[AliceSoft][TRPG] Rance IX: The Helman Revolution [v2.00 out][2014/04/25]

RANCE IX IS NOW RELEASED!!!

This game takes place after the end of Rance Quest Magnum route, where Rance goes to Helman in search of a treasure that will supposedly release Sill from her frozen state which she suffered at the hands of the Demon King Little Princess during the events of Sengoku Rance. He there encounters Patton Misnarge, exiled prince of Helman and Rance's former comrade from Rance VI, who requests Rance to help in his rebellion to take back his country from the clutches of the traitors who banished him. Rance jumps the gun and takes charge of the rebel forces, this time aiming to bang Princess Siera Helman, plus any and all other cute girls that he may come across on his way to conquering Lang Baw, the Helman Capital!

AliceSoft have released a benchmarking tool (no gameplay no nothing, just 3D graphics display of several characters rendered by the engine) to let you people test if your machines can handle Rance IX. If your framerate is 22 or more in a given level of detail, you should be okay for that configuration. This benchmarking tool has also been TL'd in English by The Rance Translation Team.

Furthermore, it seems different codes are working/failing for different people, possibly depending on OS/ITH version... By "failing" I mean causing the game to crash at certain points where "ーー" characters (two successive prolongation marks) are used. Please try them all one by one to see which one works for you. The first one works in my personal experience using ITH 2.3 (2011.07.09) on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, but it doesn't for some.

One warning to be given to all is that this game contains optional netorare. In certain maps, if a main heroine (Kanami, Senhime etc.) is KO'd in battle, the player is allowed to view post-battle events corresponding to both cases - one where the heroine safely escapes from the captives, and the other where she is tortured, raped and likely mindbroken by the Helman captors, resulting in her bad end. The game, however, can be continued thereafter assuming the "good" escape route. But be mentally prepared for this possibility - it's upto to you to view these bad ends or skip them altogether by choosing "escape", but if you're aiming for 100% clearance, you'll likely need to view them.

Spam taunt with Patton all the time and keep healing HIM with Russian, so Rance and others don't attract too much attention. After that, everything Rance hits except the red boss is a one-shotter, and keep softening others up with Shizuka and the other sorcerer. That's the tactic I always use.

Also is it me or Rance has a significantly high success rate when upgrading weapons? Though the results are apparently pre-determined.

People in 2ch were testing around and discovered that by the 1000th upgrade, all characters will have 384 up. So if you're having high success rate with a character now it just means some point later you're going to have a low one.

Quite loved the defense battle, there's quite a variety of tactics you can employ to win, especially if you use different characters. I'm not really sure how the taunt on Patton works as enemies would still do things besides attack him, I personally did the entire thing with just Patton, Rance, Shizuka and Maria and taking advantage of the walls and grappler to control space you can easily clear the enemy entirely.

One thing I'm curious about though, is why is Shizuka even with Rance this time, over the last two games she seems to have made it quite clear she wants nothing to do with him and only went along with it, but now she's apparently along for the ride from the get-go. I'm assuming she's just there to go along with Maria though (as usual)

Also isn't that blue-haired mage guy the ex-fiance of Magic?

Well given that Nagi is involved this time around that may have something to do with Shizuka's involvement. She also enjoys the fact that Rance's semen has level-cap raising properties as of Rance Quest if I'm not mistaken, though she acquires it without H if she can. Also Magic's ex-fiance was Alex Vals who has brown hair.

Ah true, I guess the uniform threw me off a bit.

So what does Rance's special skill do (the button to the left of his Rance Attack), Mages seem to shield themselves, Guards have a taunt, Maria seems to enter some kind of prep state where she shoots an enemy that moves in her range and Rance appears to charge his special or something?

Make you next attack deal 1.5x of your damage and it work with Rance attack.

That's an information that was given on the Alicesoft blog post about Shizuka History, but also on the Shizuka/Maria/Nagi description on the Rance 9 website (if I remember correctly). But in any case, as it should be explained during the game too, I will use spoilers tags:
