them has been alittle re edited. Like given the wow logo or given a cool border to be used as a wallpaper.
But like I said: Ultimatly it is the same picture that can be found in the book)

The first 43 pages contais artwork and consepts of the 8 different playable races. Gnomes, Trolls, Orcs, humans, Night Elves, Taurens, Undead and Dwarves.
          Spoiler

Next comes the different monsters. Here you will find consepts of all sortsa monsters. Even of things that did not make it into the game or monsters that was radicly changed. Bog Beasts, Bears, Goblins, Dragons, Nagas, Silithids Underwater Turtles, Elementals, Murlocs and many more. Those are most in Grey scale but every second / third page a painted one comes up. All in all we have 54 pages of high quality monsters.

          Spoiler

Now we get to the envoierments. Here we can find LOTS of BIG coloured Pictures. We can find the haunted forests of silver pine. Blackrock mountains duskwood. But also lots of places not yet made it into the game like northrend conseps. The twisting nether, outland and more. Some in game pictures allso occur. The only bad thing is that some of the most beatutiful pictures spans over 2 pages which are flawed by the crack in the middle of the book. 42 pages.
          Spoiler

          Structures and Weapons:
Now we have Lots of black/white scetches of Towers, Castles, Bridges, wagons, traning facilities. Even if everything are just rough pencil scetches they have high quality. We have top views, Side views, 2D pics, 3D pics. Its insane to see the high level of detail every picture have. Everything from a small chest to masive bridges. And aditional funny thing is that every page is crammed with small notes from the artist of small scripted thing they want to happen when a player interacts with their structure or what different things are and their function. In this section we find allso some ingame 3D textures from some of the Melee weapons. 46 pages

          Spoiler

          http://www.worldofwconline.com/galle...ca17.sized.jpg
I could not hotlink this one... But its a boat

          Cinematics:
They have made a collage with pictures of the stunningly beautiful intro cinematic of the game. On the first page for example you see A tauren that spread golden seeds on the bluffs overlooking a vast greenland below. They have finnished frames from the movie but also Frames of the characters in the making. First the netlike versions of them. Then the gray Clay version and finarly the finnished texturised version. Room for consept scetches are also given. 8 pages.

          Spoiler

Watch it on Video google http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...warcraft+intro
The immage is pixxly and the sound is slightly off but it still is awsome.

The Tauren picture I talked about.

          Promotional:
Here we have the B-A UTIFUL finnished CG artworks that spread over 2 pages
The crack in the middle gets in the way as usual but that is just what you have to live with. The other parts of the book are ofcourse stuffed with Finnished CG artwork but then they are often overlapsed with another picture. It is neatly done but its still overlapsing. In the Promotional section the pictures wide and clean. Also those pictures are not consepts which gives them a certain benefit. The artist can spend more time on raising it awsomeness. On the Odii awsomeness scale
3 pics from corea are allso thrown in. 8 pages
          Spoiler

2 of the 3 corean pictures.

Last notes: I simply love this book. It is hard cover with 207 thick paper pages full with Professional art. All from small rough consept pictures of items to Big Landscapes. From in game textures to Finnished cinematic screenshots.
An artist named Samwise has made a few promotional pictures that is spread throughout the book. Why do I mention him? Watch his art and see for your selves.
The flaws on diamond are few. The crack in the middle of the book that cuts big pictures in two. The other thing is that sometimes the pictures have to top not bottom border. The picture ends at the bottom or the top of the pages sometimes. Those are small problems that do not really bring down the all over score.

I have to give it nine nekos out of ten.

I would gladly give it a 10 but there are the problems I recently mentioned and This is the only art book I have so I do not really know the univursal standards of artbooks. So I dont dare give it the big One O

If you like the warcraft univurse or WoW this is money well spent.

(not manga I know but it's an artbook non the less)

Hey GREAT INFORMATION and a VERY GOOD review Odii!

Other users that are going to post reviews and give information should try the best they can to follow a format similar to this (great information, explanations, and sample pictures).

Whats a Wiki? Do you mean similar to Wikipedia? If so then, yes. But, I thought having people just contribute to a thread would be easier. Also, this thread is also for DISCUSSION and recommendations, as well. With the Wiki, i do not think that would be possible, or as easy.

Good idea. I'll do some that I have. First off the bat, everyone's favourite H artist!!! Tony Taka!!

                          Featuring arts from
Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro and Genmukan

Picked this gem up from my trip to HK last year in October. Found it in a dingy little shop. Was in perfect condition and one looked at it I couldn't resist. I recognised Tony Taka's work straight away. Bought it and only later found out it was also a Hentai art book!! (Bonus!!! )

Note:Unfortunately I'm not willing to unbind it for scanning so I've taken photos with my 8.0MP DSLR and reduced the picture for internet instead.

138 pages with around 100 pages of colour prints. Soft cover and semiglossy pages.
This is the artbook for the game. Most of the pictures are accompany by their respective line art drawing. I won't post any of the H pictures up. And yes they are mosaic censored like in the games. Id say about 95% of the pictures in this book are H...
There are also illustrations for the game that he did.

The book is beautiful. Definately worth what ever I paid for it... Although I can't remember what I paid for it now... lol

Hmmm can't think of what else to say. If you guys got question ask away.

Anyway here's some more pictures taken from my EOS350D.

Hey ryolo, does the Tony artbook only have cg from the game, or actual lineart and illustration? Like, is the book mostly illustration or just stuff from the game that youve seen before (if one has played the game)?

Never played the game before unfortunately. The book is has pictures from the game and I believe illustration he did for the game as well. It also has lined drawings of the coloured versions in the book like in those shots I showed above.
