After what I have experienced with a configuration like that now the new server should be able to even handle up to 10,000 users at the same time without reaching the total limits of CPU or RAM. So there´s enough space left.

I think that it is very high-performance hardware.
However, it is necessary for the software to be customized adequately.
- WEB server(Apatch?), RDBMS(MySQL) etc.

Let the leeches download. If it pays for the site and allows the rest of us to have the privilege of not dealing with the ads, I'm entirely for it. And forcing folks to register, not to mention post, really isn't all that appealing an idea to me. The problems HongFire mentioned are quite significant and there isn't anything to gain from it except a bigger member count, which doesn't really do anything for anybody. And I quite like the idea that I can disappear for some long period, should circumstances require it, and come back to find my account still waiting for me. Quite a few old timers have returned to the community after long absenses. Current policy is best for the community we have. No need to fix what ain't broke.

apache can handle much more then that depend on how u optimize it and server Hardware !
