Ideas for the Notification System!

I think the notifications system needs some changing, it's not really that helpful.
I think new stuff should be added to make surfing through this site waay easier.
I have been frequenting another forum(Animesociety),
There they really have a neat notifications system which can be implemented here.

The ability to follow threads, instantly or when online or daily or weekly.
I hope you guys consider my suggestions and implement them, these additions could really make surfing through Hongfire a breeze.

I would like to see a notification when someone replies to your post in any thread. Other than that I'm gonna try how notifications work when you subscribe to a thread.

Yes, after 10 years I never subscribed to any thread and always checked things looking for them.

I really like the idea that if someone quotes our text or mentions our usernames then we'd see a notification and not miss out on a discussion. The second idea sounds a little less useful but I imagine some people might find it helpful when they're offline for awhile. I wouldn't use it personally but maybe in Hentai sections with the faster threads it would be worthwhile.

Also keep in mind that change can be a little slow at times since it has only been six years that we've had notifications for Visitor messages(since that didn't exist) and it has only been two years(I think?) that we receive notifications for reputation changes, which in my opinion were definitely needed for the forum.

Only the site owner (in this case HongFire) can do this as he's the one who has the forum software. Maybe other admins can help but only HongFire can change how the system works.

As for moderators, they can't do anything about this. This ain't their job in the first place.

I'm certain the second item you suggested is more related to having an email sent when somebody posts in a specific thread which if someone doesn't know that they have it on will increase the number of unsolicited spam reports.

The images look some what like VBulleting as well. I can't find the website so not sure how it looks.

About your first idea.

the 'user' replied to the thread notification is the same as what you see in settings > Subscribed Threads with New Posts. The threads with the latest replies are at the top.

However because the new implementation was too shiny and there where too much unnecesarry items to collect. Users complained it was bascially too much goody stuff. So it was disabled.

The idea is and has always been to make the HongFire website as clean and fast as possible. Granted the ads are there but that is beyond our control.

Well it does seem a good idea. I think ASF has that but to be honest its really annoying because I feel like the notification system spams me with useless reports. So if this option is implemented on hongfire at least give us users (that don't want it) to turn it off. I only sub threads that are important for me to get involved in its discussions.

No the second idea is about letting choose how frequently we get notified about that thread though the first one would be a really nice implementation.
Any quote to one of your posts or mention to you(@OppaiTaisho) will get notified.
