Trying to gain weight

I'm 5'1, 87lbs (40kg). I'm tiny. I want to gain some weight, but I'm unsure how. I've tried gorging myself, and I'll only gain a little bit and then lose it as soon as I can't keep up eating that much.

I've tried working out, and had some success. I've gained 3lbs (1kg) in 4 months and managed to keep the weight on.

I'm trying to get some advice as to how to gain some weight and keep it. My goal is 95lbs (43kg). I don't want to gorge myself because I just can't eat all that much.

I have the following questions:

Are there any foods that I can eat to get the most out of my work out in order to gain weight?

Is there any particular order to work out in order to work the muscle groups I want and have the maximum effect on it?

What kind of exercises will work my legs? and my arms? and my bum?

What machines at the gym will be best to work on the above body parts?

How can I work out and gain some muscle tone and not look like a man?

Is there any way to gain fat and retain it?

Only problem with gaining fat is my boobs always get bigger and nothing else. It kind of is a problem.

I really have no idea...sorry. But have you tried talking to your doctor? Or a nutritionist? They could probably tell you a safe and effective way to do this...

Gaining weight...

Really, the easiest way to gain weight is to eat a load of junkfood and then sit around and be lazy for a few years. It works for most people.

If you want to gain effective weight try eating a ton of protein and working out. It's not hard people.

As for exercises to gain weight, try low reps with high resistance, say 5x8 of like... 75%-80% of your one rep max. Squats are good, bench press, dead lift... stuff like that. Keep it in the 8-12 rep range for maximum weight gain.

Of course, I don't do weights so I'm just parroting.

diet wise i can't give u much insight since i concentrated on maintaining or losing weight (which did happen to me by cutting sugary stuff out of my diet eating only twice a day and not snacking)

but if u want to gain mass (as in muscle) do weights like Troll was saying but reduce the time u do cardio and aerobics... esp jogging and running for long distances... these exersice cut mass very quickly and if u r trying to buff up then u need to stay off those and hit the weights... taking some protein supplements might be an option worth considering... (my supervisor in uni has bigger biceps than me O_O, and she is a power lifter)

as for the area u are gaining mass in... well remember the aerobics and jogging??

eat alot of milkduds. i lived off of the stuff for about 3 months. well that and dew. but honestly they sell a mix at some nutrition stores that help with this. my friend amy tried it and gained about 11 punds in 4 months. it is more healthy then the junk food idea.

I've tried the junk food route and being lazy. I gained nothing out of it. i actually lost a lb.

anyway protein is sure way.
or you could always live at McDonalds... '_^)

but....i actually know someone who gained a few kg by drinking soda like Coke etc. rather than water...

You want to be healthy, and a bit heavier, no?
That means less fat, more muscle... But, I think most girls want bigger boobs (Yes, I've talked to some of my girl friends about this before)

I don't suggest high weights with low repititions. I think you should go endurance instead. Pick a good weight to work out with. Dumbbells, maybe use 5 pounds, and lift them 20 times with each arm. Then do pushdowns (I'm sure you can ask some people at the local gym). Run, alot. It will burn fat around your stomach and legs. That's where most of the fat is anyway (on a man... I'm not sure if you lose fat, you might lose your boobs....). Okay, eat healthy, like carbs and protein, then work it out. Carbs = energy. Protein = building muscle. Many people don't know this, but muscle weighs alot more than fat does. So being lazy and eating Mickey D's all day will actually make you lose muscle, and gain fat. That's extremely unhealthy. And that's why you actually lost weight before.

You want a well-toned body, with less fat. So basically, lift low weights lots of times, then run. The heart is a muscle you really want to train...
